2036: The Year Trump Stepped Down!: A Horrifying, Factual Account Sent Back in Time (Through Three Black Holes) To Some Random, Hack Writer

Rate this book
From Michael Sandels, the best-selling author of Artism; Art is Murder and The End of the Word As We Know It; A Comic Explanation for Today’s World comes the new epic book about a futuristic America after enduring twenty years with Donald TXXXP and his family running the show, in a dangerous world at war for humanity's future.
The bad news the place is a catastrophic mess, a barren wasteland similar to the days of the Wild West, except now both coasts, East and West, are completely gone!
In 2036, the have-nots must gut it out every day in the dangerous outdoors, suffering otherworldly, disastrous weather patterns along with the better-than-likely chance of getting shot for any reason at all. The Rich, who reside in the ten domed capital-cities (all of them able to withstand any weather catastrophe from the outside world), receive every penny in the Administration’s coffers to support their ten models of human ingenuity, these multi-mile-wide, spacious luxury domes called the capital-cities.
In the book, an array of six groups of people from every walk of life in 2036-America go about their lives, striving to survive the frequent world-shaking events of the day, all the while desperately trying to figure out what happened to the entire Southern Hemisphere, which rumor has it, is completely missing! To uncover the answers, the reader is transported into the jaw-dropping, comical and satirical world of the TXXXP “Regime” (as they’re now called), including Kelly-Ann CXXXXY and Steve MXXXXR amongst others...and the ludicrous mess the Earth has become only sixteen years from our present day!
Everything unravels in tragically humorous ways, with many surprises that are eerily all-too-familiar in stupidity to present-day America. At its core, 2036: The Year TXXXP Stepped Down! is the tale of our country if the TXXXP family continued on for twenty full years, and the tragic decisions made in the past (and present) which re-circle back to haunt them.
Experience 2036! You’ll never view the news in the same way again!
For liberals only!

This short novel is a farce, really, because it depicts a future America had Trump not left office when he was voted out in 2020. It is at turns humorous, sad, scary and just plain ridiculous.

The author has thought of everything that could happen and within 16 years, it has. Most of America appears to be underwater. The climate has gone haywire. People of color are nonexistent, and everyone living outside the "domes" are cannibals because animals are extinct and with constant tornadoes, earthquakes and other natural disasters, what else is there to eat?

The president has built numerous White Houses and each of his family members are in 2036 members of royalty. There are really only three nations/world powers in this dreary future and none are ideal. North America is now United-America or America-United, because Trump can't seem to remember what he called his territory.

How did this happen?

When the elected Democratic President (the last ever), XXXXXXXXX, and the new First Family arrived at the DC White House with their swarm of Secret Service Agents, they found a White House guarded by almost half of TXXXP ’s Secret Service detail (the ones who agreed to remain), along with scores of gun-toting bikers and paramilitary White Supremacists. According to Wilbur RXXS, speaking for the Administration from a podium in the Rose Garden, “DXXXXD X. TXXXP is in the Oval Office still, and he is not leaving because the election was rigged.” RXXS then produced a 7,250-page report prepared by Attorney General BXXL BXXR, which supposedly proved that TXXXP won (it didn’t).

Absolutely no character in this book is likable, or redeemable. Sure, there is a rebel faction, but even they are completely out of their minds it seems. With several narrators, each with a different end goal in mind, it's difficult to follow the path the United States has taken during Trump's reign or to get a logical timeline of events.

The author dwells extensively on the decisions being made by the current administration. That includes climate decisions, "rare earth" (a hot commodity in 2036), decisions on guns and opioids (available on every street corner under the domes), rape and abortion, and more.

While funny, this sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek piece will not appeal to Trump supporters or conservatives in general, but it was worth reading because there were moments of clarity and warnings smattered throughout.

Watch for an amusing cryogenic piece and cameos by Justin Bieber, Kenny Loggins and more!

(Thank you to ReedsyDiscovery and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review)

Read 2036 - you’ll always remember it!

THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. It’s smart funny and fast-paced. AND there are lessons .... the author’s wry and dry humor, along with his barely-disguised determination to save us from ourselves makes this unique and fun.
READ IT - 2036 is enjoyable and memorable!!

