This irresistible rhyming read-aloud story-acted out by a cast of one-of-a-kind bugs-is the perfect countdown-to-bedtime book. Donald Saaf's quirky style is sure to get a giggle, while Elizabeth Provost's rhythmic text makes it easy for children to count along as all ten sleepy bugs drift off to sleep.
'Ten Little Sleepyheads' is a sweet little book ideal in supporting maths in the EYFS. The book is about 10 different bugs that are all a bit sleepy. Each time they participate in an activity another bug falls to sleep until just one is left awake. At this point there is a slight twist in the story as the last bug does not fall asleep but suggests to the reader that they start from the beginning again!
A good book for ordering numbers 1-10 backward. Also good for understanding/practising the idea of one less.
Sweetly illustrated with soft lines.
The rhyme carries it along at a brisk pace and also makes it memorable.
This book is adorable and easy to read. I enjoyed how the book started at ten and counted down to one. On each page a little sleepyhead would fall asleep doing something, which would make the total of the sleepyheads awake one less. The story line was a creative way for children to count down instead of counting up. The number of sleepyheads that the story was on was big and bold, along with the pictures on every page; the sleepyhead that fell asleep was noticeable. I think children would enjoy this story and they would be able to point out the sleepyheads on each page.
This is a good counting and bed time book. I enjoyed the different art style as well as the rhyming words. The story is quick, but still has a lot in the pictures to see.
