Angeline Gottschalk, bullied in high school and abused on the farm, is hiding a dark and terrifying secret. Because buried deep inside this timid farmer's daughter lurks a twisted alter-ego named Evangeline, the cold-blooded serial killer who narrates this extraordinary account of a teenage vigilante striking fear in America's Heartland.
Lorena Bobbitt just voluntarily committed herself to a maximum security rubber room, straitjacket embroidered with “Prelude Only” in trembling thread, rocking back and forth while muttering through foam flecked lips: 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑐𝑡… 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝐸𝑣𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑝𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎. Or maybe she’s in the retirement home, arthritic hands clapping in arthritic awe, soaked with equal parts terror and envy.
𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞: 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 is the sole reason the cosmos bothered with its ridiculous Big Bang tantrum. To scatter enough stardust across the void so that one day, one gloriously shattered, traumatized teenage girl could transmute Nazi pedophile crotches into a celestial requiem of ruin, each severed prick a screaming meteor of a dying star, renamed mid plunge after the innocent kid it tried to eclipse, so future astronomers will sob into their eyepieces while mapping brand new constellations named “Regret Major,” “Consequence Minor,” “Eternal Stump Cluster”, and immediately apply for grants to study the savage, glittering poetry of pure cosmic justice.
Nothing feeds my soul like a revenge story that serves justice diced, cold, and preferably still twitching. This author takes the unspeakable weight of trauma and spins it into gallows humor so viciously funny it could make a pedophile priest swallow his rosary mid confession. I found myself laughing like a chainsaw gargling holy water every time a swastika inked rapist pedophile parasite was granted his exquisite oblivion as a eunuch corpse, his own detached prick nailed bullseye to his forehead like a majestic, glistening unicorn horn sculpted from concentrated, weaponized shame, protruding proudly, so his dead eyes are forced to stare forever at the ultimate betrayal sprouting from his own skull like a toxic bonsai. What’s not to worship in this blood soaked Bolshoi of retribution?
I read it aloud beneath a moonless sky to my houseplants, and they grew thorns and weaponized themselves into carnivorous sentinels, vines coiling into nooses, leaves sharpening into shivs, chanting “snip, snip" in chlorophyll falsetto. My aloe vera transcended mere photosynthesis, ascending into a full blown photosynthetic pulsar, spinning at relativistic speeds, hurling gamma-ray psalms of “off with their pricks” across sleeping cities while inscribing luminous wounds upon the vault of night with eternal vows that vengeance, like starlight from a dying age, arrives long after the crime, but always, always, with perfect, cutting precision.
A standing ovation from every neuron in my body, and an eternal subscription to whatever shadowed nebula this author is channeling from, probably a dimension where mercy was aborted in the first trimester and vengeance nurses at the teat of a thousand blazing suns.
EVANGELINE Memoir of a Teenage Serial Killer [2014] By KC FRANKS My Review 5 Stars*****
Evangeline was one of two novels that was a two-way tie for the Book Read of the Month. Splatterpunk Horror Book Club had put up the “Biggest Losers” of the year. This was one of those “happy accidents” because this book was one of my favorites that I read thus far this year!
It is somewhat of a secret who actually authored this novel, or at least it is to me. This novel’s cleverness does not end with the book itself but puts an amusing spin on the author’s identity as well. Specifically, in the About the Author It is stated that E.A. Gottschalk is “a special guest of the Psychiatric Services Unit” at the state hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. “E.A. Gottschalk” is the narrator of the book, the “E” standing for “Evangeline” the dominant alter ego, and the “A” for Angeline Gottschalk. Dark fiction writer KC Franks is her slightly less compulsive alter ego. This is indicative that “Evangeline” remains the dominant but that a “less compulsive alter-ego” has evolved after the events of the novel took place.
Readers who are aware of what used to be called MPD (and now DID) will really love this book. That said you do not need to know one diddly thing about this rare psychiatric disorder to love this book with just as much fervor. There are few books out there, and I mean the horror or extreme horror genres that feature characters with DID. A notable exception is the works of Jonathan Nasaw, specifically The Girls He Adored and its sequel When She Was Bad They were both outstanding in my opinion.
In this book, a young Angeline Gottschalk’s psyche is shattered as a child, and the dominant alter “Evangeline” is created, later to self-identify as “Evangeline the Avenger”.
