Recorrido sintético, pero detallado, por todos los aspectos de la China antigua. Se trata de un libro muy recomendable para obtener un conocimiento básico acerca de temas como las religiones, la cerámica, la arquitectura, los espíritus, las distintas dinastías, la muerte... Se compila un sinfín de información variada y concisa para acercanos a esta cultura tan vasta y rica. Ha sido una lectura muy interesante que me ha permitido recordar (con cierta morriña) aquellos sitios que he visitado y aquellos que tenía previsto visitar, pero que se quedan en mi lista vital de pendientes.
El libro, además de ser informativo ya de por sí, está perfectamente referenciado y expone de manera clara todas sus fuentes. De este modo ofrece al lector curioso una gran variedad de recursos en caso de que desee ampliar sus conocimientos; incluso se recomiendan galerías concretas de museos de todo el mundo con colecciones dedicadas a objetos chinos.
La única pega que le pondría a esta obra es la ausencia total de caracteres chinos. En múltiples ocasiones se incluye el pinyin de algún término y, en verdad, me hubiera gustado ver el caracter original para asociar mejor los conceptos. Supongo que esto se debe a que buscaban facilitar al máximo el contacto con una cultura tan ajena a la nuestra.
