Lovely book as the villainess from books 1 and 2 of the series finds redemption.
Miss DeLancey didn't handle rejection well and created a scandal that has followed her and her family. It doesn't help that her brother racked up so much debt, that her father took funds from her dowery to pay off the debt.
In her despair, she contemplates jumping from the cliffs one night. She never expects to fall in love with the man that saves her from the fall.

This past week I should have been reading review books, but I did not. Instead I got caught up in the "A Legacy of Grace" series and didn't want to read anything else. So, I didn't. Fortunately it was a light review week for me.
Miss DeLancey was a young woman that I didn't like in the first two books. She was manipulating and self-centered. I'm very happy that Carolyn Miller wrote this book about her, so we could find that she wasn't a bad person. In many ways she was a victim.
Books written about the Regency Period have always captivated me. Heroes returned from war. I love to read about the balls, the gowns, romance, and the back-biting socialites. This book contains all of that. It seems as if a person could be accepted or shunned by a whim.
I loved the romance between Clara and Benjamin. They are from two different sets of society, but in her time of need he was what she needed. He is all that a hero should be. His sisters are wonderful characters, they are people that I would like to know.
This book takes us on the path from disgrace to redemption. It is Christian Fiction. Forgiveness and loving The Savior are prominent themes in the book. The behavior and forgiveness of some of the main characters are examples of how we all should act.

I had been looking forward to reading Clara's story since glimpsing her in The Captivating Lady Charlotte, and I believe I enjoyed The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey as much or more than the second book in the REGENCY BRIDES: A LEGACY OF GRACE series. The intrigue of the story, interesting and endearing characters, and a tender faith theme kept me turning pages. Now I need to go back and read the first book in this amazing historical romance series!
Miss Clara DeLancey struggles with dashes hopes and bitterness, surrounded by scandal. A chance encounter with a stranger on the clifftops forces her to reevaluate her life. Might there be a second chance for her? Even at love?
But the man who warms her heart is below her station, much to her parent's disapproval. And the past has a way of haunting one ...
I quite liked getting to know Clara. Her story tugged at my heart. She's an imperfect, broken woman who finds grace and hope and life in Jesus. I love how authentic her journey to faith was!
I love her friends, Mattie and Tessa! *beams* And Benjamin Kemsley ... I really liked his character as well. His seafaring tales. His struggle. His deep faith in and reverence for God. His tender care of Clara ... *sighs blissfully* What a sweet gentleman. So patient with her. So protective. And careful. And adorably romantic.
I think the romance was incredibly beautiful and tasteful.
The characters really were great. Carolyn Miller does such a fabulous job with them. I can hardly wait to read The Elusive Miss Ellison (book one) and Winning Miss Winthrop, the coming first release of a new series.
A personal complaint: I didn't like how some of the characters got a bit disrespectful/demeaning/careless. Yes, they were dealing with mean-spirited or arrogant people, but I still feel they should have checked their own attitudes and made sure they were behaving honorably in God's eyes.
But besides those few incidents, The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey is really a stunning read filled with faith, true friends, forgiveness, redemption, and tender love. I got lost in this gorgeous, emotional regency tale. Many a time I found myself laughing (perhaps mostly at Benjie's adorable wooing attempts), and my heart was touched by Clara's deepening relationship with God.
Carolyn Miller knows how to write a rich and entertaining story set during the regency era. Recommend!

I have loved this series (and the covers!) from Carolyn Miller so much! It’s everything you want Regency romances to be, with delicious back-and-forth between the characters as well as a supporting cast to rival any that Austen or Heyer dreamed up.
In this third and final (sob!) book, The Dishonorable Miss Delancey, we home in on the character I’ve liked the least in the first two books – Miss Clara Delancey. Here in book three, I can honestly say that Clara is now a friend; Miller crafts such a compelling and heart-tugging backstory for Clara as heroine that you can’t help but embrace her. Your heart will break for her circumstances, for her emotional pain, and for her self-esteem that has been crushed by one rejection after another. Not to mention the scandal that taints her in every social circle – save perhaps one. And that one exception proves life-changing.
Because of Ben, yes. (Get ready to swoon, ladies!) But also because of the hand of friendship extended by a family who a) cares little for society’s opinions and b) cares everything for Clara’s soul. Their persistence in grace, their unconditional embrace, and their heart for those who need God’s rescue – all of these combine to leave a reminder for any of us who have ever personally needed or extended grace.
Bottom Line: Perfect for fans of Heyer, Austen, Klaasen, Ladd and/or Hunter, Carolyn Miller’s A Legacy of Grace series is witty, romantic and heartwarming with a gentle dose of faith-boldness too. Layered characters and attention to historical detail make each read a great read, and while each book can be read as a standalone the whole series is a must for enjoyment’s sake! The Dishonorable Miss Delancey is all of these things and more – with a tender message of grace and restoration and of course romance. Looking forward to the author’s new series in 2018!

