This is the 24th time I have read a Dragon Masters Book, and it show no sigh of slowing. The only thing that is going to slow us down is when we hit the end of the published stories and have to wait 3 or 4 months for the next one to release. To be honest I was thankful when my youngest wanted to return to these books. Seventeen of those reads have been in the last 6 months. As a family we love these books! A few years ago, I read the first eight books of this series to my son. Then his interest waned. I had purchased three of them but did not get around to reading them myself. Then my youngest wanted to return to them and we started over again. This year we also found out that my nephews have been reading them and that he was only 1 book ahead of us. He is reading the physical books and we are reading the eBook editions. This is another fun story in a great series. It is one of my daughters favorites. My youngest daughter is insistent that we will read the whole series. And she has spent her reading challenge money buying all the kindle editions that are available. Including Griffin’s Guide for Dragon Masters.

This series continues to have staying power. I have read some of the stories 4 or 5 times now. And have been reading them for over 4 years. And I still enjoy the stories as do my children. My son who thought he had outgrown these stories has been sitting in and listening to his sister read them to me. It is also great to know that my brother’s family loves them as much as ours. It is fascinating to watch the kids interact and compare notes about the books that they are both reading. And to predict what will happen next based on the endings of the book, or title of the next as we queue it up.

One of the great things about this series is that it is a true series. In that each story builds upon the last. The stories are strong enough to be read on their own, but as a whole we get to watch the growth of the group as they come together as a team and learn to work together and support each other. We see some characters come in and out of the stories. At the end there is usually a hint, or a hook for the next story.

In this adventure we travel to the land of Remus and we meet new dragon master named Tessa and her dragon Sono. We are informed upon their meeting that:

“Drake stared at the new dragon. A wavey pattern of rainbow colors rippled across her scales. She had 4 legs and no wings.”

Both the dragon and master have a bit of a hippy look and feel to them. And my daughter loved the cover and pictures of the two. This volume is illustrated by Matt Loveridge, who also illustrated volume 14. The illustrator seems to change every book or two, and this is the first time I recall an illustrator skipping a volume and then returning. The illustrations keep a consistent feel and look. But each artist leaves their own mark on the books they work on. Some illustrations stand alone and some wrap around the text and span two-page spreads.

In this volume the team is trying to stop a wizard battle. And it appears to be one of the riskiest adventures they have been on yet. One of the team is turned into a duck and not at all happy about it. But to find out which one you will need to read the book. They also have what appears to be an impossible task, to get a gem from the center of an unbreakable rock. This is the first time that we have encountered a Dragon Master with a physical disability. And what they do to overcome and compensate for it. It is great to have such a character in the story. And We hope it is sings of things to come. My daughter was looking forward to sharing with a classmate who has the same condition. And we hope she will get interested in these awesome books.

This is another great read in a really fun series. This one was not as dark as the last few, but we know that more trials are yet to come. They are fun books for readers both young and young at heart. They can be enjoyed multiple times. I am impressed with the staying power of this series. Even after multiple reads over several years I still really enjoy returning to the Dragon Masters. And look forward too many more reads in this series, as my daughter is insistent, she will read them all to me! This book was given a quick and solid it 5/5 stars from my daughter and I would have given it 4. We had a long discussion about why and settled on 5 for the review. A great read in an excellent series.

I think the book was a 5 star book because 2 wizards were in a fight and they were making a cloud covered with magic so they had to go to a find a type of rock that was in a another rock that was unbreakable and the dragon turned into sound waves and got the type of rock that needed to stop the magic.

We loved how the author included a disabled child. It gave me an occasion to make my sons reflect on how children with a disability cope with their environment and how they develop stronger senses.

Great book, we cannot wait for the next one.

This installment in the Dragon Masters series was darling. I loved the representation of having a vision impaired Dragon Master.

In Remus, Tessa is the local Dragon Master. She is blind but her dragon, Sono is also a guide animal to her. When a wizard battle threatens to engulf the whole city in a cloud of magic, Drake and Petra go to Remus to help out.

I thought that the ability for Sono to travel at the speed of sound was a pretty neat addition to the list of magic dragon powers. With this and Worm's power all the dragons and dragon master's traveled to the Castle of Wizards to collect a power crystal that will absorb all the wild magic threatening Remus.

Of course the dragon masters return to Remus fight the big battle and the day is saved.

