Born and raised in south Louisiana, Nola Nash spent much of her childhood on stage in community theater productions or with her nose stuck in a historical fiction book. She grew up surrounded by rich and colorful history and loved exploring the magic and mystery of old New Orleans. Inspired by the stories that city could tell, she dove into writing her own novels. Now, she’s an English teacher and school theater co-director by day and a writer by night. So, basically, nothing has changed. Except now she lives outside of Nashville with her three kids.
Set in New Orleans. A mystery, Historical. Fast read. This checks all the boxes of what you want in a book. I read this book so fast and was so sad to see it come to an end. I will say I am want to read more from Nash now. I gave this book 4 stars.. I recommend it. The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. Crescent City Moon draws the reader down to the heart of antebellum New Orleans, inviting them to savor every sensory experience involved in this fast-paced tale of witchcraft, voodoo, and accursed bloodlines--plus a bit of romance, too. Nash deserves her place next to Anne Rice and Poppy Z. Brite in the Hall of New Orleans Literary Greats, bringing to life the intricacies of this city and culture with skill and vivid detail. Ready to binge the sequel!
Wow! 4.5 stars for this amazing read! I read this in a sitting and couldn’t put it down! I love spooky reads and mystery books and this filled everything I love reading in this genre!! If that’s not bad enough once his killer is being looked for she finds more mystery surrounding her father and in her mother’s death prior. She must accept the person she really is and try to find the real truth! This suspense filled read will keep you guessing right till the end ! Loved it so much and a great start to Halloween for me! Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “Crescent City Moon” by Nola Nash, Panda Moon Publishing, On Tour with Suzy Approved Book Tours
For those Paranormal Readers, I highly recommend “Crescent City Moon” by Author Nola Nash. The genres for this novel are para-normal, fantasy, thriller, mystery, and suspense. I love the way that the author vividly describes her haunting and chilling characters, events, and landscape which mostly takes place in New Orleans. The timeline for this novel is set in 1820, and the author goes to the past when it pertains to the characters and events. The author describes her dramatic and quirky characters as complex, and complicated. Some have magical powerful powers, and some are mean-spirited and evil. There is a theme of good and evil, and the church works with some unusual characters with good intentions.
This is one edgy, frightening, scary, horrific, and intense read. When Zeolie Cheval becomes 21 years old, she gets some traumatic and unexplainable birthday presents. After several murders, the police, and the church have difficulty explaining what happened. Usually one has to see the murderer, but when there is paranormal activity, there are no set rules. New Orleans and Louisiana are a perfect setting for this story. Zeolie finds out that there have been betrayals, lies, and secrets that can harm the people close to her. There is someone so powerful determined to own Zeolie, and what powers, weapons, and magic can protect her? It was difficult putting this captivating and bewitching book down.
A story filled with magic, mystery and murder. On the eve of Zéolie's twenty-first birthday her beloved father is murdered in his bed. Things go from bad to worse when the priest who was sent to counsel her is murdered there in the house even though it's filled with police. It turns out that Zéolie's father was withholding information about her background and history that has immediate consequences for her life. The mystery of the murders intensifies along with the menacing voice in Zéolie's head. With the help of a romantic officer, a mother superior and a voodoo priestess, Zéolie must find a way to stop the murderer before they're able to obtain their ultimate goal and gain unimaginable power. Set in 1820's New Orleans, the French Quarter comes alive in this creepy, atmospheric story. Part mystery, part historical fiction and wholly enjoyable, this one kept me invested from the start. If you like your stories dark with themes of the spiritual and supernatural then I highly recommend you find this little gem of a book and enjoy reading it. . Thank you to the author, Pandamoon Publishing and Suzy Approved Book Tours for including me on this tour.
