The multiverse's greatest detective returns! When left for a weekend trip, Mr. Poe finds himself searching for a missing clock containing the infernal soul of Ronald Hickenbotham, a not-so-remarkable warlock and beloved husband. The clock needs to be wound every three days to preserve Ronald's soul. It's already been gone for over twenty-four hours. Mr. Poe can hear the clock's tell tale ticking throughout Haven, but can a werehuman kitten psychic detective solve the mystery before Ronald is lost forever?
Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.
If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a wicked cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- http://smarturl.it/armyofevil
“Let it be said that birth means nothing and there is no challenge a dedication to brilliance can’t overcome. I am a testament to this truth: born under a patio, raised in a box, and given nothing except a scratching post and feather on a string. Only through sheer doggedness could I become the infamous Mr. Poe.”
Supernatural criminals beware, for the disgustingly cute, abominably endearing, cunningly quick-witted, wondrously clairvoyant and deliciously cocky werehuman feline Sherlock is prowling Haven’s streets once again!
That’s Mr Poe alright.
A missing clock + an infernal soul + neutering shenanigans and the importance of penes and testicles (don’t ask) + the transcendence of lycanthropy + undetected hijinks + the superiority of the feline form vs. the pathetically gangly noncat form + lectures by magical eight-month-olds = me despicably feeling a teensy little bit like this:
Ew, ugh and gross.
➽ Nefarious Last Words (NLW™): S.M. Reine, you made me enjoy TWO Abominable Cozy Mystery-Type Thingies (ACMTT™) in a row. I officially surrender. You bloody shrimping WIN, you evil woman you.
Yoooouuuuu guys! Mr. Poe is definitely the best, smartest, most perfect boy in the world. Definitely. Not only is he staggeringly brilliant (he most certainly is!) and sweetly fluffy (so much fluff!), he can sniff out (or hear out, as the case may be) the perpetrators of crime in Haven.
AND HE'S SO MUCH FUN!
Seriously. He really is. He tags along with Sheriff Gwyn Gresham (beloved zombie and boredom destroyer of cats far and wide) when she goes to investigate the disappearance of a beloved keepsake. While he was a great help on this case (as you would expect), she also did it to keep him out of trouble. And because he's irresistibly adorable.
For those who don't know, this series ties into the Descentverse and all the crazy that goes on there, but Mr. Poe's books are much MUCH lighter. He's a fantastic cat, as you know, and he won't allow any of those world-ending shenanigans in HIS Haven.
Let's face it, just like everyone else he comes across, Mr. Poe has charmed me to pieces. that brilliant, fluffy, perfect boy.
I adore Mr. Poe, but then, who doesn’t? He’s the perfect feline and such a good boy, but when his owners leave him behind he seeks out a way to find some company. Who better to keep him busy than Sheriff Gwyn, especially when there’s a mystery to solve. It works out even better because she’s the only one who knows Mr. Poe’s secret – he can change into a human, even though he prefers his much more attractive and graceful feline form.
The Tell Tale Cat is a short, sweet romp in SM Reine’s Descentverse. The Psychic Cat Mysteries is much lighter than the rest of the books in this world, but no less entertaining. It’s fun to see familiar characters through different eyes. I can even forgive him for his opinion of Cèsar (who happens to be one of my favorites) 😉
The next book in the series is The Masque of the Red Cat (don’t you just love the play on the titles from another famous Mr. Poe?) and I just so happen to have it ready and waiting to be read.
Another cute little number about a cat that helps solve yet another mystery. Better than the first good to read when you are in an easily distracting circumstance (car passenger for yet another day in this case) but not that exceptional or original except for the worldbuilding characteristics of the snippy little MC. Athough it does draw on the Descentiverse background, always good. Recommended for when you have read something really heavy and need some relief.
Once again I was not disappointed. Me. Poe’s antics kept a smile on my face throughout the story. Reine has a way of keeping you on the edge even with a cat attempting to act like a boy, but not quite getting there and solving a mystery in the process. I cannot imagine a better way to spend an evening. Especially when an author is as talented as Reine is bringing you into the story and making you feel a part of it, not just watching it.
I am looking forward to the next book and will most likely read it tomorrow night. I highly recommend this book.
I am such a fan of Mr. Poe! I love this storyline. This is a very short, sweet, cozy mystery that is beyond enjoyable. The writer truly understands and “gets” cats, she obviously loves them. So much of what was described was spot-on perfect as far as cat behavior and I loved it. Nothing makes me more mad than someone “throwing” a cat into a cozy when the author obviously has never been owned by a feline. This is not that type of book! The stories are very short but Mr. Poe makes them worthwhile.
As a cat Mr Poe is more than handsome and purrrfect in everyway ( his noncat Mummies tell him so ) but as a shapeshifting detective he is second only to Sheriff Gresham can they solve this case and keep his secret safe like they have before ... find out with novella you won't be sorry .
Mr. Poe has another mystery to solve while his mummies are away. When the mummies are away, this cat wants to play, and shift and solve crimes. This short novella is a pleasure to read and much nicer than the Tell Tale Heart.
Another cute story about Mr. Poe, and not just because of the POV, but the story in itself. It was such a real problem, I feel sorry for the character. Well written and good pacing. And I grinned at the last chapter. NYAG!
Mr. Poe helps solve another mystery. This time the cute festival setting and Poe's obsession with not having his penis cut off gave me plenty to smile about. The writing is just fun and never wavers from a cat's perspective.
A delightful little series! So glad I decided to give this a look-see! Mr. Pie makes me smile with his antics. Am looking forward to reading future books in this series. Very enjoyable and interesting!
I love Mr Poe! I have known kittens like him, and I love the way he learns new things as he's starting to grow out of kittenhood. I've read the first two books and can't wait for more.
I enjoyed this 2nd book in the series. Having a cat become a boy and not the other way around makes it interesting. Mr Poe really needs to tell his mamas the truth :)
Mr Poe is more then a cat. He is an aspiring detective who can transform into a human. With the help of Sheriff Gwyn he solves a case and gets to experience more of the noncat world.
Another lighthearted story about the werehuman cat detective. A lovely, easy to read short book. Hoping Mr Poe continues to delight us with his adventures