Michael Sandels delivers a politically incorrect fiction that will make you laugh, chuckle, and think. He creates an imagined 2036 life in a place filled with injustice. The conversations and interactions are positioned as relating the distortion of the world’s future, due to social and political choices. You can enjoy this book regardless of your voting party preferences but only if you have a sense of humor.

2036 is laid out with a focus on people and communities that remain. One of the chapters, Above Myrtle Beach, June 4, 2036 introduces listeners (readers) to Ted and Bob. Their conversation takes you on a serious, yet whimsical tour of life at that time with creative license.

Ted and Bob were both smiling and feeling like they were floating in the sky. “This is the life.”
“Oh, yeah,” responded Ted, “You kidding?”
“Just checking.”
(They relaxed and drank from cups with paper umbrellas.) “So no more saying anything?” Ted asked Bob.
“Nope.”
“About it?”
“Nope.”
“Abut Him too? Can I even say ‘Him’?”
“just probably don’t,”
“And this is not the law?”
“That’s what I hear.”
“From the Administration?”
“Well, yes. And Facebook.”
“Can I even say that now? ‘The Administration? Without getting’ a look-see from above? From ‘Space Force!’?”

And on these guys go while applying their 147 sunblock. Each area of the remaining world highlighted in each chapter provides those characters’ viewpoint and highlights the errors made that resulted in this new world, while Facebook watches everyone and everything.

Michal Sandels provides a fabulous rendition of the story using distinct voices and specific accents in a non-stop manner that kept me fully engaged. Michael is closest to the story he created and effectively uses his voice to make this an enjoyable experience. I can say with confidence that no one would subscribe to this as the outcome of our world, so it will give you pause.

2036: The Year Trump Stepped Down! might be the ultimate distopian novel. This book is both terrifying an hilarious. Terrifying because unless you've been living under a rock for the past four years, you can read this book and think, "damn, this could happen!" Hilarious because of the author's command of satire. The last line of the book's cover blurb is "Warning: For Liberals Only." I'm not sure I agree. This book is enough to give Liberals nightmares, albeit, nightmares with some laughs thrown in. On the other hand, I suspect there is a certain segment of Trump supporters who just might find this book to be the ultimate utopian novel!

I received this book for free at my request but the opinion is of my own. This book takes us to the future as if trump never leaves the office and has forced his way to stay until a bitter end for him. During this time rape becomes acceptable, people live very short lives, those against trump are hunted, and the world is a mess. Definitely a scary thought for those that care about what’s going on in our world.

"I'm sorry ."
Given the lengthy and thorough synopsis, there is little point in rehearsing here what 2036 is about and it is probably obvious, too, that this is a cynical and sarcastic look at the future of earth and it's population if humankind continues as it presently exists. It is fast paced, futuristic 'fun' superbly read by the author, Michael Sandels, himself, who impressively captures not only separate voices for the numerous protagonists, but also the various emotions behind them, and with some virtuosic phrases, fast paced and spoken without extra breathe or any fluffs. Bravo: great performance.

I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of 2036, The Year Trump Stepped Down, by the rights holder, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. Yes, it is an amusing and unusual look to the future, but also a timely warning that things have to change, and now, if a future worth having is going to happen. It is short, quick to read and recommended to everyone who cares, especially those with a sense of humour.

Audible:Oh man!Let us hope that this doesn't play out this way!Where was a warning of the plague? That must have been an alternate reality. I found this book to be well written and funny as heck! Although we know Donald T(redacted) is a terrifying blowhard,we had no idea he'd be king.If we could all just get along. Mr Sandels did a fine jab as narrator. was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

(I'd give it 3 1/2, but I'm rounding up for Christmas :) )
It's more caricature than satire, so it's a but coarse. After I got used to it, I really liked it.

Silly and exaggerated, but enough of it rings as almost plausible. Especially with what's happening in the news (December 2020: pardons for cronies, veto against stimulus cheques, etc.)

There was a time that I might’ve found this as mildly entertaining satire...but now, it feels like someone trying out new comedy material and not realizing the audience is squirming, not participating.

I expected much more from the book. It isn't the best of Michael Sandels. It has some funny moments nothing unexpected in the big picture of the plot.

I listened to this book on Audible. It reminded me of the show “Futurama”. It took about 3 chapters before I could get into this book. There are quite a few laugh out loud moments. Not too sure how a Conservative would react to this book lol