Alas, we have reached the end of this stunning debut Regency series and I should be wallowing in a woe-is-me-my-reading-nirvana-has-come-to-an-end-blues but some amazing news has pulled me out of my funk -- Carolyn Miller's NEW Regency series, Regency Brides : A Promise of Hope Book 1 releases in Spring 2018. I can almost wish Christmas over so I'll be able to read it sooner. :-)
At last we get Clara's story. For those who have read The Elusive Miss Ellison, you will recognize Clara as 'the other woman' who caused such concern for Lavinia and Nicholas. I enjoyed being righteously indignant over Clara's behaviour in that first book so did I really want to read an entire novel featuring her as a heroine? Well, yes, if Carolyn Miller is writing it! And, by the way, you don't need to have read The Elusive Miss Ellison in order to enjoy The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey but you just might feel it more if you have.
So Clara finds herself on the fringes of society after the 'scandal.' She is completely at the mercy of the gossiping 'ton'. And it doesn't help that her brother has made matters worse with his behaviour. Banished to Brighton for a time, she encounters the Kemsleys. The Captain (insert euphoric swooning and furious fanning here) and his sisters. Once again, Miller enchants with period dialogue and all its subtle nuances. The half-crooked smile, a simmering glare, a soft sigh of longing. It's no wonder my ecstatic readerly sighs ruffled pages all the way through. Simply exquisite.
And inspiring. I love the way this author incorporates a solid faith thread into her stories. Never stilted or preachy but unapologetically brazen in declaring the truth about Grace. Clara has a lot to learn about that and the Kemsley's are just the kind of friends willing to teach and share.
A stupendous conclusion to one of the best Regency series ever!

Full series review on Faithfully Bookish
When authors reveal the painful brokenness beneath the surface of their selfish, wicked characters, we readers have the opportunity to open our hearts to compassion and our minds to new perspectives… and these are life exercises worthy of practicing!
Miss Clara DeLancey certainly is in a nasty pickle, some of her own doing, some not. My heart breaks for this young lady who feels so crushed by her circumstances. Benjamin Kemsley knows a thing or two about difficult situations from his experiences in the Royal Navy. Ben is the kind of man all fathers should want for their daughters.
Each book in this series has touched on biblical truths and characters have come to faith and/or grown in their faith in genuine, authentic ways yet the trials and struggles in this third story dig especially deep and it is so good to dig deep with God! This entire series is going straight to my all-time favorites shelf!

I really enjoyed reading this novel. It has been a long time since I read the first book in the series and quite a while since I read book two. I had forgotten how much trouble Clara and her family caused in the previous books. I remembered generally, but not specifically. However, Clara really suffered for everything and even more things not of her own making. She was at the lowest of lows which finally allowed her to get to the point where she realized the need for grace and forgiveness from others and how to trust in God and learn to forgive and move forward herself.
The hero was swoon worthy and Clara developed good character in this novel, learning to care more for others than for herself. It wasn't an easy path or an easy lesson. I was very happy with the way everything turned out.

A charming Regency story set in the upper echelons of British society with all the rules, mores, and angst. A sweet romance that grows stronger as the book progresses. Enjoyable.

I have thoroughly enjoyed each of Carolyn Miller’s novels to date; this book is no exception. Her characters live and breathe on the page, but become so three dimensional in my mind as I read that it is as if visiting friends for a while. This book finishes the Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace series, and though each stands alone, this one is best enjoyed after reading the first two as we get to revisit some of the characters from them.
This installment explores some darker themes in a refreshing and honest way: past sin, depression, and gambling are among the topics. But so are more positive aspects of life such as forgiveness, recovery, and family love. I really appreciate the author showing that no one is beyond redemption and we can have hope for restoration, both with God and with the people we have wronged (or who have wronged us).
Those who enjoy Regency-set stories will appreciate the historical period details, too. The descriptions of the Royal Pavilion, the Regent himself, and even the aristocratic rule-following ton help to ground this story in its setting. I like the Navy thread in this installment; it is not often that I get to read much about life for those who worked for their living during this time period, giving this book yet another unique characteristic. I highly recommend this final installment of Regency Brides and look forward to the first of Miller’s upcoming series in the spring.