This is my first story by Ms. Nash and I must tell you, I’m hooked! Her writing is absolutely gorgeous and atmospheric; from the very first page, I felt instantly transported into a mysterious and haunting world of the old New Orleans (pun intended) where dark magic is thriving and family secrets resurface to entirely change Zéolie’s life. Zéolie was a wonderful central protagonist; together with Louis, Angelie, Mama Nell, and the others she truly turned my relaxing evening with a book into an unforgettable experience. The absolutely fascinating setting, imaginative plot, the tension that keeps growing with every new chapter - “Crescent City Moon” is a remarkable story, which I would highly recommend to all fans of the genre. Looking forward to the sequel!
"My mother, who is supposed to be dead, is a voice in my head trying to kill my friends after murdering a priest and my father, and the only one with any power to stop her is my long dead witch grandmother who talks to a nun!"
Holy Cow! Stop what you are reading and pick up this book! Nola packs in 160 pages a tale of Magic, Voodoo, witchcraft, death, mystery, romance and family secrets. The story is non stop action and I could not turn the pages fast enough to see what happens in 1820 New Orleans. Let's not forget about that lovers ending! Looking forward to the next book!
Thank you to @nolanashwrites @pandamoonpublishing and @suzyapprovedbooktours for including me on this tour.
I was drawn in by Nola Nash from the first page of “Crescent City Moon” all the way to the very last paragraph of the last chapter. Zeolie, Solene, Mama Nell and all the other colorful characters in this fantastic novel were haunting with the captivating tales of New Orleans and Voodoo Priestesses.
Many of the spine-tingling scenes left me with an eery feeling looking around to see that there were no unexpected folks in the room with me. I am anxiously waiting for next release in this mysterious thrilling series.
This has all the creeps and feels. Murder, magic and things not being what they seem. Set in New Orleans. I love books like this. A fast read. Fabulous debut. I definitely want to read more from this author.
Reading Crescent City Moon was an experience like no other. There’s nothing quite like a book set in Louisiana written by an author from here. I’ve only been to New Orleans of the late 20th century and early 21st, but I can attest to the authenticity of the environment descriptions. The humidity creating a muggy feel in the air, fighting off mosquitoes, the small town vibes even in cities — these are all qualities of southern Louisiana. Nash allowed me to FEEL 1820’s New Orleans.
As for the paranormal elements of the story, they fit the culture of New Orleans very well, especially that of an earlier time. Learning about the underbelly of New Orleans with Zéolie was a great way to introduce any necessary world rule and allowed the spooky factor to be amped up a bit by being just as clueless as poor Zéolie. I wonder what pieces of this book will continue into book two. Regardless of how little or much, I’m inclined to check out the next installment. Author Steph Post was right in saying her “debut is prefect for fans of Anne Rice”, because both Rice and Nash capture the unique essence of the Crescent City wonderfully.
Wow wow wow. Loved this book it’s unique magical and holds you to the end. Zeolite a young girl who just turned 21 years of age. But everyone is dying around her, lines are blurred between spiritual and supernatural, who is this lady she keeps hearing and saying your mine? Set in New Orleans this book is crazy good and that’s no voodoo
Crescent City Moon by debut novelist Nola Nash has a creepy vibe throughout that establishes it as a great Halloween read…or a perfect book for anyone who loves supernatural mystery, suspense, thrillers. It is set in 1820’s New Orleans and captures the essence of the French Quarter, tapping into what residents know is the special nature of their beloved city – that things happening there are taken in stride that might not be accepted anywhere else.
Like many young people in the city, Zoelie Cheval has a curiosity about the occult. She plays with Tarot cards, dabbling in fortune-telling without completely understanding all the implications, or knowing the extent and peculiar nuances of her gifts. On her 21st birthday, when her father mysteriously dies her world is shattered. Then, while the police are investigating with officers everywhere throughout her house, a priest who was called upon to give last rights is also killed, and the stage is set for the kind of mystery you know is going to hold your attention for as long as it takes to reach the conclusion.
Nash seasons her realistic dialogue with well-placed French expressions and colorful descriptions of the settings. Always there is ample attention given to the arcane aspects of the plot, which straddle a line between real and surreal. Magic, though doubted at first, becomes increasingly real, and its limitations play a part in the resolution of the story, as well as its underpinnings in the balance of natural forces.
