Friends in the City #1

The Billionaire's Fake Fiance

Rate this book
I pretended to be the girlfriend of one of the richest men in New York City.
It was only meant to be the one time. I mean it was the week before Christmas, I was shopping with my best friend and we were hungry and wanted to dine at the new swanky restaurant on the upper west side.
For some reason the hostess misheard me when I mentioned Max Parker’s name. I’d been complaining that he was the reason why I’d lost my job. Who was I to correct her when it meant that “my relationship” had caused a table to suddenly open up?
And then the next week I accidentally let it slip that Max Parker was my boyfriend to get into an exclusive club. And then there was the time when I saw that Chanel handbag and Prada shoes. I mean, it didn’t really hurt anyone, did it? It was just a little white lie.
How was I to know that my fake boyfriend would find out that I’d been using his name? Now he’s blackmailing me into playing his fake fiancé in an arrangement that could only be classed as risqué. Turns out if I want to keep my bookstore open, I’m going to have to play along with his game. Only he’s going to have to go along with the rules in my dating handbook and while he smirks at that idea he doesn’t know that I’ve got a plan of my own.

Swoon Worthy Read...

Charlotte was laid off from her job and she was furious. The "jerk" Billionaire brought the company she worked for and fired everyone without notice. What was she going to do? She's living on her own in an expensive city and the bills were due soon....

Well, while out with her friends she began to vent about Billionaire Max and someone overheard and assumed things and she didn't deny it and it begins....

Max was forward, sexy and had quite a sense of humor about everything that had happened. But little did Charlotte know, he had his reasons...

I loved their back and forth banter. I swear the emails had me dying laughing. It was hilarious and hot as hell at the same time.

The twist had me like 😮... I knew there was a connection but seeing the pieces fall in place was heartbreaking. It gave me a better understanding of where Max was coming from and the pain of Charlotte's past. Also, it showed how Max really felt about Charlotte.

I also loved her friends Emily and Anabel, they were supportive and funny and loyal. They were the best... Their group text were the best thing ever! I loved it, so freaking funny.

This was a quick read... I was really into it and was kinda sad to see it end. I enjoyed Max and Charlotte's characters very much. I can't wait to read more about Emily and Anabel. That's going to be Awesome!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC copy of this book .

This is a the first part of a series that starts with The Billionaire's fake Fiancée, second is About Last Night and the concluder When We Were Us.
It deals with three since college best friends Charlotte, Emily and Anabel and their romances.

It was disappointing and lack both continuity and cohesion.
Lots of missing words, spelling and grammar and lack of a straight line between the three books.

The three girls came off as spoilt and rather stupid for so called educated ladies.
Quite a change in character and plot between books 2 and 3 with Matteo.
Others have made similar comments.

My review goes for the series.

Charlotte is a young professional just starting out in the world of graphic design. Working for a company that has been bought out and then fired has her world spinning out of control. Wondering how she will pay her rent and continue to live on her own she turns to her friends and shopping for support. As Charlotte complains about Max Parker and how his company has destroyed her life, Charlotte is misheard and realizes that spinning a simple white lie has people bending over backward to help her because they think that Charlotte is Max's girlfriend. Things spin out of control when Max Parker confronts Charlotte about the lies but instead of asking her to simply stop, he asks her to become his fake fiance. Charlotte agrees but with a contract and a list of do's and dont's.

Teasing, heat, sexual chemistry make this a must-read!

J.S. Cooper has written another page-turning, fun, smile-worthy book!

This book ended up as a 50/50 split for me. Originally, I was intrigued by the blurb. I thought the plot sounded fun and I was excited to read it. After I finished reading this book though I was left with mixed feelings. I still think the concept behind this book was a great one. I just feel it fumbled on the way to success. What could have been a enjoyable meet-cute, innocent mistake plot device turned into avarice and selfishness. I found this particularly offensive considering the grudge Charlotte held against Max. This totally ruined the character of Charlotte for me. Max was OK, but I did not love him. There are some funny moments and clever banter to be enjoyed but for me this was much more of a loss than a win. This is my candid review that I am freely choosing to post.

I wanted to like this book I really did. But the female lead is so cringeworthy that I could make it past 30%. She’s a pathological liar,a spoiled, lazy, good time party girl and brat. You don’t want her to find love, you want her to get her comeuppance. Even when she gets caught in her lies she just continually makes a fool of herself. She made this an impossible read.

