This wasn't one of those where the cover won me over... instead it was the title & the blurb that pulled me in and refused to let go. When I think "Fear", it took me back to one of my fav movies (ya'll know that movie) & I had high hopes this would tell a different twisted romance yet still be worthy of using this title. Maybe my expectations were unrealistic again, but this read was borderline ridiculous. If you are a Batman fan, this book will be right up your alley.... but for those of you like me, it was the BDSM version of Batman and it wasn't a good version either.

Book Facts: Told in dual POV, this dark standalone romance features BDSM (& extreme punishment) and a HEA. Forced to take her with him, he will introduce her to a world she never knew existed....... where pleasure meets pain & punishments come with the greatest rewards. Starting: I will never be able to see "Fear" & not think Mark Wahlberg & Reese Witherspoon.
8%: There are way too many references that remind me of Batman... and I do not want to envision Batman as my antihero lol.
22%: Well at least they don't waste time....
27%: I thought I would never say something like this, but I kinda want to get back to the plot now. Please don't make this one of those books that completely overuse the bedroom.
33%: Learn something new everyday.... toothpaste? Would have never thought of it in that way!
40%: Alright now is the time for story redemption.... let's please get back to the plot.
49%: Didn't even get 10% of a "story".... instead just right back to it with these two.
51%: You know the warning signs for someone who might not need to be a submissive? She is one of them, since she consciously does whatever it takes to be punished....
56%: OMG eye rolling something serious right now....you haven't even had a true legitimate conversation!
61%: Finally we are getting back to the plot. If only I knew it would last.

Loves from Books: Liam's back story (its interesting), Liam's dad, pretty much Liam, (although completely ridiculous) the gadgets used at the end, the coconut excitement.
Hates from Books: "little girl"(bc of how much its used), the constant repetition/overuse of words, Sofia's dad, lack of a deep connection, the inauthentic feel of the entire book.

Final Thoughts (in "Five"):
1. There is a ton of repetition in facts & details in every scene in the book. The same descriptive words used over and over (ex. naughtiest hole, naughty girl, sassy girl, bottom hole, tight little hole, most reluctant channel etc). It didn't bother me as much at first, but the further you go along it gets to be a little excessive. I have never seen the phrase "I wanted to come again" more than I have in the first 30% in this book.
2. At about 30% I was leaning towards the DNF pile because this felt like it had very little point. I started off with excitement & a good "foundation" but soon took a sharp turn into smut for the sake of smut.....20% of the first 30% is nothing but every dirty & filthy thing two people can do together which I'm normally okay with, except I like a little story with it too.
3. Something about the way BDSM is portrayed in this book rubs me the wrong way. How she purposefully disobeyed to get punished, yet he punishes her anyways without recognizing the warning signs that come with those types of "submissives" (especially since she isn't a practicing one). Or the intensity & frequency of his punishments, which should have been far out of anything she could handle. **Spoiler:** Within a 24 hr period she goes through intense spanking, whipping with belt, caning, forced orgasms (like dozens), very rough first time in both bottom & oral, along with some other unique painful punishments....its absolutely ridiculous. It didn't get more erotic until towards the end.
4. The author missed so many opportunities with this story. The plot that started the book was promising, yet it was just used as a starting point. There was no authentic connection before the "falling" happened, so it made it impossible to invest in their love story. I will admit that after 70% it goes back to the story this is centered around, but it takes a lot of patience to get there.
5. I realize it is fiction, but the fun thing about romance novels is the realistic parts of it that we can connect to. In the end, its so unrealistic I felt like I was reading how Batman & Catwoman came to be (so to speak).
Overall, I really wanted to like this book and at times I did. But ultimately, it just came up lacking in so many ways. From the inauthenticity of their connection, to the constant repetition of facts & phrases---I found myself rolling my eyes more than actually enjoying what I was reading. Like I say in all my "negative" reviews, this could be your new fav read.... but for me? It was one I felt was a waste of time.

Sophia was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Liam came to seek his revenge and now Sophia is his. This is a fast-paced read with loads of drama, and steamy intense chemistry. Sophia may have been a spoiled little rich girl but now that she belongs to Liam, he will discipline her as he sees fit. Great characters and a dark, scorching read. I loved it!

This was good for the spanking and dubcon pron. The actual story was ridiculous. Basically Batman type billionaire is kinky and he is also Joker style homicidal and lucky for him, he kidnaps the perfect woman that is also kinky and is also Harley Quin style homicidal.
If I look past the stupid plot, I felt like the sex scenes were pretty hot for what this type of book is.
I need to add that for those looking for realistic spanky, kinky, dubcon, won't really find this here. These woman are pretty brutally spanked (in some cases, caned, etc) and the only residual injury is usually a pink/red ass. No bruising, no bleeding, no first aid needed, no problem sitting or laying on their back and getting their "bottom holes" f*cked, (maybe slightly uncomfortable) and every orgasm after orgasm "tears her world apart" bigger than the one before and the one before that and the one before that and the one before that... you get the picture.

