What's he doing here? It was supposed to be a fun, relaxing weekend at a famous resort. Just me and my best friend, Cam. This trip to Hood River, Oregon was a chance to finally get out of the city and relax. There’s just one turns out the vineyard is run by my ex-husband Matthew Sinclair, a self-centered workaholic lawyer. What’s she doing here? When I see my ex-wife Ellie for the first time in six years, all those old butterflies come fluttering back. The day she walked away changed me. When I quit my job and converted this old place into the four-star resort it is today, everything was different. Is this my second chance? If so, I only have three days to prove I'm not the man I used to be and show her what it means to be loved.

The story was ok but the heroine seemed to carry the brunt of the blame for the failed marriage. Matt never acknowledged he had any role in ending their marriage. Ellie was always too busy, never there, she didn't listen to him. Her job always came first, she left him and he had no idea why. Ellie was portrayed as the cold uncaring workaholic but what was he during their marriage? He was an alcoholic, an angry one at that. He made it seem like he turned to drinking because Ellie was ignoring him. His sponsor said Ellie was toxic from things Matt told him. No one made Matt drink but his own insecurities. Man up and acknowledge your own shortcomings, don't blame your wife. He couldn't say why he loved Ellie, he said he was in love with the idea of being in love when they were in college, that she was comfortable. That is not what you say if you want to woo the woman you love. That was the problem, she loved him but he stayed in the relationship because he didn't have to make an effort until she realized she was worth more than being taken for granted.

There were editing and timeline issues. The late wife died at the age of 54 and Matt said she was 10 years older than him. Matt and Ellie were 34 or 35 in the story. Ellie thought to herself that his dead wife was 10 years older than him when she found out. That's a difference of more than 20 years. Shuri had her "donor" for Liam when she was 40 and Liam's age is now 19. Shuri would have been 59 or 60 if she was alive still, that's a difference in age of at least 24 years. I don't know if this was deliberate so to make the age difference less notable or math was a challenge.

Matt noticed Ellie looked tired at the wedding and wondered why. "Elaine had never been one to put nose to grindstone, so to speak. She had the easiest job in the world at a hospital; or at least, I assumed she still did. She was one of the highest paid administrators, and her job was just paperwork and meetings. She had no idea what it was like to run an inn, or better yet defend a murder client ..." Ok, first of all either she was a workaholic or not. He's saying she was a slacker at her paper pushing job but all through the book he claimed work was her first priority, not him. Second, what kind of misogynistic bull is this ? He had the important job, the hard job, he had to think and use his brain while she just sat behind the desk and stapled all day. I felt Matt's condescension throughout the story, even after he left his job and became sober.

Four Star Story with TOO MANY Typos/Errors

There are few times when reading ARCs (or released books) that I spend more time and put more focus on correcting/highlighting typos/editing errors than I do actually paying attention and enjoying the plot. Those books tend to go on the DNF shelf because I don't get paid to do that and let's face it, someone likely did get paid (in some form) and yet I did their job for free. 119 SEPARATE ERRORS ..... that's what awaited me in this ARC. Thats only 20 less errors than there are pages. And thats not including the multiple times Inn and inn were switched up OR the issues I likely missed. Before you bite my head off, I realize ARCs are not the final product...... however they are the final draft so to speak. From general typos to grammar issues, those were plentiful but at some point a little expected. What blew my mind (sadly) were the number of times the author failed to follow her own plot timeline. One minute it would be 6AM, the next noon....all in the same conversation and scene.

However, I indeed finished this book which speaks volumes of the story being told. While most of the time I abandon books with an obscene amount of editing issues, this one was just too good of a story to put down. It was both inspirational and sweet. I loved this couple!

Told in dual POV, this slow burning standalone is about second chances and the changes people make for love and a HEA. It contains no dark themes and is a sweet "feel good" romance with a guaranteed HEA.

