Joining the Collectors Division was my only goal once the orphanage washed their hands of me at the age of twelve.
Unruly and quick to anger, I was taken in by an academy instructor until I was old enough to attend myself. With love and understanding I thrived, and it became my mission to be the best Guardian the Collectors Division had ever seen. I couldn’t
wait to run the Gauntlet and join a team.

Little did I know what fate had in store for me.

Guardian is a reverse harem novel and contains MM and FF. Not recommended for those under 18

I DNF'd this book, and I’m really disappointed in this author; I'm going to have a hard time reading anything else she writes. This is all based on her ‘Author's Note’ that was written at the beginning of the book. This bitch talks down to and is condescending towards anyone who needs a trigger warning. Ummm, what? Calling someone who has survived abuse or needs a trigger warning to protect their mental health a ‘special snowflake’ in your author's note is a way to lose readers. I’m going to copy and paste her note so you all can read it.

“The author’s husband has asked for her to say that no marriages were harmed in the making of this novel. Also, much to the author’s disappointment, nor do any of the situations reflect real-life experiences. To all the readers who like to be surprised in their books and do not require trigger warnings or cliff-hanger warnings, please skip the next page and continue to chapter one. To all the special snowflakes who need a heads up, continue onto the next page.”

“Author’s Note (Snowflake Edition) This book is a Reverse Harem. The main female character will end up with more than one partner. There will be multiple sex scenes throughout the series that have more than two people participating. There will be MM, FF, MMF, MFM, and MMFMMMM. There may even be demon tails involved in the sex scenes. There is no dub-con or non-con in this book. Nor is there rape, sexual abuse, or emotional abuse. This book ends on a freaking massive cliff-hanger. Sorry not sorry, it’s a series, and that’s a great way to encourage you to read Book Two. I apologize for none of it. Now that I have given you this warning, if this is not your thing, read no further. But if this still interests you, read away, but please don’t then turn around and give me negative reviews because you don’t like any of the things I have mentioned. If you don’t like the story, that’s cool, but complaining about things I have warned you about isn’t. Saying that, I hope you all give the story a chance and just skip past the things you don’t like, because I really think it’s awesome.”

I finally caved and started this book. After reading the Neighpalm series, I really wanted to read more of Lexie Winston's work. I LOVED Glorious Gluttony and figured I'd give this a go.....and I'm grateful that I did.
This book is SOOO good. I really enjoy reading books where the heroine is strong and independent. Mina was truly a joy to read about, I cant wait to see what she gets up to in the next two books.

I skipped the author's note in this book, but read it in the second. I wish I would've read it because it would have made this an automatic DNF. This author has the audacity to call people snowflakes because they need a trigger warning. I'm sorry, but anyone who calls names, or makes fun of mental health is not someone I respect or will support. Hard pass on EVER reading anything else by this author. Shame on you!

This was not it.

From the blurb you expect the premise to be awesome and then you get stuck with chaos. Nothing in this book made sense. We were given information that amounted to nothing.

The heroine is upset with some of her ex friends because they were supposed to pick her to be the sole female in their group but they went with someone else. Why the heroine was so made even though she had not made the Gauntlet and she had to wait 4 years to take it, drove me crazy. I mean, did she want them to be down a member because she wanted them to wait for her.

Then the guys pick her 4 years later and its all sex jokes and her waxing on about how hot they are. Then all the guys want her and they tell her they made a pact to share the woman they end up with. Then there is another girl who is one of the guy's sister and she wants to boink that one as well.

Then there is a faction that want to destroy the world? or some sh*t and we don't know exactly what they are comprised of.

It was all a big mess, then the reveal at the end was just super silly. This is where we part ways.

DNF at 68%. I am sorry, but I just did not think this was very well-written. It has an interesting premise, but the character and relationship development didn't really make sense. The FMC was also "badass" but very much a special snowflake, and I just couldn't deal with her.

