A single dad finds love with his daughter’s protector in this emotional story from New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne
When a beautiful stranger saves the life of Jack Dugan’s daughter, Jack knows he has to find this mystery woman. He’ll do anything to repay her. But Grace Solarez turns out to be more than he expected, for her sad brown eyes tell him she needs to be saved, too.
Until the night she saved Jack’s little girl, Grace felt she had no hope. Soon, Grace begins to care about something again—about the sexy single dad and his daughter. But will it all disappear when she finds out the truth about Jack Dugan?
I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.
Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.
After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.
Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.
I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.
I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.
Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

Oh this was just such a wonderful read. When the book opens we see our heroine who is so at the end of her rope thinking of ending her life but when she witnesses an accident, her cop instinct make her rescue a little girl, injuring her in the process. Our hero the girl's father finds the injured heroine days later in the dump of her apartment. When the heroine's eleven-year-old daughter was killed in a drive-by shooting a year back the heroine went to pieces, resigning from the force, shutting everyone out, leasing out her house to live in a dump. She doesn't want to be saved, or be happy. The hero tracks her down to thank her and figure out if she was involved in his daughter's kidnapping. He takes her to his house to recuperate where every time she looks at his daughter she flinches from the pain of her memories. She recuperates physically but not emotionally at his place. When she receives a call from her ex-partner that the hero could be involved in arms smuggling through his company she agrees to the hero's proposal to stay on to be a security consultant. These two gradually grow closer with the hero helping her heal by asking her about her daughter, and just listening. Both of them were similar in the extent that they didn't have the most secure childhood and the love for their kids. I liked seeing these two grow closer developing an unmistakable bond. This was such a heart-wrenching read sometimes touching on a parent's loss. An amazing read!
Grace’s daughter was shot down in a drive by. She has lost her job and her will to live and is about to kill herself when she ends up rescuing a child fr9m a burning car. When her father tracks down grace, he takes her home to heal her wounds...
I am normally a huge RaeAnne Thayne fan. This book didn't do it for me. The heroine was not likeable at all. The hero forgave way to quickly. It was predictable. So disappointed.
Good read to take your mind away. The main characters can be real people. Grief has taken over Grace’s life. She is given a chance to heal and love again. Jack, Emma and Lily bring Grace back to enjoy life and love.
In the deepest of her despair, Grace rescued a child who had been kidnapped, risking her own life to do so. This is the beginning of another wonderful, believable story by RaeAnne Thayne with a surprising climax and satisfying conclusion.
I’ve read many books by RaeAnne and I’ve really enjoyed them, but this is one of her earlier books and wasn’t her usual clean read. I wish books came with ratings like movies.
