I hate to criticize a self-published cookbook because it's something I wish I had the courage and time to do for myself. I bought this book because I've eaten at a Cracker Barrel two times and I was intrigued. I know that CB is pure comfort food and the calorie police doesn't visit those restaurants. My criticism is that the photos are lackluster-- amateurish-- sorry to say. For me, a cookbook needs to have mouthwatering photos. I'm a food blogger, and I'm constantly striving to improve my photography and plating because we do taste with our eyes. Sorry...
Feels a bit weird to review a cookbook because I think how much you’ll like this friends on your taste. But honestly, if you go in looking for southern style cooking, that’s what you’ll get!
I was impressed with most of these recipes. For the most part, they actually do what they promise and taste pretty darn close to the restaurant’s quality. There’s some variation, but truthfully, that happens with almost every recipe.
The layout of the book was a bit simple but it does its job. I would have appreciated a few more pictures. But it’s a fine cookbook.
These are excellent tips on secrets of Cracker Barrel. As a Southerner myself, I love to cook, the only things I would change is homemade cream of chicken soup as opposed to canned, high sodium, it is easy to make your own. I enjoyed the book. I highly recommend! carolintallahassee.com
I have only been to Cracker Barrel once, but loved it. I was very pleased to see this cookbook. The pictures were not very appetizing, but liked the recipes and the conversion chart in the back.