Wow! Carolyn Miller continues to write a story that can entertain as well as move her readers to some soul-searching moments.
In the third book of the Regency Bride series, the author gives us a heroine that is at first unlikable. While this book can be read as a standalone, those of us who have 'met' Miss Delancey before will initially struggle with the idea that she is our new heroine. She has obtained the title, 'dishonorable', due to some poor choices she has made.
It is obvious Miss Miller has done her research, she weaves a story resonant with historical detail. This book allows its readers to journey back to Bath, England during the height of the Regency period. Our hero, Captain Benjamin Kemsley, is visiting family after surviving a tragedy. I found Ben to be yet another swoon-worthy hero. One who will not let the gossip of regency society prevent him from seeking to rescue Miss Delancey from despair. Will she continue to pay for the poor choices made by herself and those close to her? I loved every bit of this story, eagerly wanting to read how Clara would receive her happy ending, but not wanting the story to end.
This books has it all: adventure, danger, humor, love and forgiveness. But the part that spoke to my heart is the story of grace, of how God's presence in one's life can change one, making us into a 'new' man or woman. Once I got beyond my initial dislike of Miss Delancey, I could see how we all benefit from this very same grace.

Carolyn Miller has done it again! She has created a wonderfully written, hope-inspiring novel that is sure to sweet all her fans, new and old alike, off their feet and plop them down in a whole new world filled with uniquely witty characters. I was once again in awe of the way Ms. Miller captured my whole heart and left me wanting more.
In this addition to the series, we get Miss DeLancey's story. I loved her in the first books, and I loved her in this book. She was dealing with so much, from scandal to rejection (I've been there on both accounts!), and I felt her emotions as my own. She just wanted to be loved for herself and it was quite hard with her circumstances. But, then Ms. Miller brings Ben into the story, and oh my goodness did I ever fall in love! I loved his character and cheered for him and Miss DeLancey so much through the story.
A story of hope, forgiveness and relying on God in times when you want to give up, Ms. Miller has concluded this series with a bang. Five stars, hats off and two thumbs up, this is one book you want on your wish list this holiday season! I can't wait to see what Ms. Miller brings her fans next. If they are books like this one, then I know I'm in for a witty, charming regency novel that will sweep me to the heart of England. Well done, Ms. Miller!

I loved his character and cheered for him and Miss DeLancey so much through the story.
A story of hope, forgiveness and relying on God in times when you want to give up, Ms. Miller has concluded this series with a bang. Five stars, hats off and two thumbs up, this is one book you want on your wish list this holiday season! I can't wait to see what Ms. Miller brings her fans next. If they are books like this one, then I know I'm in for a witty, charming regency novel that will sweep me to the heart of England. Well done, Ms. Miller!

What a wonderful end to a beautifully written Regency series. A story of forgiveness, grace, and hope for a better future. Putting her past behaviors behind her is a difficult journey for Miss Clara DeLancey, as judgmental people and gossip continue to hurt her chances of the truth plan God has for her life. I love the characters and how they develop through the story. My favorite paragraph in the book is, “ My point is, I despaired because of an absence of hope. I did not realize then just how much God loves us and that his love means we can have hope. It was not long afterward that I met you and Mattie, and through attending services and reading the Bible, I found real hope again. Hope that was not dependent on my circumstances or whether a man loved me or not, but hope that rested on the promises that God loves me regardless of my situation. And if I know that God loves me, if I really know that, then how can I let despair overcome me again?” I think this is so beautiful and it brings tears to my eyes, as this is something we all need to realize. I just loved this whole series and highly recommend them. I look forward to the first book in the new series Carolyn Miller will be releasing in the spring of next year entitled Winning Miss Winthrop.

I love a good Regency novel. I read Carolyn Miller's very first novel, The Elusive Miss Ellison and realized here was a fresh voice in Christian Regency. Each book she was written seems even better than the last! This one is my absolute favorite, especially because the spiritual theme is so powerful. I love it when God speaks to my own heart through fiction.
Miss Clara DeLancey has somehow managed to have her reputation tainted and has moved to Brighton with her family, now without the funds to live their accustomed lifestyle. She becomes very depressed and, as a result of a chance encounter because of that depression, becomes acquainted with a wonderful family, who lead her into a healing relationship with Christ.