Overworked and absolutely exhausted, Ellie Sinclair is whisked away by her bestie Cam to a luxury resort for four days of relaxation and fun. Its the perfect escape and just what she needs to mend the broken heart brought on by her ex fiance's cheating ways. If she is expecting to get away from it all, she is in for a surprise. The resort is owned by her ex husband and first love Matt. Its been over five years since she last seen him.....old feelings begin to surface which make Ellie question if the "new" Matt is one she could have a future with. Only problem is, while he may have changed she is still the same woman who puts her job in the number one spot...... if she wants a future with Matt, she must decide if the risk is worth everything she would have to give up in the process.

Matt Sinclair traded his Armani suits and long hours at his law firm for the fulfilling life as the owner of the vineyard and resort left to him by his late wife Shuri. Together with his stepson Liam, he's created a successful resort and venue and a life of making others happy. Accepting he will likely be alone the rest of his life, he cannot help but believe fate has other plans when Ellie checks in. He isn't the same man she divorced, and he isn't going to waste the second chance he has been given. But can he show her that life is more than a fancy job title and a six figure salary? Will he be able to convince her to choose him over the life she has given her all to create?

Overall, the plot and romance is a page turner of a read....it was interesting and connectable. It featured realistic scenarios and authentic characters. It is the best kind of slow burn, with just enough comedic relief to break up some of the angst. Had there not been so many editing issues, this is easily a 4 star read!

I hope the issues are fixed prior to release....if so, this is 100% a worthy read. If the issues are still present at release, the only promise I can give you is the story is beautiful if you can get over the mishaps.

Ellie was having a fun and relaxing weekend away with her best friend. Then she sees her ex-husband. What's he doing here? He just happens to run the resort where Ellie is staying.

When Ellie left Matthew, he quit his job and turned the old vineyard into a four-star resort. Now she's at his resort and all the old feelings come back. Could this be his second chance to get Ellie back? If it is, he'll need to work fast to show her he's a changed man. Can they have a second chance at their love and have a HEA?

Definitely an enjoyable story with wonderful characters.

Ellie and Matt were married years ago but when they both paid more attention to their jobs than each other and Matt began to drink heavily they drifted apart and ended up divorce. Now when Ellie’s friend Cam takes her away for a girls weekend they go to a resort/winery not knowing that her ex Matt owns it. They share a wonderful weekend and began to wonder how it all went wrong but she has a important matter to take care of back in Seattle so she goes back right after Matt tells her he still loves her. Will Ellie come back to Matt?

This was an excellent read. This book starts out at a good pace and continues it throughout the entire book. The story is very enjoyable and you will be hooked on it within seconds of starting it. The characters are so lifelike that you feel as though you know them personally and no matter what you want to see them happy. To overcome whatever may get in their way.

This book needs to be read and experienced, there is no doubt about it.

I enjoyed reading this second chance love story about ex's who haven't seen each other in years. They run into each other while she's on a girl weekend at the resort/winery that he owns and the spark is still there. The characters are believable and the story kept my attention from the first page until the last page. The book needs some editing but other than that a good read. Good Story

Ok, could use some better editing. I think the last couple of chapters seemed rushed, could have been longer. I am still trying to figure what Matt meant about almost dying? Wish that was explained more.

This is a second chance romance between divorced couple, Ellie and Matt, who haven't seen each other in five years. These two flawed but likeable souls and the unique plot make for an interesting read. Once they reconnect, it is a bumpy ride with drama and steam, sexual tension and chemistry, twists and turns, plus appealing secondary characters. An emotional read with all the feels.

Have a tissue handy on the afternoon you allow for this adult, contemporary, resort, second-chance love story at the Moscato Vineyard near Hood River, Oregon, where caterer Camden Recine takes her overworked 34-year-old hospital administrator best friend, Elaine Catherine Louise Sinclair, which they discover is owned by Ellie's ex, 35-year-old Matthew Sinclair. Chuckles will ensue.

This was a good read. I did have some questions that weren’t entirely answered. I did want to know what Matt meant when he said he almost died. I also wanted more of a resolve on the reasons they got divorced in the first place.

Nothing romantic about this. I am going to assume there’s a demand in the market to read about a hero who moved on with his life eg OW while heroine doesn’t move on…just waits and them HEA with a banana. 🤮
