John Wellington "Jack" Kent (1920 – 1985) was an American cartoonist and prolific author-illustrator of children's books. He is perhaps best known as the creator of the comic strip King Aroo. In addition to his own books, he illustrated more than twenty books by other authors.
One rainy day, Jim Jimmy James begins to fool around with his reflection in the mirror on his closet door. His reflection does everything he does. Until . . . it doesn't. Jim Jimmy James opens the closet only to meet James Jimmy Jim, his reflection. He finds out that James Jimmy Jim leaves the mirror when Jim Jimmy James is not in front of it, and that, though James Jimmy Jim can be an adequate playmate, he can only do what Jim Jimmy James does.
So, follow-the-leader it is!
This is another winner by Jack Kent, though I did feel sort of sorry for James Jimmy Jim.
This is a fun little story about a young boy who finds an unusual way to entertain himself on a rainy day. The narrative is short and the illustrations are colorful and cartoonish. Often several pictures are included on one page, with white space as a background. Overall, it's an entertaining tale and we enjoyed reading it together.
