Another great edition. Still in the episodes that are available on Netflix but I feel this book adds depth that the show doesn't. I can't wait for the new stuff though.

3.5 stars. I love this manga series so much, but this has been my least favorite volume so far. I feel bad about the rating, but that's how I truly feel about this one.

I really liked the story about how Tamaki and Koyoya met. It's the first real story where we get more insight into Kyoya's motivation and personality. I really like his relationship with Tamaki.
We get more on Mori's influence in this story with Bossa Nova's character. I liked how Haruhi found a way to relate to him the way she understands everyone else. She remains my favorite character.
The test of courage story didn't do much for me. The bits that involve the occult/dark magic characters are my 2nd least favorite parts of the series. (My absolute least favorite parts are the side stories about the creepy teacher grooming his student).
Perhaps the least interesting volume so far for me overall, but I really liked the Kyoya/Tamaki story.

Haruhi's and the twins' class is having a test of courage! The class pres, the twins, and Haruhi are all on a team.
In the anime, this is combined with the Halloween episode. I like both versions. It's funny when Haruhi and Hikaru get trapped in the net and then rush to find Kaoru.
I think it's cute how Hikaru likes Haruhi but doesn't really realize it. Watching the twins become kinder because of Haruhi is one of my favorite storylines. It's so sweet.
We travel back in time to when Kyoya met Tamaki. And what a whirlwind it was! (This is another one of my favorite plots, Kyoya pretends to be all cold, but he really does care about Tamaki.)
Mori gets an apprentice! Ritsu Kasanoda is the son of a major Yakuza family and has a scary face, but he wants people to like him. He's really a softie, it's just his darn face!
Mori and the club take pity on him, but it's really Haruhi and his friend that help him. There is trouble afoot, though, when Ritsu discovers Haruhi's secret!
I loved this part in the book, it was so funny how Tamaki reacted.

A lot of comedy in this volume that actually made me laugh, sometimes from the smallest of details.
In this volume, the only serious bits were Kyoya's backstory for how he met Tamaki, and then at the end when, after meeting Bossa Nova, for just the barest of moments Tamaki's...er...feelings are called out, albeit indirectly and very subtly. It's the first indication of any serious psychological developments for him and for the emotional aspect of the plot for main pairings and whatnot, though, of course, there's still a lot to get through before we come to that.
Apart from that, I'd called this the "Bossa Nova Volume", as maybe 2-3 chapters focus on him and his interactions with the host club.
Once again, a great read, a fun time, and a pleasant evening re-reading this.

Meh. This was another dud for me. On the one hand, the series has a bit more depth and its interesting to see both how the host club members became friends as well as how their friendships are evolving and changing. However, I miss the screwball comedy. It's not happening as often as it used to. I did like the end when they are helping out a tough guy make new friends just because it got back to the actual host club.

Me encantó la historia de casanova-kun jajaja y conocer un poco más y entender la relación de amistad que tienen Tamaki y Kyoya <3, esto último se llevó el broche de oro en este tomo.

This volume was thoroughly enjoyable! ^^
Everything from learning about Kyoya and Tamaki's background/how they met- to how they ended up starting the host club (despite their big personality differences- and Kyoya looking down on Tamaki), to the mini arc with Ritsu Casanova.
I honestly enjoyed Ritsu's story so much, I kinda wish he became a reoccurring character- especially with his dynamic with Haruhi. I think he honestly might be my favorite character in the whole series (besides Haruhi) I love how straight laced and genuine he is with everything he does.

The episodes in this volume were a lot of fun! We started out with the episode the goodreads synopsis explains up above. Hikaru and Kaoru are their typical mischievous selves, and I love them.
We then get more information on Kyoya’s backstory/friendship with Tamaki. It’s funny how Tamaki has literally never changed throughout his years at school. He’s such a special cinnamon roll.
My favorite episodes of the volume were those with Kasanoda. I felt so bad for him because he just wants to have friends and love animals but everyone is afraid of him because of his scary face.
The scary episode and Kyoya episode were just missing some oomph in my opinion. Hunny and Mori weren’t in this volume too much, and I missed them. I like it when everything is balanced. I’m still loving these volumes though. Fantastic.

The amount of laughter I snorted through this volume makes me dizzy; they’re simply too chaotic! (｡ ⪰∀⪯）
I love that we got the backstory of how Tamaki and Kyoya started becoming close. It’s funny and endearing how Kyoya was just pissed off with Tamaki all the time (he still is) but somehow Tamaki made him open up (which basically just meant Kyoya channelled his evil aura more openly). The dynamic between these two are just too fun to watch 🖤🤍
And I know Tamaki has always been a darling fool, but for him to still not realise his true feelings towards Haruhi after all that had happened… oh dear.

I love the focus on Mori and Kyoya on this volume. I love the part where we get a glimpse of how very dense and innocent Tamaki is with regards to his own feelings, which Kaoru seems to have an idea about. But Honey and Mori seems to have realized more than the rest do. Such a cute volume and they were so beautifully drawn when they were wearing traditional clothing.

While Tamaki is a great and funny character, I'd want to strangle him if it was possible to meet him in real life. He's so over the top and I'd be so annoyed with him I couldn't be anywhere near him. His level of willful cluelessness is also very impressive. I also feel so bad for Kasanoda, you have to be desperate to go to the host club for advice.