Each of the books in this series continued to get better and better. While I found the first one a tad boring, the second book and this one stepped up the game with tighter writing and more action. This one really did a good job of redeeming a character who wasn't likable in the earlier books.

The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey by Carolyn Miller is a most delightful Christian historical romance which I adored. It is the third book in the Regency Brides series and can be read as a stand-alone. However for maximum enjoyment and to understand the character development, it would be best to read the previous two books.
Once again Carolyn Miller has spun a fabulous tale. There is adventure, jealousy, kidnap, revenge and good old fashioned love. Over it all there is God. A God who "answer[s] even unspoken prayers." A God who is closer to us than we realise and who desires to know us.
The novel is about restoration, second chances and new beginnings. As characters come to know Jesus, they get their priorities in order. Life is not about money and power, it is about people and passion.
There is the theme of identity. "Who are you?" It is only in knowing Jesus that we can really find out who we are.
The tale is about sacrifice and selfless living, helping others who are less well off. "Focusing on something other than herself... was releasing." We get joy from giving.
Forgiveness and guilt are dual themes. Past behaviour means we need to forgive ourselves and others.
Friendships are important. We all need friends who will build us up and not tear us down. Friends who will love us even when they hear the worst of us. "It is only when we are at our lowest that we realise our need for Someone higher." When we reach rock bottom, we will find our Saviour waiting for us to love and restore us.
This Regency Brides series has been a cracking one, with fabulous storylines and wonderful characters. It has been an absolute pleasure to read. I have loved having a different character focus in each book, whilst retaining familiar characters on the periphery.
Roll on the next series from the new and highly talented Carolyn Miller.

I am rather sad to say goodbye to this A Legacy of Grace series, and this book like the others is so good.
I learned to really dislike Miss DeLancy in the first two books, but by the end of this one I had a complete change of mind. This time the author has us walking in Clara DeLancy’s shoes and I came to respect her, especially when she found faith. What a changed individual she has become, and made me think that maybe the cause of a lot of her problems was her mother?
We are back with the Ton and experience a lot of society, what a completely different way of life, and what a life of luxury. We are able to keep our focus with the addition of everyday people, including a pastor and his wife. The little sister is a delight, and her brother becomes a person of interest in the affairs of Miss Delancy.
Each of these books can be read alone, but they are all so good you don’t want to miss the enjoyment that they afford.

A pleasant surprise! After reading the first two books in the series, I really wasn’t looking forward to Clara’s story. I am happy to say that I was wrong. I loved Clara and Ben’s relationship but most importantly, I loved how Clara developed a relationship with the Lord. This was a beautiful story of love and forgiveness!