I don't think the author could decide on the dynamic that the FMC was supposed to have with the male main characters. At first, it seemed like they "betrayed" her by picking Constance all those years ago and she hasn't spoken to them since, but then they picked her to join their team and supposedly have been obsessing over her for years (but wasn't she like 16 the last time they saw her? and they were 20?). Then it seemed like she was being treated as a little sister figure, but then randomly the male MCs would pin her against the wall and say oddly sexual things at weird times. It was giving me whiplash. She was also overly horny and sexual with these people who she has never met/hasn't seen in years.

Also, I'm all for adding some FF into the RH, but it was weird that the woman was one of the male main characters' twin sister. I felt like I needed to chart out who was related and who was sleeping together within this little group.

Another also - that 1 scene with the vampire demon (who is clearly going to be added to the harem in book 2) was weird as fuck. Like, that escalated quickly? It was weird that her teammate made her do this for some stranger, and she just went along with it...?

Anyways, I was really trying to finish because it's not a very long book (I only have another like ~60 pages...), but I'm trying to do this thing where I DNF more when I'm not enjoying a book. Who knows - maybe I'll finish it one day, but I can't right now.

Read other books by this author in the future: yes
#1: MC: Mina (Jessamina), Samuel, Lysander, Patrick, Zephaniah, Mavromivhali, Drusilla
#2 MC: Mina (Jessamina), Samuel, Lysander, Patrick, Zephaniah, Mavromivhali, Drusilla, Jagger, Malakai

I am going to review book one and two here. The biggest difference between the first book and the second is, that the first one is a slow burn with a good fantasy story and the second on a medium/quick burn the fantasy story takes a step back, but it is still good. Both books end on cliffhangers.

Mina, the FMC of this book, is an orphan and because the nuns she was staying with could not cope with her they send her to the academy, where a willing childless couple fosters kids. Minas foster brother is Sam. The first book starts at the end of the academy. All students have to go through a test to get a placement. Mina and her two best friends are up for the test. At the end of the test different teams compete to take the good contestant in. Mina makes it though the test, but she is in trouble, because somehow people manipulated the test environment so that the fake animal is a real monster. But Mina still finish this exam and in record time too. Next da yes the placement event. Mina’s two friends get a placement in a new group, whereas Mina is chosen by team alpha. She knows them well, because Sam is part of team alpha and she used to train with them before she started her Academy training. The first book is about getting to know team alpha and first missions.
There are a few really nice ideas in this book, e. g. Dragons (not saying why it’s a good idea) the new tech and so on. I really liked the story and the people. Because there are a few R-Rated scenes the slow burn is pretty funny and I did not mind it at all.

The second book start exactly where book 1 stops. The mission was a disaster leaving Mina injured. And nobody knows what to do to save her. Also the ex Team member who was supposed to be dead is back claiming Amnesia. And because of Minas accident, which she doesn’t remember. The second story is more medium to quick burn story. Als two new members of the harems are introduced. Secrets are revealed.

I really enjoyed both books. The were fun and entertaining and I am looking forward to the next book, which is supposed to come out in December 2020 according to amazon.

Snowflake

I don't think I have ever given a 1 star review before even books I don't enjoy I normally give more than one star. This being because I didn't even start reading this as the author at the start basically calls people who have triggers snowflakes! How insensitive. Well I'm sorry for being a snowflake.

Unique

What a different take on Urban Fantasy Realms. Mina, the main character, is an interesting blend of fierce and vulnerable. The cliffhanger has definitely left me wanting more.

5 FREAKING STARS!
I just loved it, I am in love with this book! It was soooooo good!!! I loved Mina she is a bad bitch, she is fierce, knows what she wants, strong, badass woman! I needed a character like Mina, I haven’t read such a strong fierce female character in a long time! I loved Mina, I am IN LOVE with Mina, she was just amazing! I have no words for her character like I just can’t seem to say how much I love and put exclamation points at the end so I’m just going to shut up about her.

Thoughts: this is the first RH I’ve read that has a girl involved and let me tell you I not only dig it but as you know my favorite word with this book I loved it! Mina is bi and I really loved that, in my opinion their isn’t a lot of representation of bi woman in books and Mina being bi and accepting herself and having a lot if attraction for both the guys and Dru to me is just awesome!

