I came across this book in a bookstore in Rostov-na-Donu. Right in the middle of Russia. De Donder discusses whether Troy might have been fact, in stead of pure fiction. Based on historical, but circumstantial evidence and actual excavations in what is now Turkey, it is proven, beyond reasonable doubt, that Troy is not just a story, but that the city actually existed and that the battle, described in Homer's Iliad, did take place, more than 3000 years ago.
written by a journalist, this is hardly an erudite book, but next to the usual Illiad/Schliemann chapters it discusses the various views on the story of Troy from the Middle Ages to "Where Troy Once Stood".
