Gorgeous illustrations bring this classic lullaby from the American South to life detailing the vibrant realm between sleep and waking as a young boy dreams of may-colored horses, cake, and a lost lamb that finds its mother.
I'm a new convert to these illustrated lullabies. I usually find I know the first line of every verse, but not enough to sing the actual song. Reading it in a story with illustrations is a great way to introduce the lullaby to my son, and it's much more memorable for me than just looking up the lyrics online.
This lullaby book is beautifully and whimsically illustrated, and even includes a little history of the song at the front of the book. It's shorter than the type of book my son prefers these days, but it's able to hold his attention.
A favorite lullabies of mine, this beautifully illustrated book is a wonderful bedtime story for sleepy babies. The cool blues of the watercolors encourage a baby to sooth themselves and settle down for the night.