Now Dru and the guys: I loved Dru I’m also in love with like I have a crush on both her and Mina and I just feel depressed that their not real but I will accept the fact that I can only read about them. The guys were super cool, funny, hot and I could see that they really liked Mina and have crushes or feelings for her. The steamy scenes were ufffff 🥵🥵🥵🔥 and so obviously I completely recommend this book! Now off I go to read the next one!

The first thing that really put me off this book was the Author's Note at the very beginning. I get the whole debate on whether or not to include content warnings, since it can spoil some things but also can be a good advertiser for people who want certain things out of their books. But if you think that it is not necessary/wanted in your own books, don't include them. Don't say "Author's Note: Snowflake edition." That is condescending and unnecessary and very dismissive of people who may have legitimate concerns about certain content. And that was all on page two, so I was already starting the book with a negative view of this experience.

There was basically no world-building at the beginning of this book, and I mean I was not sure if we were on Earth for at least four chapters. They have this odd mix of technology and historical things, such as one character randomly wearing a full-on Victorian dress with corset and everything, but others wearing super sleek, futuristic battle-wear. They also had hover-carriages and the ability to portal, but also horse-drawn carriages for no apparent reason. If there's a way to get around like hovercrafts and portals, why do we still use horses??? And if there's a real reason, I can get on board, but this was not explained and felt like the author decided on it just because it feels steampunk. Steampunk still needs to make cohesive sense, and the way this was incorporated didn't. The entire world in which the book takes place isn't really fully explained until the end of the book through whatever bits and pieces were described throughout the book, but still difficult to get a full picture as we are experiencing the plot.

The overall plot was pretty predictable, both in this book and throughout the series. Does it get better? A bit, but it's not a ground-breaking series. On a personal note, there is a point at which the main character showers like four times in one day and I was really confused as to why since it wasn't like she was working out or in battle or anything.

Why?

What? I mean really, what in the what? This world building makes no sense, there is so much given and yet not enough to give us a real idea what the he'll is going on. Who are the AOA? Is it humans and angels? Just Angels? What's their cause? What happened with the Dragons? Why did the boys break her heart by choosing? were they pushed? How did Constance die? what proof did they have she died! There was no body found! These are among the many questions I have to a most ridiculous read, it sells you with this I was hurt by boys crap, but is she no way hurt by anyone and pretty much falls into a flirty girl once chosen by these so called guys, it's also weird how there is no damn fighting in this book, just nonsense all around! A few bully kids that call her orphan girl, come on! Get freaking original please! The attraction scenes are downright not even there, forced liking Each other for apparently no real reason at all but that the new team member has a vagina and isn't ones sister. It says they don't want anything after the one girl, and yet they do? This book is all over the place! Boring to say the least, and if u ask me pretty God dang awful. Nothing like slapping a bunch of cow manure together and then sprinkling it with pink glitter and calling it a Picasso

Wow!

This book is so different and intriguing. It is so captivating, I didn’t realize I was reaching the end, until I did; and I was not happy about that. Although, I’m ready for the next one. Such a great book.

Amazing!!

This book was amazing... I love the concept and world building. A little tough to keep track of some of the characters because there are a lot of secondary ones, but I feel that will get easier. Lots of mystery about Mina. I have some thoughts, but I guess we will see how that turns out in the next book. From the beginning I did not trust Constance. Her behavior that was described seemed fishy and manipulative from the very start and when her body wasn't recovered I knew she would come back to wreck havoc. Ugh... Not a fan of her. Definitely a fan of Jagger and excited to see more of him in the story. Very hot. Though no sex yet. MM and FF. I also think team Bravo and The director are behind everything!!!! Ugh. So good and I need the next book like right now.... Please!!!!

Interesting Idea

I’d probably give this book 3.5 ⭐️ if I could.

