When it comes to dragon books there are not really much that one can wish for since they are either really modern, really bad or really good but almost nowhere else in the standing. Most books based on dragons are on either just the European version(s) and others are just on the Chinese dragon so when you try to juggle all the information for children there is usually a lot of lacking information.

This beautiful book, though, is the perfect juggling of dragon lore while being given in a simple format that doesn't overwhelm very young readers. And for those who don't care for modern dragons there is no mention of the Potterhead dragons thus the older information is provided to the reader about not only the European dragon but the Chinese lung and even the Mexican flying serpent.

The flaps aren't used as just another distraction to get kids minds off of being bored but also enhance the story by either adding action to the characters such as having them open an eye, swish their tails around and let sheep escape while at other times it allows the reader to find even more information.

Although the dragons aren't presented in realistic looking formats or even the dragon variations aren't explored the illustrations are fun and colorful enough to catch the eye. The dragons are given personalities that although you don't know exactly them as characters they are unique enough to make an impression.

All in all this is a great book and one that will have children loving the beautiful glory of the dragon without finding them all as monsters. So find the beginnings of Merlin, explore the luck of the Chinese and the treasure-hoarding power of fire versus frozen with the gentle field mouse to help direct your way.

I'm really ticked off right now. It's not the books fault but I have to rant for a bit. People - if you take books out of the library take care of them. I understand accidents happen but for real, watch your children. If you know your kids a brat, likes to destroy things, etc, don't leave them alone with a library book. Go spend your money on a book and let him or her destroy that.
These libraries do not have unlimited funds. And then people like myself and my daughter, who do take extremely good care of items that aren't ours (as well as those that are) have to read this. (Feel free to conjure up an 'ick face' here for effect.)
This is supposed to be a lift-the-flap book. The problem? There are barely any flaps to lift. The few that remain are taped on. Pages are ripped. Pages are scribbled on. This actually should be in a garbage can and I'm furious. If one child did this then he needs... I'm going to shut up about what he needs but he needs something.
Parents need to watch their children better. How dare someone let their child destroy something they don't even own. And then have the nerve to return it! And what kind of child does this? It wasn't done on accident, it was done knowingly and that much is obvious.
I feel a little better. I guess. On to the book. I'll review this as if it was a regular book because it deserves that much.
Th Usborne books are almost always pretty fantastic. The lift-the-flaps by Usborne are alwaysawesome from what we've seen so far. Julia loves them all and as soon as I se one I grab it. I think this is the first "fictional" one that we've read although we've read about farm animals, baby animals, etc.
This is just what you'd expect if you've read any of the others. Lots of flaps to lift (keep your fingers crossed if you get the library book), lots of different dragons, great little bits of text under the flaps that my daughter always enjoys. There's even a little mini-story inside the story. I love it. Julia loves it. Any lift-the-flap or dragon lover will love it!

sukaa, ilustrasinya, naganya warna-warni; ungu, kuning, merah muda, biruu muda:) gambar latarnya dongeng bangeeet dengan warna-warni yang lembut :D
sukaa banget sama sejenis flip-flap book.

The illustrations are beautiful, and the flaps-to-lift are a nice touch. I also appreciated that there are dragons from China and South America, not just the European versions.