This was a great romance. Charlotte and Max were so cute together and their chemistry was explosive. The story has lots of surprises and some twists. She lost her job when he purchased the company she worked for and she was furious with him. A little white lie brought them together and she ended up being his fake fiance. Charlotte was hysterical at times and her antics kept me smiling. It was so easy to read this book in one sitting and it was hard to put down once I started. Their back and forth banter was amusing and their emails, steamy. There was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. A great book that will well written with strong, well-developed and likable characters. I was fortunate to have an advance reader copy and voluntarily chose to review.

Sexy and hilarious!

This isn't your typical "fake fiance" trope. Not by a longshot! It doesn't have the dramatic angst I've come to expect at least. Char and Max are so freaking funny!
Charlotte's little fibs get way out of hand, and the circumstances of her actions put her in quite the awkward position. She hates Max! He's the reason she lost her job. So, why not use his name to get a few perks, right? Oops! One too many times and everything catches up to her, even after her friends warn her to stop.
This sexy and hilarious romp had me laughing out loud! The emails back and forth. #Dead! And the twist! Very well done!
I highly recommend reading this book! You won't be disappointed.

Excellent Dialogue With Evocative Repartee.

One of the greatest romance stories I have ever read. Breath-taking, sensual scenes, with evocative repartee between the main male and main female characters. Excellent dialogue. Wonderful camaraderie between friends. Some pathos as well that had crying but as in real life, from the cark came the light and bright. An original, easy to read story that flows along so smoothly that are done reading the book before you know it.

Highly Recommended!

In one clean swoop Charlotte loses her job due to billionaire Max Parker buying the company she works for and closing it down. Charlotte goes out with friends and while she is cursing Max Parker, she finds herself being tied to him and getting a table at a popular restaurant. The little fib that she is his girlfriend though gets her a few more perks and even though she knows it is wrong, she feels he owes her. That is until Max shows up and decides she can continue pretending, what she doesn't know though is that he has a secret that could change everything.

I liked this, it was funny in spots. I thought that there were some aspects of story that was not quite explained and left a couple of questions for me.

This is a quick paced read, likable characters and a story that kept me entertained. I enjoy a story that will keep me on my toes and this did that well. Charlotte is fiery and sweet while Max is a bit of a mystery. There's definitely a chemistry. Add this to your TBR list.

This book was ok. It interested me enough to order the next book and mark the final book to-read. At first I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to like Max or not. His character was inconsistent. I liked how honest she was. The twists were obvious. It was a fine book to read while floating in the pool for the day.

At first I thought I was gonna skip this book, because the writing felt forced and Charlotte seemed immature.
But then we got to meet Max and the banter and mails made it very funny.

The plot was actually very see through and I'm very oblivious to all.

It was fast paced and actually a fun fast read that I did enjoy!

Max And Charlotte’s Story Is A Zany Over-The-Top Quick Read That Will Have You Laughing Out Loud!

This is the first book in the Alpha Boyfriends series about three best friends who meet during freshman year at Columbia University in New York. Charlotte, Emily, and Anabel, all twenty-five now, are young and single in New York City. Book one is Charlotte and Max’s story. Emily’s story follows in book two. In it she has a one night stand with Liam Montgomery, but things get awkward afterward. In book three, Anabel’s secret lost love is finally revealed when Luca reappears in her life.

Charlotte Johnson, twenty-five, has just lost her job thanks to Max Parker, the CEO of Parker Corporation. Her company had been bought out by his. The employees had been promised jobs once the deal was complete, but that was a lie. Charlotte now has thirty days to get a paycheck or she will have to pack up and move back to her parents’ home in Florida. She loves her life in New York and doesn’t want to leave her best friends Emily and Anabel. And although she loves her parents, she hasn’t been back in years. Brandon had left her and she still cannot face the memories back home. Bottom line: she hates Max Parker for putting her in this position.

When Anabel takes her and Emily out to lunch at a new hotspot, Charlotte takes the opportunity to rip into him again while they wait in line. But in a mix-up she is taken for Max Parker’s girlfriend and ushered to a table. Soon the news spreads, and before she knows it a seemingly harmless lie turns into an angry email from Max Parker himself.