Angeline’s mother is crazy, and schizophrenia would be the logical choice for me. She remarries a cop who is a pedophile and makes haste to waste the child known as Angeline.
The entire journey of Evangeline’s Road to vigilante justice levelled principally at pedophiles and the occasional savage rapist is in first person POV. It is blunt, raw, unvarnished, and produces enough carnage to satisfy several fanciers of the Extreme Horror Genre. To be fair this is a great horror story as I just said, but it does have an actual story line as well. This makes the novel all that more enjoyable. Perhaps what I liked the most was all the carnage carried out by a natural comic. Evangeline is funny as hell.
This book is a bit gimmicky, but it works, so I am all for it. The action toward the ending was very satisfying albeit I felt the science was off the mark a bit. But as I said in my brief final status update when I finished reading the book, I am not in the mood to nitpick.
DNF at 21%. Maybe it’s because I just read a very similar and enjoyable story, in Lesley Camphouse’s Apex Prey, but I literally could not connect with this at all. I read tons of extreme horror and content that would make a mule puke every single day and that has probably desensitized me quite a bit. The writing was ok, but it became very taxing early on to focus on anything with the constant onslaught of a multitude of random characters and plot points. No breathing room for the reader and no real particular direction or flow to follow. The idea here was also nothing brand new and may have improved in the latter parts of the book, but I really struggled to make it as far as I did. Yeah, there was some very gritty sexual and really uncomfortable content, but, again, nothing that kept my attention or reinvented the wheel. This may be a case of not being a match for my particular preferences, but there are better options out there for this type of story, as per my aforementioned book from yesterday.
Now friends, I have to say, I was a bit put off at first by the "preachy" narrative voice used in this story. But as I read deeper into the story, I found myself cheering for the serial killer (yes, friends, that's correct!) and truly enjoying the witty account of Angeline's life.
Angeline? You may wonder if that's an error since the name of this book is Evangeline. Well, as it turns out, Angeline is a sixteen-year-old girl who has had a deplorable childhood, thanks to her disgusting pedophile stepfather. Unbeknownst to her, she has a "sister"...an alter-ego named Evangeline. Unlike Angeline, Evangeline doesn't take any nonsense.
Evangeline is protective of her shy, ignorant sister. She'll take care of anyone who harms her in any way. But hey, why stop there? There are plenty of vile, child molesting scumbags in the area. Evangeline takes it upon herself to make her area of the world a nicer place.
This story is raw and twisted. It is told from Evangeline's point of view and Evangeline doesn't sugar-coat anything. Heed the warning, this book contains graphic language, violence and sexual content. But it's just oh, so good!
Many reviews state that it is scary, but honestly, I didn't find it scary at all. Wildly entertaining? Yes. Engrossing? Definitely. Just not scary, in my opinion.
Still, the further I got into the story, the more I enjoyed it. I even began to enjoy the "preachy" narrative voice. It gets a bit suspenseful toward the end. And yes, friends, I even enjoyed the ending
This book is just WOW. Miss Gottschalk is one hell of a writer. Her style is filled with sarcasm and humor during the toughest times. I absolutely enjoyed this story which has me considering my mental state but when the writing comes across the way this author tells a story, hell yes I can say I enjoyed!!
What was is endured in this book is beyond what any mind, body and soul should have to live with. This is considered a horror story, but in all honesty this is not a horror story except for the abuse that one has to endure.
This is the story of sweet and recluse Angeline.
Her life is not the life any young girl should live. Being repeatedly molested by her deputy sheriff step father, Angeline hides further within herself. She doesn't make contact with anyone and prefers that others not to make contact with her. Leaving her be is all she wants. As the abuse continues for several years, Angeline falls further into her darkness.
The only way to protect herself from the endless abuse, her mind snaps and her "sister" Evangeline steps in to endure the worst part of that man kind has to offer. Evangeline is the strong, takes no shit from anyone that Angeline is not.
Angeline has no idea about her "sister". She has no idea about the justive Evangeline is about to serve on the lowest pond scum in the human form. Angeline has no idea her abuse is about to set forth a talespin filled with revenge, blood and death.
Dear sister Evangeline makes her appearance when sweet Angeline closes her eyes after a day of misery. Evangeline's justice for Angeline is about to be served. The perverts of her small are in Nebraska are about to meet their form of punishment.
