First off, I know you aren't supposed to "judge a book by its cover" but this one is gorgeous!! Definitely creates a dark artsy vibe.

And OMG, you open this book and THE AESTHETIC!! The poems are laid out in such creative formats, the art matches it all so perfectly, and I'm really digging the black and white theme.

Okay, now the poems. Some of these really dig deep, man. There's quite a few about heartbreak and love. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), I haven't experienced heartbreak, so I don't truly 100% connect to everything emotionally, but Secora writes in a way that you can get. You feel all the feels, and if you have had heartbreak experience, you'll definitely love this book. This is probably like one of those books you could find in those showhomes (you know, where they put on on the bedside table just for the aesthetic). I also really love the different formats in here: illustrations, poetry, prose, etc. It was definitely put together really well, to the point where you could call it art and would look amazing in Instagram feeds.

I received this book through a Goodreads Giveaway

Lord have mercy, this book took my breath away. I became wholly absorbed in every nook and cranny. One word, ethereal. I felt every line, being tossed to and fro, consumed and swallowed. Intensity written in beautiful prose. I wanted even more. So worth it. So worth it.

I enjoy poetry but have never actually read a full book of poetry. Dear Wallflower made me want to read more books like it.

In this book, the author Sara Secora lets her prose run wild with a collection of poems full of double entendres and emotional metaphors.

There’s a range of different emotions expressed in these poems. Meaning there will be some that resonate with any kind of reader. There are also many illustrations and snapshots that accompany the poetry.

If you love poetry and prose then I highly recommend Dear Wallflower.

A special thanks go out to Sara Secora for allowing me to read and review her poetry and prose collection in exchange for an honest review!

"Perspective is powerful.
It can be the shift between seeing the calm within a
thunderstorm or the chaos."

Dear Wallflower had many poems and prose that I connected with on a deep level and also felt what the author was trying to convey with the others. This poetry collections presents a vast amount of emotions that the author shifts through the entire reading. While presenting many metaphoric comparisons and illustrations that added depth to the poems or prose, it was as if they complimented on another. Her prose and poetry was raw and insightful for the reader to experience her growth.

Love is an emotion that is the emphasis of these collections how having a cold heart with the experience's life has dealt her with, being hesitant and cautious but also learning to break those chains that keep one stranded in the same place. Or even accepting the same outcome but knowing that letting go sometimes is for the best.

I enjoyed how she spoke of finding someone that loves you despite your imperfections and how one can achieve it, experience it or let love go.

Sadness is also another emotion sprinkled throughout the collection and this made me connect with her a lot as her metaphoric comparisons presented it as something the poet accepted but did not let govern her life.

Sara Secora also speaks about her vulnerability, her regrets, her anxiety, her doubts, and her perseverance and acceptance of failure.

Overall it was a poetry and prose collection that I thoroughly enjoyed as the poet provided her heart and soul into each one. If I would have to nitpick with anything is that it would have been great if the author divided them into sections to explore the stages that she experienced throughout her life. But in the end, it was a powerful read and one I hope that many others will pick up.

This is a poetry and prose collection from the author of a fantasy series I like, with themes ranging from romantic to dreaming to anxiety to just learning to love yourself. I'm not usually much of a poetry person, but I enjoyed this collection as the themes were quite relatable and not obscure in the way I'm used to seeing poetry written. It's very much a book targeted to introverts. The book is well illustrated and formatted as well. Sometimes the formatting even cleverly implies multiple ways to read the poetry.

I would say I probably enjoyed the romantic poems the least, as I'm not much of a romantic. In general I'm very against the ideals seen often in media that romance is supposed to be the "be all end all" in one's life that will heal all your troubles, and I felt like a couple poems were implying that sort of idea.

Luckily, the romantic poems are in the minority and what really spoke to me were the poems about supporting your partner, learning to love yourself first and foremost, and pursuing life to the fullest without letting people get you down. These poems were wonderful. I love seeing these sorts of positive themes.

Thank you to Goodreads Giveaways and the Author for this copy!

There were a handful of poems that made me feel something, but overall this felt very.. over-embellished. Pretty words are nice, but trying to cram as many as possible into a short poem ends up sounding like reading a thesaurus. So overdone that the poems lost their meaning within all the pretty words and ended up just being a jumbled mess. This would have been much better if 95% of these poems had been edited and simplified more. The book also seemed to lack general direction in the placement of poems. Very random and unorganized. I read this through the ebook and the pictures were pleasant but some font choices were made poorly. Specifically the cursive font. I found it extremely hard to read, and with the over-embellishment of the wordage, I had a hard time even guessing what they might have been. One poem I actually had to send to a friend just so they could help me figure out what the cursive said. They couldn't even be sure.