Max Parker, thirty, made his fortune buying and restructuring companies. He is a Harvard Business School grad, but he credits his time in the military for helping him work through some issues and making him who is today. When he learns that Charlotte Johnson has been claiming to be his girlfriend, he can’t help but be curious. And when he meets her, he can’t help but kiss her. And propose that she be his fake fiancée.

Max and Charlotte’s story is a zany over-the-top quick read that will have you laughing and out loud. The couple has incredible chemistry and fantastic banter. Charlotte is sweet yet bold, while Max has layers hidden beneath his tough façade. It all pulls together in the end with a few tears and a happy ending. It closes with hints of Emily’s upcoming story.

Max and Charlotte’s steamy story is a light and playful quick read. The story is well-written. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are nicely developed given the length. The story is written in first person from Charlotte’s POV. I rate this book 4.5 stars.

Charolette and Max have this banter between them that is just pure magic. This is a girl who lost her job and blames it on Max. As she is complaining about him the hostess mistakes her to mean she is his girlfriend and table opens right up. This fake boyfriend things is really working for her until he finds out!! Then the fun begins. You do not want to miss this book. I had so much fun reading it.

My Fake Fiancee is a fun, flirty adventure! Max and Charlotte along with a laugh-out-loud bunch of secondary characters will take you on light-hearted sexy adventure. The banter between Charlotte and her two best friends will have you cracking up. IS Cooper is such a word master that you will feel like your the forth wheel to their friend group, falling right along into the story with them.
Charlotte is one of Cooper's most spunky characters yet! She's witty, flirty, fun, and the attention grabbing extrovert who when she's around will make your cheeks turn red from her outrageously fun personality. But she's also smart, compassionate and full of love and caring for others.
Max is the sexy, humerous, somewhat arrogant but not too much, charming man who can have whoever he wants at the snap of a finger. He's got money, looks, and brains and has the drive to strive and work for what he wants in life and love.
These two together are like dynamite! It's almost like who can outdo the other at times. The back and forth between these two is a constant competition that will set your kindle on fire with their interactions. They can go from competitors to enemies to friends to lovers with the flip of a switch! They feed off of the wild energy each brings to the table. It it works perfect for them! I could not imagine Charlotte with anyone else else. She needs a man who will give her a run for her money and keep her on her toes. And Max is ALWAYS up for the challenge!
If your looking for a sweet, fun and sexy read than go hit the one click button right now. Cooper does not disappoint with the latest book added to her already amazing collection!

Fast, easy, predictable read

The Billionaire Fake Fiancé – J.S Cooper – 3.5 stars rounded down to 3

I’ve read many books by J.S Cooper but this one left me wanting more. This book revolves around Charlotte a girl who loses her job when a cocky billionaire buys her company, whilst having a b*** session with her besties she is mistaken for being the girlfriend of the billionaire who fired her and gets a table straightaway. This starts a web of lies she seems to be falling deeper into, her friends warn her to be careful but when Max the hero of the story finds out she will be in for a shock. Billionaire Max is known for flying under the radar, so when news hits that he has a new girlfriend and finds out she is riding on his coattails he decides to confront the woman but not in the way you would think. Being the reclusive billionaire there are hardly any pictures of him so when he confronts her, she doesn’t recognise who he is, and this is when the story heats up.

The chemistry between the main characters is hot, steamy and addicting their interactions are thrilling. The email and texting scene left me wanting more and the banter between both main characters and Charlottes best friends was the highlight of the entire novel. What I personally didn’t enjoy was the plot progression it was predictable and seemed rushed and left me wanting more. Overall was a good quick, easy, typical billionaire romance read that left me wanting. I would recommend this to any billionaire romance fans.

Enjoy Everyday,

ARC Review: This is my honest opinion of this book.

This was so good. Charlotte has lost her job and hates the man responsible for it. A hostess over hears her talk about Max Parker and believes Charlotte is Max’s girlfriend and Charlotte doesn’t correct her. It’s a little white lie. One never hurt anyone before. Right!?! The problem is it turns into another one and another one. Until Charlotte is now Max’s fiancé. Those little lies catch up to her one day and she isn’t prepared for what’s to come.

Charlotte is smarty and witty. She has a comeback for just about everything. I laughed at her remarks, like out loud laugh. Charlotte is something else let me tell you. Max is hot, sexy, and at first seems like an a**hole, but there is so much more to him than what meets the eye.