There is also a compelling love story developing in the background as Zoelie is attracted to the handsome and gallant Louis who labors to resolve the growing series of murders while protecting the young lady who is constantly in peril. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and look forward to the next in the series.
Review is based on a copy supplied by the publisher in exchange for an honest appraisal.
Crescent City Moon by Nola Nash Publication Date: Oct. 30, 2019 Pages: 163 Available on Kindle Unlimited Witches and Demons, Murder and Maiming, oh my, you’ve just entered Nola Nash’s world in New Orleans 1820s. This book absolutely breaks the genre rules and falls into my I don’t know what I just read but I absolutely loved it category. I think I saw this is book 1 in a series and let me tell you know I’m watching for book 2.
the atmosphere was haunting, the characters were truly ‘characters’. The main character is Zéolie was turning 21 and having her big party when the chaos ensued. It began with the murder of her father in his bed, where he was horribly mangled and contorted and no stab or bullet wounds were found. No one heard a sound. Next came the priest that arrives offer her father’s last rites. He falls dead shortly after entering the room, very similar to her father. How are the police or Zéolie supposed to catch a killer no one can see?
The story takes you from the French Quarter to the Ninth Ward, the Ursuline Convent and a special young nun, Angelle that may have answers for Zéolie. Then deep into the Louisiana swamps to meet a voodoo priestess, and the Ursuline Convent and a special young nun, Angelle that may have answers for Zéolie. Apparently there are many secrets in Zéolie’s parents life she didn’t know and the secrets are deadly.
I don’t want to say too much. I absolutely loved this story, and the end left me gasping and a bit sad. If you love New Orleans, witches, voodoo and a dark haunting story pick this one up! I highly recommend.
Thank you to @suzyapprovedbooktours and @nolanash for my copy of the book to review.
Well, I was going to wait until tomorrow to write this review because I stayed up way too late to finish this book. But I'm not going to be able to sleep for a while as the experience I just went through needs to settle in my mind before I can drop off into a peaceful slumber. This book grabs you from the beginning. Spooky. Surreal. Unbelievably taut and tense from start to finish. This first installment in the Crescent City series set in New Orleans in the early 1800's introduces us to Zeolie Cheval who sees unspeakable things happen to her father on the eve of her twenty-first birthday. How does she stop this evil force that is now coming for her? As I was reading, I had to remind myself to breathe. And forget about putting it down. It wasn't going to happen. So I'm hoping that talking about my reaction to this story, so engrossing and deliciously scary, will help me sleep the way I did last night. You know. Before reading this book. Back when I didn't have to look around corners and turn on lights before stepping into rooms I knew by heart on those dark nights before this. (Were they really this dark before??) I think I will probably be okay. But maybe I need to start the second book in the series instead. Yeah. I think that's what I need to do. But with the house alarm on. And all the lights. Thanks, Nola Nash, for the signed copy of an exquisitely written story that I will be thinking about for a long time to come. (But I hope not too long. Because of, well you know, sleep.)
This was a quick and wonderful read. It’s perfectly paced and filled with action – hardly a page flips without something happening or something revealed. This book drew me in and held me as if I was under a spell. The descriptions of 1820s New Orleans are beautiful; verging on the poetic, but the dialog is snappy and fits the characters personalities. The characters are wonderful, even the evil ones, and the book gives you a nice portrait of New Orleans during the 1820s.
Crescent City Moon mixes romance, mystery, family saga, paranormal, and historical themes, and they all work together very well. It is not, however, a happy book. There’s a lot of death in this short novel, and the ending has overtones of Romeo and Juliet. It is not graphic in any way. It’s primarily the story of a young woman who faces great loss, learns family secrets, and finds love at the same time.
I’ve been meaning to read this book for a long time. I’m happy that I finally had the chance. It did not disappoint, and I look forward to reading the second book in this series.
About the Book: It’s New Orleans in the 1820s and Zéolie Cheval is planning to celebrate her 21st birthday. But instead of an extravagant party, Zéolie is dealing with the horrific death of her father, Julien.