"Oh Evangeline, who art just merciful. I'm very sorry that I've been such a perverted ass plug and hurt so many innocent children. Please spare my totally bullshit life and I promise, I will never again hurt another child."
Angeline begins to feel something is very wrong with her. Things are not adding up and she is losing spaces of time when all hell breaks lose. She can't imagine herself able to inflict such evil revenge but when she looks into the mirror, she only sees her "sister". The eyes looking back only have revenge for the life Angeline is living.
Unable to fight off her "sister" any longer, Angeline loses her battle with sanity.
Go ahead and screw yourself, but fuck with me and you're dead. Brothers and sisters, the gospel according to Evangeline. Amen.
I loved Angeline and I loved Evangeline. I will read anything this author has to write!!
friends, we have another five star on our hands. i genuinely love everything about this book, evangeline is an absolute icon & i support every act that was committed, she did what was meant to be done!
Angeline is a shy girl, way too sweet for her own good. Her mother lives in her own Jesus crazy world and doesn't realise, her daughter is being sexually abused by her second husband.
Oh, but don't worry Evangeline will take care of him.... she won't let anyone harm her sister. In fact she sees herself as an avenger, her mission: get rid of all the sick perverts and make them pay for their crimes.
I love this book and downloaded the second book right after.
This book isn't a full novel, it's a part of a novel. I hate that, now I've read part one and two and now I have problems buying part three. Damn, now I'm pissed.
This story told in the first person was somewhat sad told by someone with multiple personality disorders. dark and twisted having a horrid life.with many trigger warnings sexual abuse/beatings/mental abuse. first read by KC Franks will not be the last. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I gave this story the rating I gave because there is definitely a lot of creativity here and the author absolutely has his/her own, strong voice.
Also take note that there are trigger warnings for this book left and right so if you're sensitive to certain subject matters, you may wanna stay away from this book!
This is the story of Angeline. She is a sixteen year old girl who has been abused by her step-father, bullied at school, and a few other bad things happen to her within the pages of this book. There is something different, something off about Angeline though. In times of extreme stress, she taps out and in comes someone else, another personality who calls herself Evangeline. And Evangeline? She's tired and furious about everything she and Angeline have had to endure. So she comes to a decision to make those who deserve it pay for their actions.
Here is where I have a problem. Most of the male characters in this are characterized as not too bright pieces of you-know-what. And the females? Pretty much, in my opinion, characterized as not too bright and very, very weak. I was there for the plot we started out with. I was all like "yes! let's do this!' and then that was quickly abandoned for something else. I was also pretty disappointed that Dissociative Identity Disorder was incorporated into this. Adding that element took away what could have been a fragile, abused girl rising up and kicking butt (rightly so) of the most disgusting elements of this human race and made me less sympathetic to her because I didn't get to be a cheerleader to her but her other personality.
Otherwise, I would be interested in seeing more work from this author because there is a very strong voice here!
So the idea of this girl having an alter-ego personality that emerged as a result of being abused is an interesting premise for a horror story, but I felt some of the writing was too 'try-hard', often being overtly graphic and shocking just for the sake of it. Written from the point of view of Evangaline, the darker 'sister' personality to Angeline (whose social inadequacies kind of reminded me of Carrie White), we join her on a journey of twisted revenge against the scum who have made her existence miserable. I normally enjoy a good revenge plot where the bad guys get their comeuppance but as characters they often lacked depth, much of the tension was sacrificed at the cost of gratuitous violence and I found some of the typos distracting (and incorrect usage - how can one be a 'vivacious reader'?!). However, I was somewhat entertained and it's a good idea that would probably work well as a trashy horror film.
There are so many kindle books vying for you the readers attention and so many are disappointing. This is just one step above dross a below average horror? read with a liberal dose of graphic....neither terrifies, titillates nor entertains......
I went into this expecting something broadly in the vein of Triana’s Full Brutal, largely because the protagonist is a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl with a marked enthusiasm for killing people. What I got instead was a revenge story...though not the tidy, cathartic sort.
Angeline’s life, such as it is, has been a short but relentless parade of abuse and violence. Practically everyone she encounters seems to take some degree of pleasure in hurting her, in one form or another. I guess - even though that doesn't really happen in the book - eventually, after a moment of reflection involving a mirror and what I assume is a great deal of suppressed rage, she decides she’s had enough and begins to exact revenge with admirable thoroughness and absolutely no restraint.
