Rate this book
We cannot do everything that we would like to do, but we can target what is vital at this moment in time to secure our success. —Dr. Mary Lippitt Leaders at every organizational level face continual change with limited time, resources, and available talent. Will we call the right play? Will you? Dr. Mary Lippitt draws from insights based on her thirty years of consulting and training to present a groundbreaking Situational Mindsets framework to address pivotal challenges. Using this clear-cut framework, you can see through the fog of overwhelming options and confidently act on critical needs. In the Foreword, David Covey cites how Situational Mindsets enables leaders to take the pulse of their organization and pinpoint strategies for success. Part One captures how Kate Hollander, a composite of Dr. Lippitt’s clients, leverages Situational Mindsets at a faltering printing company. In this quasi-case history, Kate, a VP of Sales, utilizes the Situational Mindsets method to assesses the firm’s internal and external realities. Using the Mindsets she ignites sales, garners organization-wide collaboration and extinguishes finger-pointing. Her success persuades the owner to use Situational Mindsets to chart a promising course for the company’s future — targeting what matters when it matters. In Part Two, the book shifts from the story to a description of how to employ the six mindsets. Electing to use the Inventing, Catalyzing, Developing, Performing, Protecting, and Challenging mindset shifts as circumstances dictate. Using Mindsets does not require the skills of a rocket scientist but a willingness to use a thorough, methodical, and results-oriented approach to make the right call at the right time for the right results. Mindset Checklists ensure a comprehensive evaluation of current realities. Boost your effectiveness and influence by using six Situational Mindsets to handle change and target what matters when it matters to you and your success.

If you thought you knew everything there was about leadership, you've missed this book. After years of reading books about style and personality, this is a unique perspective. The Mindset checklist is a valuable tool and I definitely plan to use it. Kate's story illustrates the many ways this tool can be used. I recommend this book for all those facing challenging decisions.

Good practice made interesting

"Situational Mindsets " presents a methodology for approaching a host of business projects in a deliberative manner. It uses a case study written as a novella to illustrate the six mindsets. After a happy ending, the principles are reviewed and elaborated. I found it entertaining and enlightening in full measure.
