Thick Ice

Rate this book
Alene’s home life is falling apart. Her father’s solution is to retreat and her mother’s is to scuba dive in the bottom of a whisky bottle. Alene’s preferred technique is to go hiking in the picturesque woods of Groton State Forrest.

But when she hikes farther than ever before, through thick falling snow, she comes across the serenity of the majestic, frozen Kettle Pond. The place is perfect. Just what she needed to soothe the inner turmoil.

Until a wavering tendril of black smoke rises from the distant center of the frozen pond. Against her better judgment, Alene investigates, only to learn the true meaning of turmoil. And blood-curdling terror.

A modern tale of twisted terror, this short story, the third in a series connected to a strange town in the center of Vermont, runs approximately 14 pages in print.

Praise for Edward Phantom:

“‘The Firmament of Night’ by Edward Phantom is not just frightening, it features some of the best character development I’ve seen in a short story. By the story’s end, I cared about the characters, and hoped against their rather unfortunate fates.”
—Jeremy Bishop, bestselling author of The Sentinel and The Raven

“I picked up ‘The Firmament of Night’ by Edward Phantom out of curiosity and devoured it in one sitting. The story is well written, with just enough detail to paint vivid images in your head and an ending that will wow you. Cannot wait to see what he comes out with next. Definitely adding him to my ‘must read’ list!”
--Carol ‘Pixie’ Brearley, author of The Dark Angel trilogy

“Loved this ‘The Wound in the Woods’! Mr. Phantom is delving awfully close to the edge of madness on this one.”
—J. Kent Holloway, international bestselling author of The Ghostfeast

“I heard about and looked forward to reading Edward Phantom’s ‘The Wound in the Woods.’ I was hoping for horror, but not just that, I wanted thrilling. Phantom didn’t disappoint. Awesome story!”
—Starr Gardinier, author of The Other Side: Melinda’s Story