This, the third and final book in Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace series by one of my most favourite authors Carolyn Miller, is a lovely story. Quite different in the overall feel than the first two books from the series, this is a pleasant and appealing read.
I am utterly sad as I write this review, but don't get me wrong, it has nothing to do with the book. I am saddened because with this book comes a close to “Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace” series, and I would miss the sense of happiness and calm that I got while reading all three of them. Of course I can re-read them, but you read a book for the first time only once, and nothing can replace the experience and feel you get at that time of opening the first page and submerging within its depths deeper and deeper as the story progresses. I have to state this here, that I am going to miss these characters, the places, the stories and the overall feel of them.
What I feel...
Charming! That is what I feel about this book. It shows us the other side of the picture where we get to see from the perspective of Clara DeLancey, the much despised character from The Elusive Miss Ellison
We, as readers, needed this book. Mostly because it widens our perspectives. We are so used to looking at one side of the picture that we overlook what the other side may hold and that it may very well take us by surprise. And it did here. It brought to fore the fact that we as humans err and learn and grow and that we have to learn to let go and forgive.
The storyline is appealing as well as interesting with the highs and lows, the importance of honour and achievement and the callous disregard of the same achievement, the societal expectations and hollow pretence, all penned with a beautiful flare makes this book stand out.
The (Dis)Honorable Miss Clara DeLancey...
Honestly? I had hated her through TEME and somewhat was close to pitying her through the parts of The Captivating Lady Charlotte where she makes her appearance. But never had I imagined I would come to really like her.
I developed a contrary view to her character to the ones developed while reading TEME and TCLC. Here, she believes herself betrayed and jilted. Her reputation damaged, she is scarred by the scandal, depressed and unable and unwilling to move past her feelings of hurt, betrayal, hopelessness, envy and anger. She is bitter about Nicholas and Lavinia on the one side and about her brother bringing their family to ruin on the other. So she is practically penniless and on the shelf, and there is no imaginable light in the tunnel anywhere for her. She is so desperate that she is close on the edge of giving it all up.
Then, the light appears in the form of Benjamin and his sisters and things begin to lighten and brighten up in her life. The transition is gradual as her negative feelings ebb in their intensity and hope begins to take roots in her soul and heals her. But it is not easy for her to accept it and even forgive Nicholas and Lavinia. She overcomes those feelings and comes out dignified.
Clara as a person is helpful, kind, dutiful, caring and beautiful. She lacks friends but when she makes new ones she goes all out for them and uses her resources to help them out.
She forgives as she grows and becomes hopeful and accepts her life with grace. How her tangent with Lavinia is resolved is also remarkable and realistic. The author was successful in turning feelings towards the character of Clara from hate to sympathy and from anger to empathy.
Captain Benjamin Kemsley...
Benjamin is a very grounded hero, not just as the hero hero but as an achieving the impossible feat hero. He's the people's hero. The war hero everyone is talking about. And yet he is humble and unassuming. Nothing flashy about him. A dignified, kind, caring, strong and handsome man. He is as human as can get with his flaws and yet he is very patient and accommodating. Benjamin is very generous even in his near poverty. He has some misplaced guilt and also feels responsible for things which, despite his best efforts, he could not prevent from happening in the past. With no prospects in store, he has made up his mind of never marrying since he cannot afford to do so.
His is a very likeable character and is very relatable with his doubts and insecurities. He is also very loving and responsible as a brother. His faith is what keeps him buoyed and Clara supported. Not judgmental, he is a very compassionate and accepting person with a good heart.
Clara and Benjamin...
Benjamin is the positive force that steadies Clara and instils hope within her. His acceptance of her without expectations and his insecurity of being unworthy of her melts our hearts towards him. Clara's recognition of Benjamin’s merits and pride in his achievements brings them closer. Both can go to extremes for the other and move mountains. A very touching bond that grows between them can be observed and the beauty of it is that it is very simple. At a point they understand each other well enough beyond words and are connected in a special way despite societal disparities in their situations. They do defy the societal norms and expectations in starting to care and feel for each other.
Right from the first moment when they meet while Clara is on the edge and Benjamin saves her from ruining her eternal life, they have some invisible strings that keep pulling them toward each other. The steady growth in their bond is felt in the heart and forms a distinct aspect of the story.
The span of story before they finally come to know of each others identity, where Benjamin mostly, is fighting his feelings and thoughts of the unknown girl who keeps crossing his path and of the girl whom he saved is also interesting. He knows he cannot marry and yet is helpless when it comes to feeling for her.
Overall theirs was a very simple and charming match, which ironically would not have been possible if not for the dire situations of their lives that brought them to the same place.
The ensemble cast...
Characterisation by the author again in this book is interesting. Right from the protagonists to the black sheep Richard, from Tessa and Matilda to Lady Winpoole, and despicable ones like Lord Houghton to loving Aunt Addy, Lord Featherington and even the passing ones like Meg, David and George all are drafted realistically.
Known characters of Nicholas, Lavinia, William Hartwell, Lord and Lady Exeter reappear (though the latter ones only marginally) and we feel like we've known these people forever. The new ones, especially Tessa and Matilda are very cute and I just love their life and love for each other. Also the developments in the lives of Lavinia and Nicholas and Charlotte and William Hartwell are made known, delighting and keeping us connected with them.
The story and the book...
I'm a sea lover, and the first thing to strike me when I started the book was a big part of it was based by the sea in Brighton. I was excited because that element alone earned it some brownie points from me ;p Absolutely loved the scenic descriptions and felt the beauty while perusing the words.
Coming to the story, the plot is not very complicated. It is fairly simple. This book too is fast paced with no time wastage and no word wastage.
The story is engrossing and well thought out. Refreshing as it gives us a new perspective to a previously disliked character to an extent where we can see the beauty in her character and pain in her life and feel for her.
Again, the author is very subtle and not preachy at all. The growth in faith and hope comes out as a natural phenomena rather than a forced acceptance.
To summarize, THE DISHONORABLE MISS DELANCEY IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to lovers of realistic regency romance who are expecting a heartfelt, beautiful, clean historical fiction with a charming heroine, great hero and a touching story of Faith, Hope and Grace.