What was surprising was that end of this book Petra decides to stay in Remus to work with Tessa and be closer to her family. Hopefully we will see her and her dragon in a future book.

If you have not read the books before this one, I would recommend you read them first

If you don't know what this book is about, it is about some kids that get chosen as 'Dragon Masters' and bond with a dragon. With their dragons they try to stop evil wizards, save controlled dragons, and generally do good things. In this book, they're trying to stop a wizard battle.

I would recommend this book to kids. I like this book mostly because of the pictures, and like to study how they draw them.

Right now, I wonder how many more dragons they will introduce.

I liked this one a lot. The plot felt better and the new dragon master is a girl who is blind and really cool. I think it's great character representation for kids.

Personal Notes: Drake is a Hufflepuff. Rori is a Slytherin.
Lists: Dragon books for beginning readers, earliest chapter books

Dragon Masters is an early chapter book in the fantasy genre about dragons and magic. It is the #16th book in the series, but if you haven’t read any before, like me, it was not a problem because the author explains who the main characters are, and you won’t feel like you’ve missed anything. An unexpected element of the story is that one of the characters is blind, and she explains her disability. The character, Tessa, is more than willing to share what it is like and how she uses her other senses and walking stick to guide her. Her dragon, Sono, is her guide animal. Together with the other Dragon Masters, they battle the evil wizard and save the city of Remus.
This book is a good mentor text for writing to show how to elaborate. The author was very descriptive, with good examples for students to follow. It is also an excellent book to show diversity and see a disabled character as a hero. This book is suitable for 2nd grade reading level but appeals to 1st-3rd grade.

The book called "Call Of The Sound Dragon"was a elaborate read. It was really enchanting. I was enthralled by the powers of the Sound Dragon. Tracey West is a fascinating author.

What happened in the book was that: there was a evil wizard called Marco. He went to Remus (a city) and dueled with the town's wizard, Felix. The problem was that every spell they cast sent a large cloud into the air. If anyone touches the cloud they turn into a duck or worse. Meanwhile the cloud is getting larger and statues are coming alive! The only way to make it vanish is to find the extremely rare and difficult to get, Power Crystal. Will they get the crystal?

The reason I like the book is stupendous and lively. It is also enthralling.

The love for this series is REAL in our home. Seriously, these books are absolutely captivating for both my 5 and 3 year old and they were soooo excited when the "book fairy" dropped another one off. We read it all in one night and I really liked this story. It's an adventure for Drake and Peta (which is pretty unique, as Petra tends to hang back in most of the other adventures) and the new Dragon Master, Tessa, is blind and that was really great to see a character with different abilities incorporated into the series.

My kids have already discovered the next book on the back cover and can't wait to get it.

Children save a city this time, although I don’t know why they didn’t use the power crystal to absorb the bad wizard’s power while they had the chance.

My favorite thing about this volume of the series is the inclusion of a dragon master who is blind and the ways she adapts and overcomes obstacles. Lovely!

Especially by the time you're at the 16th book, you have to know what to expect from these from the standpoints of things like plot and character development. In those areas, they are generally basic and predictable. For me, it's a fun, safe, and nicely illustrated read at bedtime with the kids. These books are quite short, though, so we get through them very quickly.

Two wizards named Felix and Marco were fighting with magic because Feix was trying to protect the city. They needed a power crystal to stop them fighting and used the crystal to stop Marco.

Did you like the book? I liked it a little. I liked it bc Sono (the dragon) can turn in to a sound wave and go very fast. I didn’t like the story as much as other ones.

This was a really fun one in a great series. I really liked the dragon and the dragon master in this one. There's a lot of potential for this dragon's power and I hope that we see more of them! There were some nice background details in this one too, as the author does more world-building!

Out of all the books I’ve read in this series, this one is my all time favorite. I love the inclusion of children with disabilities and the fact that they are showcasing that everyone has the ability to do anything no matter the obstacles in their way.

You would think these books might be becoming a bit repetitive and you may be right but when everything was just awful this week, these books were exactly what I needed with the fun little adventures and quests to save the world.

A dragon that can travel via sound wave is pretty cool. Interesting that nobody is showing any remorse for letting free somebody who is "worse than Maldred." Multiple somebodies. But whatever, I'm glad they could have a cool sound dragon help them stop this fight or whatnot.

My 5 - 6 year old never enjoyed it

The story is difficult to follow with too many odd names and characters. My son never liked it even after we put it away for 6 months