The death of Julien is at the hands of Zéolie’s mom, Solène, who becomes a voice in Zéolie’s head, is an evil witch, and did not die in childbirth as Zéolie always thought.
Zéolie finds out about her ancestry, falls for Officer Louis Saucier, and becomes surrounded by people who try to help her stop her murdering and controlling mother.
My Thoughts:
My favorite part of this book is the IMAGERY. This literary device is so amazingly portrayed throughout this book that it notches up a traditional creepy read.
The flow of the story, the variety of New Orleans settings, the French phrases and names also added to my reading enjoyment.
Finally, the creepy factor and the surprising conclusion was just what I was looking for!
Thank you to the author and Suzy approved book tours for the chance to read and share my thoughts!
From your nightmares comes a force that threatens to change your entire world. Nola Nash’s heroine in the ghostly tale “Crescent City Moon” faces such incredible power from someone she thought long dead!
On the eve of what should have been one of the happiest times of her life, a young woman is assailed by another she thought had gone so many years before, one you’d think would have no harmful intentions. Lost and confused she finds help from others, some of whom have secrets yet to tell! One young man stands steadfastly by her, can he be her hero?
Nash hooked me early on in the story with her dynamic visuals she uses so aptly in her book. Her ability to draw one into her tale and have them gripping from one page to the next was brilliant! Nash clearly knew here subjects with the detail she gave on everyday life and the feel of New Orleans.
If you see a copy of this book, hold on to it all the way to the checkout, you’ll be sad if you don’t!!!
The ending of this book was good enough for me to elevate my rating from two to three stars. But the first three quarters is a chore. A young woman is targeted by her mother, now a vicious and demonic spirit. The mother was, in life, a powerful witch but developed serious mental illness. Eager to take her daughters powers she unleashes a string of murders. a handsome young police officer falls madly in love with the beautiful young woman. It drags on predictably but picks up at the end.
It is hard to go wrong with a horror story set in New Orleans. However, the story, though set in olden times, that is before automobiles, phones and other niceties feels contemporary. There is some sense of place but not enough of time. The characters are one dimensional. The romance is unconvincing largely because there is nothing other than physical attraction. Still, a fun quarantine read. 2.5 stars rounded up to three.
Book Review: Crescent City Moon by author, Nola Nash
A gripping read that keeps coming at you!
Crescent City Moon~ a unique storyline full of magic, suspense and the paranormal that kept me wondering what could possibly be coming next!
The author has crafted a tale of mystery and history that seeps and creeps under the skin with its rituals and spirits that are genuinely chilling. Spine-tingling haunts along with romance, secrets and revenge will hold you under a spell with its diverse characters whose lives are far from normal.
Crescent City Moon is a frightening yet captivating journey into the dark corners of Old New Orleans during the 1800s with its colorful descriptions and a healthy dose of voodoo, witchcraft and mystique. A powerful read that won't let go until the last page!
Crescent City Moon is a great example of a historical mystery/thriller read. Set in 1820s New Orleans, it's a fast read involving witchcraft, voodoo, magic, and cursed bloodlines. On Zeolie’s twenty first birthday, her father is found horrifically murdered. When the police come to investigate and a priest is called for last rights, he is also murdered in a full house. With questions about an empty family crypt and her parents deaths, she must learn to deal with past family secrets. With a wonderful description of the French Quarter and an engrossing story this was a very fast read. I give this 4 of 5 stars and enjoyed it so much I have already purchased the sequel! Thank you to Suzy’s Approved Book Tours and Nola Nash for the review copy of this book, my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Zéolie discovers her father’s dead body on the eve of her twenty first birthday. After this discovery, a priest is also discovered murdered. Zéolie realizes her father has lied to her her whole life. It is up the her to discover all the secrets and how to tame them!
You talk about creepy! Witches and graveyards in New Orleans…I mean…what is not creepy about that! This novel is classified as a paranormal story. That is usually not my genre. And I would classify this as a witch story with a little paranormal thrown in. What drew me to this story is the setting of New Orleans and the cover. And it did not disappoint!