I enjoyed this book, which was based on an interesting premise. There are 5 worlds, all created and ruled over by 5 different gods. They all have different attributes with Reath having magic, which is where our main characters come from. They are Guardians with Collectors Division. One of the problems of these 5 worlds is that there seems to be some overlap. For instance, Earth is filled with creative people who dream of monsters and beauty and being next to a magic world those dreams become reality and the Collectors Division is in charge of making sure those creations are kept out of the way of humans on Earth.

The plot is filled with angels, archangels, demons and arch demons and it seems that all of these beings are horny all the time. There is a lot of titillation and graphic descriptions by the characters of sex in this book, which is working towards being a Reverse Harem. It implies MM, MF, FF and more.

Though the world building was interesting, the plot is a little bit predictable, being about an abandoned orphan, raised without knowledge of what she is. She is a loner who has unexpected powers but no one can tell her where she comes from and the extent of her powers. There’s a dark force that they are facing that they don’t understand and it seems there may be a traitor in the heart of their organisation. Whilst it’s handled well, it’s not exactly innovative. However, the world building and the heat make me inclined to give the series another go, when the next book comes out.

This is the first book I have read by Winston, and it had me hooked from the beginning. Mina is fierce, but she also has some vulnerabilities. I like that while the heat is there right away, we also see the relationships forming, Mina is questioning how it could work. The ending was a shocker, and I wanted to shake a certain guy. Thankfully book 2 came out today, so I can go download it right away :)

I wasn't sure quite what to think about this book when I first delved in, but that resolved soon and I found myself captivated by not only the characters, but the PREMISE of this world.

The imagination of inventiveness of the human mind combines with magic to create what we dream.... dragons, Santa Clause, Witches, Smurfs... all of it. Popular culture comes out to play, and the Guardians are a select group specially trained and created to handle the influx and danger these creations can cause. They corral them, redirect them and at times, destroy them. And this is the story of one of those Guardians - and the Elite Team she finds herself with.

It's unique, a bit humorous and rather hot. Fair warning, that ending scene messed with my head.

~First Person, Single POV

Ending Type:
~Cliffhanger

Rating:
~R to mature

Romantic Dynamic:
~MMMMMMF (FF Present, as well as MM)

Good

I really enjoyed this book. My favorite aspect was the mystery surrounding Mina, the main female character. I have a guess and can't wait to see if I am right. My least favorite aspect was there were things that seem obvious but these super smart characters didn't seem to notice. For example, one of the villains (assuming, not a confirmed villain) did and said many very obvious, shady things but no one mentioned watching him or those he seems to favor more closely. Perhaps they did but the heroine, who's POV is the majority of the book, wasn't aware. Regardless, I am eager to read the next in the series however to get more info.

I enjoyed the book and the storyline but I didn’t love how quickly Mina forgives the guys. I get they didn’t have a choice in picking Constance but they still hurt her and she just pushes that aside as if it doesn’t matter.

It’s the second series of books in my life where there is FF beside MM and RH in it. The first one was a couple of years ago and I felt surprise more than anything else so I wanted to go there consciously this time. I haven’t form an opinion yet if I like it, OK with it or don’t like it at all so I decided to give it another chance. I have some entirely FF books that I started but didn’t finish thus far due to the plot that doesn’t hold my attention for long.

So after reading The Guardian I can say that this one I liked (there was no sex between characters yet). The plot development is interesting, world building is fascinating and characters are intriguing - there are so many different dynamics in the group and there is a potential of it growing even more 😍👍🏼

I’m already at 30% of the second book and it goes smoothly 🙆🏻‍♀️

P.S. I was laughing at the author’s use of snowflakes in the TW 😁 Saw a negative review because of that (if there were some serious triggers I would understand but spoiler: there wasn’t). I personally in love with Lexie Winston’s writing and sense of humor 🫶🏼

Not to be a snowflake but mocking people who have trauma and and need warnings for the sensitive topics (like rape) you write about does not show much respect for the themes, does it? Fucking vile.

