John Lindley Byrne is a British-born Canadian-American author and artist of comic books. Since the mid-1970s, Byrne has worked on nearly every major American superhero.
Byrne's better-known work has been on Marvel Comics' X-Men and Fantastic Four and the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics’ Superman franchise. Coming into the comics profession exclusively as a penciler, Byrne began co-plotting the X-Men comics during his tenure on them, and launched his writing career in earnest with Fantastic Four (where he also started inking his own pencils). During the 1990s he produced a number of creator-owned works, including Next Men and Danger Unlimited. He also wrote the first issues of Mike Mignola's Hellboy series and produced a number of Star Trek comics for IDW Publishing.

Every so often you have to start over again - see the new take artist/writers have on a SH. Superman (S) has to be the hardest character to tackle; so many years and so many interpretations. I actually have friends who collect different decades of S comics; that is how deep he is. I can think of no better person than John Byrne to take on the legacy of S.

John Byrne's writing and pencil work are so much fun. It came out in the 80's, and yet the art style is still so captivating and exciting. His version of Superman is my favorite. Capable, yet fallable. Relatable, yet still other-worldly. In my opinion, this is the single greatest run on Superman in the history of the character.

Great collection of the reboot of Superman after Crisis on Infinite Earths. This title helped put John Byrne on the map. Great art by various DC alum as well.
