Venice is a city of magic. It is an exquisitely graceful port that has inspired artists in every medium and been home to generations of Venetians who effortlessly live and breath its cultural splendor. This impossibly beautiful city of water has earned Venice its reputation as both "La serenissima repubblica di Venezia" - the Most Serene Republic of Venice - and as a lively commercial center for specialty regional crafts. First settled millennia ago, the region officially became home to the first Venetians when the Roman Emperor Augustus declared it "Venetia" in recognition of its unique culture.

Today, the city's dreamlike blend of overlapping architectural styles attests to Venetians' pride in their city's rich history. With breathtaking full-color photographs and a text that will both inform and enchant, Venice lets you float along the canals of this timeless place and glimpse what life is like in this majestic city.

The stars are for the photos and the writing was blah and boring and not relative to the photos which were beautiful.

This was a pretty good book about Venice. The beginning is a review of Venice's history and the latter part is full of photos. Not exceptional, but for me worth checking out at the library.