I won’t tell you anything more. I’m not going to spoil it for you. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I wish it was a little longer to give more details to the story. This story just seemed rushed and I really would’ve liked to have it slow down a little and explain more, especially in the last few chapters. Otherwise it’d give it 5 stars.

I reeeeaaaallly wanted to like this one

I saw an ad on FB and I loved the blurb. The story was rushed, so it made it unbelievable in a lot of ways and a lot of the situations for the characters were left lacking. I never really felt a connection between the two. Again-just rushed. Based on the blurb this storyline held so much potential for me and sadly fell a little flat in several ways. I can’t remember if I’ve ever read this author before-fast reader problems-but I won’t say I’ll never read them again. I think I’ll try another book possibly in the future because it seems like the great idea was there-I just needed the delivery to come through.

When Charlotte Johnson gets fired from her job at a small boutique design shop, she is livid. Charlotte rants and raves about Max Parker the elusive billionaire tat fired her. As Charlotte complains to her friends at a restaurant the hostess hears Charlotte mention Max’s name and assumes that Charlotte is dating Max. Charlotte likes all the perks that come with being Max’s girlfriend and can’t help herself by telling a few more people to get things. As Charlotte gets more into her lie she never figures that Max will even notice what she has done or even care. Charlotte is very wrong and Max does hear asking Charlotte to be his fake fiancé instead. Charlotte agrees never suspecting that Max holds a secret that will destroy her entire world.
What a funny rom com that made you laugh but also had sad moments too. Of course the story kind of had a shaky start with the heroine being fired, her lies and the way she takes revenge. Still there are plot twists that no one ever suspects. There is a sense of fun injected in the light-hearted style. The story also seems short lacking some descriptions on who one of the characters is and what type of relationship the heroine has with him. Charlotte the snarky sarcastic heroine does lie several times which makes it hard to trust her. Yet still she is smart and funny so makes her somewhat relatable. Max is secretive enough and as the book progresses that you can’t help but like him. This is a good read that is definitely one that is worth a reread!

DNF... This book had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I read the premise and was looking forward to reading a funny enemies to lovers/fake fiance story but the heroine is just soooo annoying. She is one of those characters that whines about their lot in life and is so immature. I felt bad for her friends cause they kept buying her lunch/dinner but meanwhile she is going to spend $100 she claims she doesn't have on a purse. Granted the deal she got was amazing but she needs to take ownership that she claims to not have enough for a basic lunch then perhaps she should focus on saving every last but of money. Then when she is caught in the lie that she is dating this millionaire, she fights with everyone who calls her out on the lie. She is the worst.

Also, it also took forever to introduce the hero. While I think the hero had promise of being funny and interesting, by the time we meet him, I was so over the h that I couldn't be bothered to keep reading. I kept hoping she would get better once the H was introduced, but alas she got even more annoying and immature.

Finally, as a side note, if you have a prologue, make sure that when you revisit the scene later on, we get more insight or something new to the scene to give it additional depth to either the characters or the scene itself. It was super annoying to basically read the exact same scene a few pages later that I just read in the prologue. Since this is only told from the h POV, it isn't like we got to see it play out in a different perspective. Just felt redundant and unnecessary.

I received an ARC from Ms. J.S. Cooper for s review on Amazon. I want to thank Ms. Cooper for giving me the chance to read an advanced copy of this book in both her Betareader and a member of her ARC team.

Life is sometimes a game and you have to fight your way to the top. Life has thrown Charlotte a curveball. She just gotten a promotion at work when the company was sold. The owner was promised that everyone would keep their job but the new owner closes the company and Charlotte is fired. Her friends take her to a restaurant where she is over heard mentioning the company's owner's name, Max Parker. Charlotte then pretends that she is Max Parker's girlfriend. She does this a couple more times before Max ends up at her door.

Unbeknownst Charlotte, Max is in need of a fiancee to close a business deal. Max had leaked that he was in a relationship and that it was heading towards marriage. Charlotte agrees to a business arrangement to pretend Max's fiancee. This of course leads to love and HEA.

This book is well written. The characters are well defined and relatable. The storyline us great. There are funny moments and heartfelt moments. There is a deeper connection between Charlotte and Max that plays in the background but once it comes light it pulls on your heartstrings. I highly recommend this book.
