Millie has spent half of her life running from her perilous past, particularly from someone who wants nothing more than to destroy her life. She's dedicated her entire adult years to hiding in solitude, fearful of what will happen if she exposes herself even the slightest bit to the outside world. She likes to stay on the move, difficult to track and nearly impossible to find. Her latest move lands her in a dilapidated cabin high up in the forested mountains, secluded and isolated from the rest of the world --just the way she likes it. While Millie does her best to stay undetected in her new surroundings, she regrettably uncovers a horrendous crime that throws her into a whirlwind of circumstances that threaten to obliterate everything she’s ever worked for-- keeping her identity unknown. In a twist of events, Millie’s past comes back to haunt her worse than she ever imagined it could. Suddenly, she finds herself fighting for her life, while desperately trying to prove she’s innocent of the crime she’s now being accused of, something she’s unfortunately fought to do before.
Story started on a very promising note, I really loved the writing style and especially those minor details writer mentioned throughout the book about the dress, surroundings, routine etc. Insecurities and fears of main character "Milli" are beautifully portrayed , reader can almost feel them. Prime character of this story - Milli is a famous crime author who lives as incognito by her book name with very less contact with outside world. She move from one place to another to maintain her privacy, reason is because she is kind of running from her past which keeps her always in horrors and with nightmares. One day while taking a stroll near her newly occupied cabin in Colorado, she finds a dead body in the bush, afraid to her past thus reluctance to inform police she gets back to her house. After some retrospection she informs the police as anonymous witness. Circumstances changes and she gets accused of that murder with various proofs, her past also confirming these claims. Will she be able to come out of this clean and what was the horrors of her past ? This is what story is about. I found the revelation of her past and her actions to come out of it not that unique which I was expecting. Climax was kind of filmy to me. Overall it's average work but considering it as first book of the writer, it's worth praising.
I was introduced to this writer's debut novel through a mutal friend. She lives in a neighboring town and had just released this beauty! It was a great suspense book and had me wanting more after the first chapter! There were some heart pounding moments to figure out what happened to Millie and how it was going to play out in the end!!! Overall loved the book and cant wait to see more from Kayla
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and I did not want to put it down. Interesting twists in the book. Kayla Cutsinger is a natural storyteller and she let's you come along for the ride. I am glad I read it. I would suggest it highly, as I have done with my family and friends.
I had to skip paragraphs to get to the end of the sample. Sample was pretty long but I was not tempted to be sad it ended. I love reading a good book, I am sorry this was not one I would try
Really good read! The description of Millie's fears and neurosis' are excellent. You can feel her fear and anxiety growing as you turn the pages and you will be drawn in. Great first novel!
How do I describe it?! This kept me sooo on edge the whole time. It was like I knew some things bound to happen but kept me still wanting to read more. Highly recommend!!