All this being said- I didn't HATE the poems. I appreciated the effort, and acknowledge the author for their hard work, unfortunately, this just wasn't poetry I gravitated towards. I won't be actively recommending this or thinking about it in the future. I would give the author another shot in the future in hopes her skills improve!

If you check the author's "bio" on her blog, you'll see that the words, sound, and image are the coordinates of her artistic work. The poems from Dear Wallflower are also the result of this mix. Putting together words, manipulating the grammar rules, and augmenting with images or the force of the white page, the author signals her readers inviting them into her feelings.

I know that the effect of this personal project based on a personal (unhappy yet?) experience will be different from person to person depending on their own life experience and their preferences in poetry, but I expect that everyone will like at least one poem.

They call her a doll; porcelain and perfect by design.
Yet she knows what they truly think—she’s a doll;
a fragile toy easily left behind.

Dear Wallflower; a book of poetry and prose, gives a peek into the anxiety & ails that have shaped and molded Sara Secora into an the inspiring young woman she is today. The sheer beauty of her honest, raw words is breathtaking. I may not be able to relate to every word, but I can empathize with every sentiment. If you’ve ever felt disconnected, loved, lost, heartache, or human at all, I highly recommend Dear Wallflower. I look forward to Secora’s future work, her personal growth, and her astonishing success. She sums it up best in her own words: “Unapologetically be yourself, every day, in every way."

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I've had the luxury of knowing the author for over a decade and have been a witness to both good times and bad.

As much as I always have enjoyed reading, I’ve never been a huge fan of poetry or had a good understanding of it. But Dear Wallflower was a wonderful surprise for me. I could feel the emotions coming though the pages, making me want to continue reading until there was no more. I felt so understood because it felt as if each poem was speaking to me. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has been in love, is currently in love, just recently lost a love, or is looking for love; it’s just a wonderful experience.

Every page is a symphony of words in Sara Secora's Dear Wallflower. With small, bite-sized poems and handfuls of words turned into melodic prose, every page leaves the reader pondering Secora's delicate works.

Beautiful illustrations and photos accompany each piece, breathing life into the words. I was able to finish reading this book in about ten to fifteen minutes, but Dear Wallflower is certainly a book I want to go back to again and again.

I recommend it for anyone who loves poetry, or wants to read something a little bit in the spirit of the month of love.

Not normally my cup of tea, but not at all disappointed I decided to read this book. It's a poetry book that speaks from experience, heart and mind, all done is a very artistic way. At times I found myself having to re-read because the words kind of resonate within my own life. It's a great read and highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this. It reminded me of the style of Rupi Kaur and Amanda Lovelace. I wish it were longer. My one criticism would be how hard some of the poems are to read. I was reading on my Kindle, and the poem about ink was almost impossible to decipher.

I checked out the audiobook for Sara Secora’s latest and I enjoyed listening to it. I really liked how it was written and left a lot of fun interpretations for me to ponder. Kelsey Maher’s narration is fantastic and soothing. Her voice was perfect for this. Highly recommend giving it or a read if that’s your preference.

Very thought-provoking poetry. Many of the poems required rereading. Sara has a skill for switching verbs and subjects in the same sentence. The love poetry got a little repetitive, but the introspective poetry was insightful.

4.5 stars and finally, after about a year of search I have found a real and beautiful poetry book. At this point in time this is my favourite modern poetry book so far.

The main theme is love but not only. It talks about love in general and love for yourself, about heart-break and lies, about fear, anxiety, pain and sadness, about identity, growth and being yourself, about dreams, about writing and poetry, and more.

The poems were in many different forms, sizes and shape, some just couple of lines, some with couple of words per line making one sentence, some longer and in more classical format, some even rhymed, and some were like quotes. There were beautiful photos and nice drawings, which is not the case with many poetry books that I have read. It felt magical and special, the poems touched my heart and I loved it.

It’s beautiful, inspiring, emotional, real and even raw at times.

It’s hard to find poetry that resonates with you but this book did that. These poems expressed many different emotions and feelings, so at the end each of us can find something that will speak to your soul.

This book was a small window into the author’s world, head and heart and that’s what gave each poem so much power.

*Note. I received an ARC of this book for a blog tour in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
