Goiter Head

Rate this book
Arye's good buddy Bernard went from mouthy Goiter Head to really adorable twink in one incredible surgery, and it's confusing the hell out of him. Arye's missions are dangerous, often violent, but his mind keeps going back to Bernard... and that damned Halloween costume.

Bernard has a brand-new body, and he knows exactly what to do with it. No longer just a head growing out of his brother's neck, he's got a Halloween party to get to, and a certain military operative to get under.

The was a weird one I probably wouldn't have read if I hadn't gotten it for free in one of those Prolific Reads holiday giveaways. Bernard or "Goiter Head" is a former conjoined twin that has gotten a body transplant and can now be openly gay with his own body instead of sharing with his straight brother. He's been in love with his friend and co-worker Arye or "Kinky" forever, who is a pansexual rogue (it's a very sex positive story and Arye does have sex with other people in the story before hooking up with Bernard). Arye's into Bernard's new look and they live happily ever after.

Tags: Location: a Black Ops site in Central Texas Hill Country nearish Austin; Paranormal/Sci-Fi: Everyone has special powers, Arye can't feel pain, there's a serum that heals people super fast, body transplants exist; Age Gap: Bernard is 25, Arye is 44

A unique and fascinating short! Set in a pre-estanblished world this was alllllmost too much at first. I love fantasy but it felt just a bit out there, likely due to the fact that this isn't the first book and doesn't introduce anything as you should know about it. But quickly I fell into this intriguing universe. There was a little bit too much emphasis on sex, it is a short but it felt like that was all they did at times, but once again it worked for these charcters once you got to knwo them. There were unique circumstances, confessions, some cute times, some very sexy times, and plenty of discovery. It was unusual and crazy but also very sweet and loving. A curious book from a curious world!

Terrific paranormal with a hint of Halloween. Bernard has a whole new world opening up for him. A new body and sensations to figure out. I love his rambling dialogue with himself. Arye is a player straight up and proud of it. He's a little shocked by the emotions that Bernard brings out in him. I'm going to have to grab the first book Violet Crown because it was just that good.
