As always, I enjoy Kate's books. I read this one again, just for motivation. The book starts with homemaking tips, budgeting tips and tips on how to fill the pantry. The rest of the book is filled with recipes. This is a good one to have on the shelf to use as reference.
The description of the book indicated it was about household budgeting. It seems the author “tackled her budget” by growing a lot of her own food, predominantly vegan lifestyle, homeschooling her children, and if you are looking for information on making THOSE major life changes, this book would be for you.
However this does not address the concerns of the average family. Not everyone has the time or DESIRE to buy all foods in bulk and cook every meal from scratch or use only space heaters and window ac units instead of the central heat and air to save money.
If the book were marketed as something other than a household budgeting book, it would find a more successful target audience.
Any person whose task is housekeeping will benefit from the book. Lots of very frugal ideas and recipes for cleaners etc. I don't think that I would go to such measures but I did glean helpful suggestions
Meh. This was a (not great, not terrible) description of some fairly labor-intensive and not ultimately that worthwhile ways to save money around the house. Trading time for money savings seems like exactly the wrong trade to make, generally.
So this is an interesting book on how to live sensibly with loads of tips. However it's very American so sizes of pantry etc is always bigger here than the uk
