Returning to Earth was never going to be easy... Unable to gather help in Rena space, Claire has finally returned to Earth to help her fellow Aspects fight to keep their planet safe.
But returning isn't as simple as Claire had hoped. She's changed, and so has everyone else.
Including Hate.
With the outcome of the war depending on their bond, is there anything of it left to salvage?
TRUST/DOUBT is the sixth book in L.C. Mawson's YA/NA Aspects series. If you love kick-ass, sarcastic heroines, superpowered people fighting monsters, and alien civil wars, you'll love this fast-paced sci-fi series.
Some say she's an ancient creature of nightmare that was unleashed from beneath the ocean, come to devour the souls of men. Others say that she's a cosmic being from the beyond the stars that has taken corporeal form to learn our ways for some unknown end...
In truth, L.C. Mawson lives in a tower in the middle of a haunted forest, far from civilisation and is definitely not a witch who curses those who trespass upon her land. And she definitely cannot turn into a dragon that flies over cities in the dead of night and whose cries are often mistaken for an approaching storm. Where did you hear that? That's absurd...
The only contact she has with humanity is publishing books every so often, which is definitely just for fun and not part of an ancient contract with a trickster god.
It been a while since I read this book but I’m just now getting my review up because it’s 2020 and I don’t have it together.
Overall this was a strong book and it explored the relationship between Claire the Aspect of Love who had recently returned from Rena space and Hate who she had broken up with prior to this.
There is also a lot of action from the alien creatures on Earth and from the Dishar that followed Claire home. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series to see what happens next.
Earth is in jeopardy…. This series is literally filled with Powerful characters, both righteous and flawed, facing perilous circumstances. And where do you turn when trust is in short supply, allegiances are shaky at best, your enemies are fierce, and there seems to be yet another battle right around the corner? As with the previous books in this series, you don’t have much time to catch your breath before more events evolve and devolve!
This book six of the Aspects series and follows the Aspects of Love and Hate, as Claire – the Aspect of Love – returns from Rena space, after being betrayed by her new husband and nearly dying. She had gone out originally as she couldn’t leave her younger sister to travel there alone and had broken up with Hate. Claire thought she could gain help from this alien planet, where the original Aspects came from, to help fight against the dragons and other creatures trying to destroy their fortified cities. Only problem is that she has been followed back and the attacks are getting worse as the Dishar come to attack Earth.
The Dishar wanted the powers of the Aspects back on their planet, which would mean the death of all Aspects on Earth, as their bands would have to be removed. They realised that Claire and her sister had been lying when they said there were no more bands on Earth. There is war already on their own planet and now they have brought the fight to Earth. Claire and Hate try to avoid each other as much as possible. Both have changed in the time apart. Hate has a new partner, who still needs reassurance that Hate wants them and isn’t pining to have Claire back. Claire stil has feelings for Hate, but realises she must hide them and let Hate have the life she has chosen. Claire was the one that left after Hate was badly injured, so she has to shoulder the burden.
Lots of work goes into the relationships between all the Aspects, some who have to live in separate towers, as they can’t live or work together. The return of Claire and her sister beforehand, has upset the small community of Aspects and rocked their boat, for want of a better saying. They have to come together to fight the Dishar and their strongest fighters are Claire and Hate. For the sake of their friends and even planet Earth, they have to work out how to work together without their emotions getting in the way. Everyone’s future depends upon them. A heavy burden! There is also lots of action with the dragons and ‘alien’ fighters and new weapons needed to overcome the advantages of tech the Dishar can utilise.
Another fantastic read from the author, which I would recommend to all. Start at the beginning and you will enjoy it even more! I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
L.C. Mawson is a woman of extraordunarily wonderful imagination, and this is amply demonstrated by her Aspects series. So now we come to Trust/Doubt (Aspects Book 6) and I don’t have enough superlatives. This is one of those times where you can tell a book from its cover. This one is beautiful, mysterious and alluring - and so is the book. I do love “kick-ass, sarcastic heroines, superpowered people fighting monsters, and alien civil wars” when well done. Claire & Co.’s tale is much more than merely well done, and it’s supremely easy to highly recommend.
The Aspects of Hate and Love have rough lives made even harder by past decisions. The war between Earth and the Dishar seems to be getting underway. But the successes aren't being celebrated as they seem to come on the heels of depressing insights. Perhaps a future story will help lead these wonderful characters out of their self imposed gloom.
Trust/Doubt (Aspects Book 6) by L.C. Mawson is an amazing story to read. This is book number six in this amazing series and I can not get enough of this author. I highly recommend this story to all.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
