When three young farmworkers die suddenly of a brain disease, the Medical Research Council feels compelled to investigate. Dr Ian Bannerman, consultant pathologist and expert on brain disease, is sent to make discreet enquiries. But in north-east Scotland, Bannerman finds plenty of cause for alarm - and terror. He discovers a brainless corpse in an Edinburgh morgue; a dead man at the foot of a Hebridean cliff; suspicious local farmers; threats from the nearby nuclear power station - and more horrifying evidence of the disease. But what is the cause? A deadly virus that has crossed the species barrier - or a murderous conspiracy of men?Either way, human life is increasingly under threat. This was my first Ken McClure book and I chose it as the author had been recommended to me and this book was available as a free download. The story was plausible, gripping and thought-provoking. There were a few typos but nowhere near as bad as some that I've seen and this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and have already started on my next Ken McClure book!
This is one of the best books I've read by McClure. I'd actually recommend it as a starting point for getting into his work. Imagine that mad cow disease or other such illnesses were able to transfer to humans. This book looks at what could possibly cause it. Fun and quick read.
I have never given Ken McClure's books anything less than 5 stars. This is the second time I have read this and enjoyed it as much as the first Unputdownable from the beginning to the end with thrills and spills Move over Robin Cooke...Mr McClure has surpassed
Zaista.... PREOKRET. Neki delovi su izuzetno zanimljivi, ali onda ponovo preovladava monotonost. Doduse, opisi su izuztno detaljni i podrobni, sto je u nekim delovima veliki dodatak, a nekad i gubi na zainteresovanosti.
Its years since I read a Ken McClure book, I love medical dramas and Ken McClure does them so well. Great characters and keeps you guessing from start till finish.
I enjoyed the concept, as I'm a fan of medical thrillers, but this book really needs some proof reading - I've never heard of a 'dear sky', and it kept taking me out of the book to work out what the word should be, so I knocked a star off for that.
I think I'd have to see if others had similar errors before reading.
Interesting mystery thriller with the BSE/nvCJD crisis informing it. Shows the different ways in which scientists and politicians deal with risk management.
I'm really enjoying all the medical thrillers I've found. Didn't realize there were several authors writing medical. Crisis is food for thought, eeuu. Good one. Recommend