"The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey" by Carolyn Miller is the third book in the "Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace" series. I have not read the first two books in the series, but I kept hearing so many good things about this series that I was excited to pick this one up! I loved this book and am now excited to go back and read the other two! This book has characters from the other books but can definitely be read as a standalone.
"The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey" features Miss Clara DeLancey as our main character. At the start of this novel, as the title intimates, whether Clara is a heroine or a villain is still up for debate. As one begins this book, it is implied that Miss Clara DeLancey was in fact a rather villainous character in the other books in this series. I didn't read the first two books, so I was not as prejudiced against Clara as I imagine other readers might be coming into this book. I think Ms. Miller does a good job of making the reader sympathize with Clara over the course of the novel and even (gasp!) come to like her. Her character arc and growth throughout the novel is very well done and believable.
I think this whole book is so well written and is a unique Regency era story. I love Clara's character and how she changes over the course of the novel. I really enjoy the side characters as well, especially Matilda and the friendship between Clara and Matilda. I appreciate that Clara is in a hard place in the beginning of the novel--in fact, she doesn't want to live. She struggles with a lot of real emotions and feelings because of past events. She is lonely and lost. I love how Matilda speaks God's Truth into her. Throughout the novel, Clara turns thoughts of loss into prayers of blessing and prays for those who hurt her. There is beautiful reconciliation that happens between some of the characters, but it is not easy and the characters struggle to get to this place.
This book is exceptional on so many levels--the characters, the spiritual aspects, and the writing! "The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey" features themes of forgiveness, redemption, finding oneself, and trusting in God's plan. The book is full of action, danger and dastardly plots as well!
Content: This is a clean read. I would rate this book PG. There is a girl who wants her life to end and is possibly contemplating suicide. A man eyes the low neck of a woman's gown. A man slips something into a woman's drink to try to take advantage of her and then he does try to. There is gambling and drinking at parties that the characters attend. A man physically abuses the main character. A man refers to “certain activities” he wants to engage in with a lady. A man refers to dealing with "light skirts".
Rating: I give this book 4.5 stars.

Several years ago, Christian artist Brandon Heath released a song called "I'm Not Who I Was." That song kept coming to mind as I read Clara DeLancey's story. Prior to her fall from grace, Clara was a respected and sought-after young woman—but she wasn't kind. After she was rejected by the man she expected to marry, her brother Richard disgraced the family with his actions, and the family (minus Richard) retreated to Bristol where they could be out of the public eye. Clara allowed her bitterness and anger to fester, and it got to the point where she wondered if it would be better to end her life.
Then she met the Kemsleys and, through the Kemsleys, met Jesus.
But the consequences of Clara's actions remained, and through the rest of the novel, she fought against the notion of who she had been as she tried to show who she had become in Christ. Not everyone believed that Clara had changed, and some people continued to believe the worst of her. I truly felt for Clara as she felt the social consequences of her—and her brother's—actions. And that's saying something, as I pretty much despised her in the first two books of this series!
I greatly enjoyed Clara's journey throughout the novel, and I especially liked that coming to faith in Christ didn't turn her into a meek wallflower; instead, she began to stand up for herself and for those she cared about. Clara's spunk is one of my favorite things about her!

The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey #3 Regency Brides A Legacy of Grace by Carolyn Miller
1815 Brighton Cliffs, England...the opening scenes of this story certainly captured my attention...I was holding my breath at one point!...as Miss Clara DeLancey finds herself in a rather dangerous predicament, thus setting the “stage” for what follows. I was not very fond of Clara in the first two books and was wondering how her story would unfold and if I would ultimately find her likable at least. I will say that the author has done a fantastic job in redeeming Clara in my eyes by weaving such a heart-tugging backstory for Clara, her growing-faith-journey in Jesus and in developing a humble-character that I could not help but find her charming. Well done Carolyn Miller! I still find her society-climbing mother hard to like.
Then we meet Captain Benjamin Kemsley, who is by far my favorite character in this story. I love his heart, honor and integrity, honesty, humor, the way he cares for his family and those in need and his strong faith. His family—well not so much his brother, captured my heart as well. I loved watching Ben and Clara interact on the occasions they meet and how their hearts yearned for more than friendship. I was hoping they would put the so-called social barriers behind them and allow themselves to find love.
I was happy to see some of the beloved characters from the first two books return in this book so we get a glimpse of their lives since we last saw them. I enjoyed the historical detail of Brighton’s seaside—beautiful, London in all it’s splendor and the Prince Regent’s ostentatious spending on a Grand Pavilion….oh my, it hurt my eyes/senses experiencing it through Clara and Ben’s first visit there! I especially appreciate the inspirational elements woven throughout the story and the importance of faith to the characters. The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey is a story of hope, redemption, forgiveness and relying on God—especially in times when you want to give up, fascinating details and well developed characters that come alive on the pages. A delightful, heartwarming story!

