There's a little bit of science stuff at the beginning of the book, but it's only a few pages and can be skipped if you're not interested.
This book walks you through everything in such an easy to understand way, has a multitude of photos, breaks it all down to what you really need and how to keep it as cheap as possible.
I already knew most of what was in here, and I still found it useful for some fun techniques he shows.
I checked out 4 books on the subject, and while I've only skimmed the others at this point, I can absolutely say this is the one that will have held my attention through the entire book.
Keep in mind this is not a comprehensive book. It's the perfect book for getting started that includes lots of techniques for making unique paper.
A solid guide to basic papermaking! Very easy, as it says, and richly illustrated. Once you get past the geeky stuff in the front ("here's what an cross-section of a page of the Chicago phone book looks like at 10^18 magnification! here's what it looks like at 10^50 magnification!"), it's rather an enjoyable and easy book to read.