By all rights, none of this should be funny. And yet, thanks to my evidently defective and warped sense of humour, I found myself laughing far more often than I probably should have.
All told, it was enormously entertaining. Against my better judgement, this is shaping up to be my first five-star review of 2026.
A young and abused woman develops a split personality as the way to survive, and that split personality swiftly works up a taste for murder – taking out paedophiles and scumbugs around her home town. It had to be said that ‘Evangeline’ is really well written; boasting a confident, sharp, funny, but deliberately nasty style. I just wish I’d liked it more. Normally such a reactionary tale comes with a coda suggesting that these killings sprees have terrible consequences. ‘Evangeline’ does aim somewhat for that, but is far too self-satisfied to make it stick. It’s a novel which is so busy smirking viciously and obnoxiously at its readers, that it just leaves a rather unpleasant taste in the mouth.
WOW, what a read! The plot was intense, powerful and thrilling and held me captive all the way through! The characters fairly leaped off the page, and the tension was palpable. If you are looking for a book that you just CAN’T put down, then this is DEFINITELY the book for you!
I don't know where to start with a review of this book other than to say that every page made me keep reading even though I wasn't sure I wanted to. I stopped reading Evangeline for a few days because it was nearing the end and I knew it would be over and that, too, it would leave me disturb so I punished myself by not finishing the book. However, Evangeline possessed me to keep reading and finish it and I did! I was truly glad I finished it and in the end (no need to worry about a spoiler) I was left with a completely different ending than I could have ever imagined just as creepy as I hoped it would be !!
Gory and explicit by turns, while also consisting of a compelling tale, the "true story" trope is put to good use, though the "your humble servant" cliche felt out of place here.
I liked the general realization of the concept, though it left me wishing the core concept had been just a bit more thoroughly explored.
That said, the writing was generally tight and built tension well, though I did notice a handful of lazy-writing-habit instances, though not uncommon ones, and it didn't rob any joy from the entertainment value of the read.
If you're sensitive, move on; but if you don't mind darkly-themed tales, this one delivers the goods quite well. Unfortunately, due to the "the writer is the MC" trope employed, it will be hard to know when this author releases anything new, which is... sad.
Holy crap was this book amazing!!! It has been a while since I have read a book that I couldn't put down. The only reason this book is getting low ratings is because people are too sensitive to the material. Yes this is dark, yes there is rape, yes there is murder, and all these things are to be expected after reading the description of the book as well as other readers reviews. That being said, I don't understand why people rate a book negatively because of these things being in the book. If those things bother you, then don't read these types of books!!! Okay, rant over. The writing was fantastic, the story highly entertaining, I did not want the book to end!!! I love the perspective the book was written in. It was just crazy good! I wish it had a better cover though. I cannot lie, I almost didn't read this because the cover was unappealing, but I'm so glad I did. Love, love, love!!!
This book is sooooo disturbing/dark/twisted and NOT for the faint of heart. I got it free on Amazon and seriously almost quit reading after the first part of the book (because of the subject matter), but continued on with parts 2 & 3 before buying the last couple parts for a buck. lol. I HAD to keep reading to find out what would happen! I feel almost guilty for liking it, but what can I say... it was well-written. hahahaha.
Decent horror/thriller about a girl who has suffered terrible abuse told through the eyes of her, er, "sister" who decides to take revenge (in a roundabout way). It's entertaining, if that's the right word, well-written and easy to read. I've read a lot of horror books so it didn't exactly blow me away, but it's worth a read if you like this type of novel.
This book captivated me from the very start. It's pretty grotesque and probably triggering for some since it describes sexual abuse. But it's clever, the language interesting and the story is so exciting! I read the whole thing in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down.
I don't think that I have ever liked a serial killer.....or any killer as much as I like Evangeline. The girl has style........in a grusome sort of way. Is it a case of multiple personalities, evil possesion,....what? I was actually rooting for her in parts. You go girl!!
Not for the faint of heart! sick, twisted and gruesome! a very interesting read, couldn't put it down. says it is a true story but I could not find any proof of that online.
Beyond belief...totally sick but hard to throw away which was my first thought (to throw it away)...but I kept going...it still was sick but engrossing...worth a read
