Mom wants the kids to stop watching TV, so she offers them some special (glasses) large lookers. Once outdoors, the children "look at" grass, trees, and bugs like never before, making them appreciate the great outdoors. They discover that they don't need "lookers" at all to enjoy playing outside.

I liked the idea of the book, but I found the execution less enjoyable than I had hoped. Yes, it does a good job of pointing out some of the awesome things out there in nature, but i didn't feel inspired to go looking, as the kids did in the story. It was probably just me. Not a bad book, though, and probably a great introduction to a unit on exploring the outdoors...and maybe on learning to look carefully.
Two children discover the joys of nature and the benefits of unplugging at the suggestion of their Mom. There are lots of cute rhyming phrases in the book that children should find entertaining. A perfect book to read out loud with the whole family.

This is a book after my own heart, so of course, I liked it. Now to try it with kids ... I think I'll end the story by having them tell me about things they spotted when they were using their own 'lookers.'
This is a really great way to remind kiddos that there's so much to really see in the world, if we'll just take the time. And there's even more to see when you use your imagination!
This was a hit with my Kindergartner. The rhyming format works well as a read-aloud for that age group. The message is simple without being preachy. Get up off the couch, turn off the technology, and go outside to see what you can find. Find beauty and wonder in nature.