October 20, 2019I'm not rating this because it's not really a book: it's a series of erotic, non-consensual quasi-BDSM scenes (though the H doesn't harm the h and she is aroused by the treatment) held together by a razor-thin plot, featuring characters whose motivations, behavior, and dialogue are so absurd that it was impossible to take this book seriously. Which is fine and if you're looking for straight-up porn, this is absolutely the book for you (and this isn't a criticism; sometimes that's all you want). For me, though, I like a fully-fleshed out story and characters with some depth to ground the erotica. So, it wasn't for me; I can see how others may enjoy it.
This is my first Sara Fields book and while I know she's a popular author with others, for all the reasons I said above, I don't think I'll try her again.

I love to read this author’s books, especially when I am in the mood for a dark, dark Alpha male who takes complete control over his female, who gives her (and us!) lots of flaming, wicked, dirty smut and lots of punishments until said female is helplessly, hopelessly lost in his dominance. And I got all of that in her latest book, Fear. Plus the MC was a well-connected businessman and tech expert, with his fingers in several different pies, who had some of the highest level of technology at his fingertips, particularly high-tech weaponry. He was sort of a cross between Elon Musk and Tony Stark but minus the Ironman flying suit. The FC was a butt-kicking, krav maga-trained spitfire, who knew how to handle knives and was a marksman in her own right, and who thought she was not going to take any guff from him. I loved them both. A little bird had told me the author was a teensy bit worried because Fear was outside of her usual genre a bit, being a contemporary romance story, but I think the book was fantastic and I hope we get more like this. Fear was a great story and very hot: 5 stars.

I had a hard time putting words to what I felt while and after I read Fear. It was disturbing on a number of fronts but also was dark and delicious on others. So I think I am coming down in the middle on this book by Sara Fields. I am just going to say that if you like Sara Fields darker and abusive story-lines then you will most likely like this Fear also. But if such material disturbs you in any way, including kidnapping, beating disguised as punishment and other things then you will not like this book.

This was a great story. It was well written and fast paced. The chemistry between the characters was sizzling hot. This book has everything you need to keep you turning pages hot sexy men, steamy scenes and some conflict thrown in. I cannot wait for what this author writes next.

This was a decent Erotic Read.
The storyline itself was/is not a focal point, where the erotic sex scenes were.
There is a lot of Sex in this and it may not appeal to some readers but I happened to not mind it. But I wish the Storyline was more impressive, because it just wasn’t up to par.
Dark(?): 0/5, I wish it was Dark, but (to me) it just wasn’t dark at any point.
Heat: 3.5-4ish/5, But is like to Lean more on the 4. Though there was so much spanking that I was ‘ehhhh-ing’ when I read it, so it kinda dimmed the Erotic feel.
Suspense: 1.5/5
Drama: 2.5/5

Really disappointing
This was very unbelievable and I just didn't like it Liam kidnapped Sophia because she was in the wrong place wrong time sort of thing. When she sees him she goes all crazy tries to claw his eye balls out and he manages to easily subdue her and put her in his trunk and take her away. Well towards the end of the book Liam explains to her why he had taken her and it turned out his father was murdered by her father because he wouldn't pay for protection. Then he told her he had found out her father also killed her mother, so she went from this week submissive little girl to this hard a$$ Biatch saying we kill them all. It was really bad especially when he says he found out his Sophia turned out to be a excellent marksman and had studied Krav Maga and so Liam and Sophia take out over 30 men by them selves totally unbelievable and Liam is suppose to be some hi-tech genius and he's got liquid metal that can seal a door shut and a gadget that creates a magnetic field that is bullet proof???? Seriously this should have been some kind of sci-fi romance with this kind of talk I mean really come on the book was a total flop in my opinion and in reality no woman could literally withstand that amount of punishment she took a ton of swats by his hand then a belt two different times and then in less then 24 hours she had him Caning her behind absolutely no way get real lady if this sounds interesting to you then by all means go ahead but to me I would say save your self some time and find something better

This is fiction, and normally I am ok with stretching the fabric of reality, but this book might go to far. Liam catches Sophie off guard in her bedroom while he is trying to take out he father. Sophie scratches at him and screams. He takes her hostage and proceeds to force multiple orgasms from her... at least 20. I mean come on 20 Orgasms in around 5 hours? Without her being extremely sensitive to the point of real pain or incoherent? I think not. Also (possible spoiler) we find out towards the end she is an excellent gunman and was taught Krav Maga by masters.... yet when she is caught in her room she scratches at him and doesn’t try to fight him at all?? I found myself skipping bits of the naughty scenes...