Need a good paranormal witch story which is set in one of the witchiest cities in the USA…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!
I received this novel from the author for a honest review.
What a fantastic read! Set in the French Quarter of New Orleans, the perfect atmosphere for this kind of story. Witchcraft, a voodoo priestess, and that all around spooky ritual feel. Pulls you right in and holds you tight for the entire ride.
On her 21st birthday, Zèolie wakes to her worst nightmare. She has this disembodied voice in her head and is on the verge of losing her mind. She's taken to a convent for her own protection and to find out what's happening to her. She learns that her mother was a witch who is now haunting her and Zèolie makes it her mission to stop this madness before anyone else suffers.
Very atmospheric! I love stories set in New Orleans and this one was top notch!
Wow what a suspenseful thriller Crescent City Moon was! If you are looking for something haunting, then I recommend this one! It is one of those stories that as long as you let yourself get lost in it, you will find it fast paced and be totally drawn in until the end!
This story takes us back to the 1820’s, deep into the Louisiana swamps. Zeolie becomes caught up in her father’s murder right before her 21st birthday. She works with Officer Louis and they are soon drawn into the Ursuline Convent, and things go from being real to being supernatural. What really happened? Is there more to Zoelie than she even she realizes? As she starts to uncover family secrets, she knows things are about to get crazy! And there is a second book that I'm counting down the days to!
How could I say no to a book tour when the authors name is NOLA and the book is set in New Orleans!?
Today I bring you CRESCENT CITY MOON by @nolanashwrites. This book is super short and engaging. Weighing in at 176 pages you will fly right through.
Do you love NOLA, witches, magic, and a bit of romance? This book is for you.
NOLA really places you in antebellum New Orleans. Such a vivid and atmospheric picture. I’ve caught myself avoiding certain areas of the city since I’ve read this book. All the creepy feels.
Get your hands on this one. I will drop the synopsis in the comments for you guys to check out.
Thank you @suzyapprovedbooktours @nolanashwrites and @pandamoonpublishing for the gifted book.
I was drawn to this book because I am and have always been intrigued by cemeteries and the stories they hold. I have visited the very unique and haunting cemeteries of New Orleans and was held under their spells - full of history and hints of the paranormal! So, I jumped into this book quickly!! WOW, I would NOT want to live in author, Nola Nash’s, head LOL! The writing was incredible and drew me right in - but - I’m not sure I wanted to be where it took me! In all honesty it was a very well written book but just a bit dark for me - but that’s just me.
This book has all the creepy vibes that are perfect when it’s storming out. I will say I’m a wimp when it comes to “scary” books but I loved this book and already grabbed the second in the series.
It’s set in 1820’s New Orleans and Zeolie immediately gave me all the vibes of unknowingly being a medium. Her father mysteriously dies the night before her 22st birthday, which sets her into a tailspin of lies he told her. I loved this book and the mysterious pieces Zeolie had to out together. Very well written and gripping.
1820s New Orleans comes to vibrant life in this supernatural YA thriller set against the backdrop of voodoo and dark, Louisiana swamps. Readers will find themselves rooting for heroine Zeolie as she searches for answers in the death of her father. The love story is also believable, and I found myself falling just a little bit in love with Officer Saucier. The action is fast-paced, and I found myself turning the pages quickly to see what happened. Nash is a debut author not to be missed!
Set in New Orleans where rumors of witchcraft are part of it’s history, but when it becomes reality, can good win against devil even when it is Zeolies own mother that she is fighting against. She is inexperienced in using her powers, but they are all she has to save the ones she loves. Can her grandmother help her win this family battle? I definitely recommend reading it. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Nola Nash spins a fabulously scary tale and brings the reader into a world of interesting characters for a tantalizing and exciting ride! So glad there will be a Book Two! Suggest all read Book One now so they'll be ready... (would like to add scary music here but don't think the site is set up for that - so boooahhh, shiver shiver!