Hmm. Still on the fence

I don't normally leave reviews but felt compelled to leave one for this book. I like the concept but it's a little bit disorganized and, well no really it's all over the place with the hot and cold from the FMC and relationships. First, I don't see the FMC as a badass, I see her as a whiny little bitch who thinks she knows better than everyone else and it's incredibly full of herself, we'll also looking down on people who are full of themselves. She's a little off-putting at times, and honestly the book had a bit of a slow start, and I'm really just not that impressed with this chick.
However, the book is developing and I am interested to see what happens next... That said, it has been a struggle to continue reading this book after I read the trigger warning. I don't care who you are or what you believe in, but I'm a firm believer that "my kink is not your kink and that's not a problem," and the same applies to triggers; how dare you assume that's something that could trigger someone else if something to be made fun of snorkeling in your prologue and essentially tell people not to read your book if they're sensitive! That was really shocking and disappointing to see. I am not appreciative of anyone who makes fun of another human for whatever triggers them, and to have it done so callously toward people who have experienced real trauma, was not only unprofessional but still has left a bitter taste in my mouth for this author. While I'm glad that her "marriage is still intact," I really hope she grows up a little bit because the immaturity of her "snowflake warning" really gives Indie authors like this a bad name, and since I support so many of them, I would hate to see this negativity reflected on any of them. I would pretty much equate that trigger warning to the same sort of attitude people have about telling sexual assault victims that if they had worn a different outfit it wouldn't have happened.
Again, I will finish the story through but I don't believe I'll read anything else by this author, unless she grows up a bit.

The general world building in this first book of the series was interesting, but the delivery left something to be desired. It wasn't very exciting to get the history of the world as giant dry lectures from character dialogues. There was also a serious lack of detail to flesh out the characters, too - many details of the characters' pasts were just glossed over and implied to be understood by our narrator FMC Jessamina. It took near the end of the book to figure out basic details that were hinted at in the beginning.

There wasn't much drama other than some petty bullying and Jessamina's insecurity with the other members of the Alpha team about developing a relationship with all her crushes. It's a change in pace than my usual reads, and I didn't count it against the book as it wasn't too cheesy sweet to the point it was annoying.

The book was still an entertaining read for me, and I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what happens in the next book with that cliffhanger ending.

Generously giving this 3 stars.
While this held my attention, enough so, to want to read book 2 right away, it wasn't a book I would want to re-read at all. There are definitely some plot holes that really hurt this as a whole. I found the characters to be a bit off. I didn't really get where I liked any of them enough to be really invested into the series like I do with some other authors' series.

I hadn't noticed this in another series by this author or this series until I was mid-book on book 3, though I'm sure it was there in the others, but I really hated the author's "author's note" & "author's note - snowflake addition"! What a bad way to rally readers, you come across as arrogant & uncaring, like you believe people really don't have problems or hang-ups in their lives. Maybe you meant it as humor, but it did not come across as humor! I doubt I will read more from this author due to the "author's note" & "author's note - snowflake addition". What a way to be condescending to the readers you hope will "buy" your books...

Another new series but I really liked the gluttony story in the Eden anthology so gave this one a go. Another end of academy with a final trial test and an abandoned child. I liked the story set up, who wouldn’t want to hunt down and protect imagination and myth creations. The MC is sassy and stubborn, but has abandonment issues and is highly sexual so hoping two books in its not gonna turn into a sex fest. Its an angels and demons story and man they can be petty so there is discrimination. I like all the guys apart from Samuel and my favourite character was Jagger. Does contain M/M and F/F, as well as ending in a wtf cliffhanger, which is pre-warned. I’d like to see where this one goes.

The only thing this fmc collected were - men (and the occasional sister)

That was all this was about. How hot the boys were, how hot the sister was, how hot even the arch demon was…..An interesting premise went down the rabbit hole: A deep MM, FF, MF, Kink..hole….(I did not reach the MMFMMM part if there was any here)

The heroine went from running the ‘Gauntlet’ (this part- the beginning was actually alright) to eye-f*cking everyone and crying and whining.
There’s a conspiracy and mystery somewhere, but I’m wasn’t interested in reading it to the end (for the former) and the latter, I’m pretty sure I could guess it.