Meh
The book had a good concept. You don’t see much character growth. There was no growth to the plot. The author basically put the whole plot out there the first couple pages.
There is a ridiculous amount of sex scenes. For every 2 or 3 pages of actual like background or plot building, there are 6-8 pages of sex scenes. The beginning one is the longest which seems like 10+ pages. You can finish the book fast if you skip over them because they get very repetitive.
The ending was ok I guess.
For this being the first book I read by here, it doesn’t make me want to read anymore.

There is a ridiculous amount of sex scenes. For every 2 or 3 pages of actual like background or plot building, there are 6-8 pages of sex scenes. The beginning one is the longest which seems like 10+ pages. You can finish the book fast if you skip over them because they get very repetitive.
The ending was ok I guess.
For this being the first book I read by here, it doesn’t make me want to read anymore.

I’ve read a lot of Sara Fields and that’s why when she releases a new book, I know I’m in for a fun and engaging read. Her writing style is smooth and relaxed, allowing me to slip into her world effortlessly and enjoy a few hours away from home. This book, Fear, is another one of those enjoyable stories. I liked the characters and the plot held my attention the entire time.
This is the story of Liam and Sophia. Liam wants revenge on Sophia’s father for a murder in his family and because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time Sophia gets caught up in the intrigue. The story let’s loose from there and what a fun and smexy ride it is.

Readers interested in a dark romance with knife play and extreme domination will feel right at home with this book. It gives the lover of this type of romance book exactly what it promises, but it was short on the romance. I did not care for the characters. The book went straight to the sex, which I was okay with, but it did not build a real connection between the two lovers. I wanted to like them. I wanted to care about them, but I could not and that was my problem with this book.
It was well-written and the author knows how to move a story forward with ease. I would have liked more character development in the beginning of the book to really enjoy the story.

Liam was there to kill Leonardo Mancini. He almost succeeded if not for Sofia, Leonardo’s daughter. She is spoiled and sassy. He just needs to know if she saw him. Let me tell you, the punishment that she goes through, OMG, I feel sore. And it wasn’t even me. I squirmed a bit in my seat just reading it. Oh there was hot, deep sex but there is some pain. I wasn’t sure as to what was going to happen next. I did want to scream at Sofia. And Sara must have done some serious research. We don’t just go for the simple stuff. We are now exploring EVERYTHING. I was holding my breath during some parts. This was intense.

As she has seen him, he is left with no choice but to capture her.....there begins a dark romance based on heat, heat and more heat! A fast paced fantasy read with a dominating alpha male. Sophia’s character did not hold quite as much appeal for me, especially towards the end where I found her attitude arrogant and couldn’t quite buy into her thirst for revenge or ability to execute the plans without any trauma. Still found to be an enjoyable read.

Holy Moley!!! Sara Fields is one of my one-click authors but there was nothing that had prepared me for Liam and Sophia's tale. Liam's father had been executed when he was very young. He knew who did it and intended to have his vengeance. Instead of killing the man responsible he winds up kidnapping the man's daughter. Are you intrigued yet? You should be. There's dubious consent, a chemistry hot enough to melt your kindle, it's erotic, vengeful, and there's tenderness. This was such an intriguing read I couldn't put it down until it was finished and I still wanted more, it was that good. Congratulations Sara Fields on your five-star review.

This is a fast-paced mafia romance that really surprised me with the ending. I didn't see that coming at all. Liam is out for revenge. Sophia is in the wrong place at the wrong time. And that is where the fireworks begin... This is a dark, steamy read that will leave you hot and bothered. There are also moments of tenderness that balance out all that darkness. Ms. Fields is very creative when it comes to the dark. She always pushes the limit and keeps me begging for more. Her characters are interesting, the plots are enjoyable, she doesn't shy away from things others might find taboo, and her words create beautiful images in my imagination.

OMG!! I have no words! Sara Fields has completely left me speechless and wanting more! I expect steam, dominance and so much desire from anything Sara writes. But this book goes beyond all of that. The power of this book is so intense. Suspense adds to every steamy scene. Being captured is Sara's signature, but I have never read a kidnapping like this one. It starts out fast and hot and ends leaving the characters and reader wanting more. Sofia and Liam discover they are perfect together as they fight for what they feel is right. They take on the Italian Mafia and still find time for sex! I loved every word and I hope there are many more in this series!