Then we meet Captain Benjamin Kemsley, who is by far my favorite character in this story. I love his heart, honor and integrity, honesty, humor, the way he cares for his family and those in need and his strong faith. His family—well not so much his brother, captured my heart as well. I loved watching Ben and Clara interact on the occasions they meet and how their hearts yearned for more than friendship. I was hoping they would put the so-called social barriers behind them and allow themselves to find love.
I was happy to see some of the beloved characters from the first two books return in this book so we get a glimpse of their lives since we last saw them. I enjoyed the historical detail of Brighton’s seaside—beautiful, London in all it’s splendor and the Prince Regent’s ostentatious spending on a Grand Pavilion….oh my, it hurt my eyes/senses experiencing it through Clara and Ben’s first visit there! I especially appreciate the inspirational elements woven throughout the story and the importance of faith to the characters. The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey is a story of hope, redemption, forgiveness and relying on God—especially in times when you want to give up, fascinating details and well developed characters that come alive on the pages. A delightful, heartwarming story!

I adored this story! Ms. Miller has crafted an exquisite Regency romance. I was immediately immersed into the drama. It's rich in emotion and spiritual truth. I read this novel in one sitting.
Recommend to readers who enjoy inspirational, Regency fiction.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book ever since the glimpse we had of Clara DeLancey in The Captivating Lady Charlotte suggested that there was something redeemable beneath the spoilt and spiteful society miss we have seen so far. And now I can give a sigh of contentment, because this story fulfilled all my hopes. Clara’s journey from resentment and despair through to shame and repentance and then the determination to become a better person was a difficult path to walk, but the opposition she faced along the way only served to make her stronger, and I grew to love her every bit as much as I do Lavinia and Charlotte.
Benjamin Kemsley is a true hero—in the literary and the literal sense! Noble in character if not in title, he has quite the story to tell, but it also left him a cripple and ended his career. The Prince Regent promised him a reward for his heroic actions, but nothing has come of it, and so he finds himself reliant on the generosity of his recently married sister and her husband, and responsible for chaperoning his youngest sister in London society. As with Miller’s other novels, it’s not just the story itself that captures, but the authenticity of the Regency world in which she immerses the reader. I love that we get the rustic side of Regency life as well as the metropolitan, the everyday along with the glitz and glamour, and I love that families are at the heart of her novels—in all their varied and trying glory! Author Miller has done it again. She has captured my attention and pulled me into her third Regency romance and this one done with a character that was previously thought of as the villain. Clara DeLancey had set her sights on Lord Hawkesbury in the The Elusive Miss Ellison and tried to win his favor in marriage against Miss Ellison the heroin we were rooting for. She shows up briefly in the second novel at the Hawkesbury estate after a very emotional loss for the married couple. We saw briefly she might have changed towards the good, but whenever she was in the picture she would set my teeth on edge.
But in the capable hands of the author, she shows us who Clara really is. The pain of the rejection of the man she truly loved, promises that were broken, the scandal her brother brought on the family, and her overbearing mother. All this within the context that now at the age of 25 she was becoming an old maid especially since her parents still would not consider anyone they thought below her station in life. Oh how I felt for her. She was hurt and heart sore, crushed in her spirit. The gossips wounded her and her family, her reputation was in tatters. In this story, her story, we see the real Clara DeLancey. And I must say, she has turned out to be my favorite of all The Regency Brides in author Miller’s series.
And Captain Benjamin Kemsley was the perfect hero for her. Though I would have liked more interaction between them, I do believe that due to their different stations in life the story was very realistic. The absences definitely made the hearts grow fonder.
Do not miss out on this entire series. It is worth escaping into and reading and rereading again. I look forward to what stories are next by this author.

Book three in Carolyn Miller’s Regency Brides: A Legacy of Grace series, The Dishonorable Miss Delancey, is a novel that any lover of regency stories will absolutely delight in. Miller’s story is charming, enjoyable, romantic, and sweet. The characters and story come to life so that readers are sucked in to this enchanting story from page one. It is about the struggle of being publicly rejected by a suitor and overcoming that rejection and finding a new and truer love. Miller brings to life the Regency time period beautifully in this series. Fans of historical fiction, particularly the Regency time period, will not want to miss this enjoyable and pleasant story.

