The New Yorker is an American magazine of reportage, commentary, criticism, essays, fiction, satire, cartoons, and poetry published by Condé Nast Publications. Starting as a weekly in the mid-1920s, the magazine is now published forty-seven times per year, with five of these issues covering two-week spans.
When I was young, I read every New Yorker I could get my hands on, just to read the cartoons. It was kind of like reading Playboy just to look at the naked pictures, articles be damned. The cartoons here are just as I remember them. I don’t “get” them all, but that doesn’t matter. It’s a short, very satisfying read.
It's not quite as fun when the cartoons are more contemporary and I actually know some of what they're lampooning. I like the mysterious quality the early ones have because I don't know much history. But they're still addictive and delightful.
