In the following excerpt, author Janina Renée describes the Thirteen Moons spread, which offers you an overview of the coming year. It is a wonderful spread to try on your birthday, on New Year's Eve, or any other special day.

Thirteen Moons Spread

Lay out thirteen cards, with the intention that each card will represent one of the year's full moons. A full moon represents the culmination or fulfillment of some matter, so you would get out your calendar, find the date of each full moon, and interpret the corresponding cards as representing things that will have materialized or influences that will be strongly felt around those particular dates. Because of the way that the thirteen moons of the year are squeezed into our twelve-month solar calendar, in most years there is one month that will contain two full moons (but it is a different month each year). The second full moon of that month is sometimes referred to as the "blue moon." Take note of which of your thirteen cards represents that blue moon, because it might have a special, magical quality to it. An additional advantage of using this spread is that it helps you become more aware of the lunar cycles.

Nonostante il titolo, il libro è rivolto a tutti e non solo ai giovani; sì, frammezzate al testo vi sono parti dedicate ai teen-ager, ma è un libro universale, ancora una volta di sicuro aiuto, scritto nello stile felice e accogliente tipico dell’autrice e con qualche chicca antropologica qua e là.
E la carta spessa sulla quale è stampato il libro è un altro punto a favore.

Well, blast. I made the mistake of looking for a different edition before saving my review, and lost it! May have to go back to writing these in a Word file first.

This is a great beginner's book, especially for younger people. It may feel too family-friendly for some adults, but it's packed with information any serious tarot reader would want, as well as a gentle entry into the field of study.

The greatest strength of the book is its in-depth interpretations of each card, including sub-headings suggested by each card's theme. (IE Two of Wands has Choices, Lifestyle, Relationships, and Success.) Each card has at least one line on reversals in each sub-heading.

There's a glossary, and appendixes for color, significators, and footnotes.

Of all the books I've seen on Tarot over the last couple of decades, this one is really one of the clearest and most practical I've ever read. It's full of practical card meanings and examples of how they might apply in every day life instead of being a mashup of incongruent belief-systems from some self-proclaimed new age guru that has no idea how to actually do a reading. Renee's book is a good starting point if you've never read tarot before, but remember this: at some point you have to go beyond the "meanings" and learn what's really behind the cards. When that happens you'll really be able to read them (or anything else you choose to read for that matter).

a little too 'new age poofy' for my taste. very positive attitudes by the author though. happy happy joy joy. each card translation is broken down by areas of life and how the card applies to that area. if you're still convinced tarot might be bad or taboo and you'd like to stay on the lighter side maybe this is the book for you. very family oriented.

This is a great Tarot book that is targeted to a young adult audience, but contains beautiful insights from psychological and intersectional perspectives, taking into account larger societal issues and systems of power (imbalance) in the modern world. This book is a great reference for Tarot readers of all ages and for those learning the Tarot for the first time.

This is the best general purpose beginner's tarot book, bar none. I use this as the text for all my beginning tarot classes. I don't mind at all that it is geared to teens, and my adult students don't mind either. It is clear, simple, and direct.

For me it was too new-age, but I got it for my daughter and she loved it! She was able to understand it better than me, and it helped her with reading the cards.