I've read a lot of recency books but haven't ever read one like this, which made me enjoy it even more. I enjoyed seeing her perspective, especially because of how much she was disliked in the first two books.

This book was a solid 4.5 stars for me.
I have really been wanting to read The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey for a while. I had previously heard about the writing of Carolyn Miller. Many people seem to really enjoy reading her books. So I thought I would give this book a go! Boy, did she not disappoint. I really believe the hype about this author is actually warranted for a change.
The characters in her novels feel so real and multi-dimensional, that I sometimes forget that I am just reading a novel. I love that her writing is captivating and so very engaging. Before I get into this book I do want to put a disclaimer out there that I did not have a chance to read her first two books in the Regency Brides series. I do plan on reading them in the future. I did enjoy this book but recommend you read the first two as the characters are revisited and you sometimes need context for scenes.
While this is a Christian fiction novel, I felt that it could be enjoyed by readers of faith and those of other belief systems. The story has a great moral purpose too it, which is something I really look for when reading faith-inspired books.
This book follows Miss Claire DeLancey, who is a mysterious character. She could be a villain or she could be a hero, it is rather hard to tell at the beginning of the novel. The book seems to imply she is a rather villainous woman. I found the character growth in this book to be some of the best I have ever read. I really began to enjoy Claire's character before the middle of the book.
The themes of this book are very interesting indeed. They include finding yourself, trusting God, forgiveness, redemption, finding a purpose, and relationships. I really feel like these various aspects just made this a great book.
This is a super clean book. I will put a disclaimer out there that The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey does contain a scene about potentially contemplating suicide, a scene where a woman is taken advantage of. There is some gambling. All of these are serious topics but are well done and not over the top.
I can't recommend this book enough. I really think you should check out this book. This is a quick fast paced book. It will be an instant classic for fans of the Historical Fiction novel.

Nice ending. I've loved this series from the start! And even though I didn't devour this one quit as quickly as the previous two, that had nothing to do with Clara Delancey being the main character. On the contrary I felt that Carolyn started leading me to feel sympathy for Clara in the last book, since I felt she was a victim of a manipulative mothers as much as Nicholas. But if your sympathy string was not affected by the last book like mine was, Carolyn makes sure it gets a great big tug from the very beginning! I love how she just throws you into the story in the beginning. And while I loved all the characters, old and new, the reason I didn't devour this story like the last is due to me feeling the pace has lulls this time. But the end of the story picks up with the action and then I love how Carolyn wraps up the ending. I was SO happy that my favorite characters, the Hawkesburys, returned. While I enjoyed all the hero characters in this series I've always loved Nicholas the most! ;) This is a redemption story through and through however, and I LOVE all of the faith scenes (though personally I wish Clara had done somethings differently towards the end of the book). But fans of this series are not going to be disappointed with this final addition! Faith, adventure, romance, and so much more await and it's all wrapped up in an absolutely GORGEOUS cover! :) Overall this is a nice ending, leading into new beginnings!
Oh yeah and if, like me, your saddened by this being the last book, we don't have to be to biblio-depressed! Carolyn's new series is due in Spring of 2018!!! :D And dare we hope to see our favorite characters again and again along with meeting new ones along the way? Now I know next spring is quite a while to wait, but I've got a feeling the wait will be more than worth it! ;)

I have enjoyed and savored each page of The Dishonorable Miss DeLancy by Carolyn Miller. The amazing descriptions of the Prince Regents Pavilion in Brighton, the period clothing, and sea bathing transported me to 1815. I am an avid reader of Regency fiction and feel Ms. Miller is becoming one of the best authors of this time period. Her descriptions and her knowledge of the time period make this an enjoyable read.
Ms. Miller has an amazing way of weaving someone's journey with God into her stories. I felt like I was walking with the titular character Clara as she learned of her value in God's sight. I was encouraged in my own faith. I started the book unsure if I could like Clara DeLancey and ended it feeling like we had much in common.
This is the final installment of a three part series. I recommend this book and the first two in the series. Now I must anxiously await for Ms. Miller's new series to come out in 2018. Wish me luck!

Another delightful Regency Romance, this book often entertains by subtle humor as various unpretentious characters show up various pretentious characters. This easy-to-read tale highlights the grace and love of God toward the unlovely and the difference it makes when His followers, too, behave in like manner.
