In the Spring of 1942 war torn London was coming to terms with the havoc and upheaval the bombings created in the east end. Families were being torn apart but the characters in these streets were never going to let go of their community without a fi ght and had decided long ago that they would overcome whatever problems came their way. The dubious activities of the local Black Market contact and a death because of a back street abortion are all accepted and dealt with. One of their own, a widow, Judith, whose husband and young son had been killed in a bombing raid, decides to foster an orphaned child from a Home in the area. The mystery is that nobody recognises him. A surprise Cornish connection unfolds and a new chapter in Judith’s and the boy’s life begins when they relocate to St. Austell. To complicate matters she fi nds herself in charge of a gang of Land Army girls from London who bring a humour with them which reminds her of home.
