When their aunt and uncle's cat disappears while they are supposed to be taking care of it, three young sisters frantically look for it and get quite a surprise
Maj Lindman (Mrs. Maj Lindman-Hulten) lived in Stockholm, Sweden. She attended the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm, and also studied art in Paris, France. She wrote and illustrated numerous children's books, but she is best known for her delightful tales of triplet girls Flicka, Dicka and Ricka and their boy counterparts, Snipp, Snapp and Snurr.
The girls have another sweet, wholesome, and innocent adventure and learn that helpfulness and responsibility go hand in hand. And who doesn’t enjoy a story with cute kittens?!
First published over fifty years ago, this story remains true to its original form and is presented in an old world, simple and sweet story. Three little sisters (they look to be identical triplets) lovingly mind their aunt and uncle's cat while they're away. A barking dog sends the cat out of the house and up a tree, and the little girls desperately try to find Mitzi the cat. Illustrations are sweetly retro and will be enjoyed by today's kids as much as they were fifty years ago. A story with an integral theme is timeless and ageless, which is why this story will appeal to little ones today as much as it did back in the l940s.
I originally read this book at my mom’s home town library where she grew up. She had also read the Flicka books when she was young. They are timeless. A little dated, but classic, these books encourage love, generosity, honesty, helpfulness, and responsibility.
Each of these follows the same basic premise - Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka have a job to do, get into trouble, and end up making things right. Still, they're fun reads that teach kids a quick little lesson.
I found this on Libby!! So excited to see that they had something from Maj Lindman. My girls loved these books. We have a couple. The funniest part is when the little girls climb onto the roof of a house to talk to a chimney sweep!!
Picture book. A favorite childhood series. When the girls are tasked with caring for their aunt and uncle's cat, they loose her — only to find her again, with three brand-new kittens!
I remember reading this adorable book with its lookalike Swedish sisters when I was very young, and I'm thrilled to see it available for today's young readers. In this particular story, Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka volunteer to take care of Mitzi, a cat belonging to their aunt and uncle. They do a good job making sure she is fed and given lots of attention, but she escapes through the door and up a tree when a dog's barking frightens her. The girls are quite upset and look everywhere for the cat, but they can't find her. When their relatives return home, though, there is a furry surprise waiting inside their home. This is a sweet story filled with adorable animals and handsome illustrations and a happy ending.

The triplets are left in charge of feeding a cat. The cat gets lost, but luckily for the girls, the cat is found again - along with three little kittens!
I ADORED this book as a young child. I checked it out over and over again because I loved the idea of feeding the cat big flat fish and bowls of milk. I think this is one of the first books I ever read on my own and Mom says it was before I was in school, so I would have been about 4 years old. I think it would be age appropriate for someone in first or second grade. The words are large, but there are a lot of them, and some would probably need to be translated.
The original illustrations are still wonderful. :)
My inner child is telling me to rate this higher, but I just can't. It's cute, but that's all it is. Well, and a bit educational, as learn about the existence of chimney sweeps and dairies. --- Turns out that it's not at all memorable, either. I saw it on display at OKC library and grabbed it. Only to discover now, *after* reading it, that I had done so before. But how interesting that the library purchased this in Oct 2020. Must've been a patron request. I'll see if they have more by Lindman, though.
A cute story where the girls are asked to take care of their Aunt and Uncle's cat while they are away. The cat climbs a tree and won't come down and then becomes lost to the girls. They search and search because they know they are responsible to keep the cat safe. A happy ending!
As a child, I loved this series of books about the Swedish triplets. I bought a copy recently to keep. It's soft-cover and smaller format, printed in China - not like the larger hard-cover books I remember borrowing from the library as a youngster.
This is my favorite Flicka, Ricka, Dicka book! I absolutely love the illustrations and the kittens are adorable. The story is simple making it perfect for new readers to challenge them.
