Victoria James is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance.

She is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she's quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.

4 The Muffin Man Stars

 photo tumblr_luaglewJWw1qdecqko1_r1_250_zpsipcnmrxk.gif

After getting The Baby Bombshell from Netgalley and reading it I was hooked on the Shadow Creek gang. I really wanted to see Gwen and her mysterious Muffin Man get a book. So I jumped at the chance to read this when I seen it on Netgalley. Victoria James didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed this sweet, feel good read. I laughed a lot reading this story. Gwen was cute, playful and very funny. Luke was a sexy, brooding Dr with a heartbreaking past. I thought they were very cute together. The chemistry between them was great. I also enjoyed getting to catch up with Lily and Jack. The whole Bailey family are sweet and easy to love. This was a quick low angst read. The only reason it wasn't a 5 star for me was it was too short. I felt I needed more development like maybe an extra 100 pages so I didn't feel like we readers just got the bear bones of a great story. Still a great read that made me feel happy. I loved the end it was very cute. I am hoping Luke's sister Haley gets a book too. I want her to have a HEA.

4 - "What a tangled web we weave." Stars!

I have been itching to read Gwen Bailey’s story since I started reading the Shadow Creek series. The third book; The Doctor’s Redemption, gave me my wish.

I adored the first two books from this series, the author managed to turn me into an absolute blubbering mess pretty much from the prologue for each book, and kept me in an emotional spin-dryer with the telling of each of the stories for the couples that books focussed on, right to their ends. And for the most part the second half of The Doctor’s Redemption did the same thing. But, If I am being honest I did find the first half a little slow to get going. I am also not a huge fan of dragging out a lie and then using that as the basis for the story-line (which this was), I am one of those people that would prefer it to come out early on and then have the rest of the book focus on rebuilding trust in the relationship, and for me it was definitely dragged out for far too long.

"You’ve been there for everyone else, it’s time to focus on your life."

I have felt a certain kinship with Gwen since we were initially introduced to her, a lot of her personality traits and the way she dives in to help everyone else out often to her own detriment struck a bit of a chord with me, so it was nice to see her step into the romantic spotlight this time. You can pretty much guess where the story between her and Dr. Luke Thomson aka The Muffin Man is going to go as soon as you are given his thoughts, and the dual POV helped me understand his motivations as to why he played things out the way he did.

"I’m done letting life pass me by without being who I really am or going after what I really want."

This was for the most part a sweet, heartfelt read, I do think the pacing was a little off for this couple though in that as already stated the first half of the book seemed to drag in a repetitive sort of way, the 'I want you / I can’t have you' from Luke got awfully tiresome, especially when you take into account the massive whopper of a revelation he was holding back as well, I did at points feel like screaming 'JUST TELL HER!' at my Kindle, but the author managed to keep me invested because I still really liked Gwen and the rest of her family and friends.

"The other night was the best damn mistake I ever made."

That-said, there were a lot of sweet moments in the story as well, I liked introduction of Luke’s sister Haley as well, and one would hope that there is a story there for the author to tell at some point in the future. Still a pretty easy-going read, it just didn’t pull me in and keep a tight hold on my heart-strings as the preceding books in the series did. I do hope we get to go back to the town and characters of ,i>Shadow Creek though as the author has built a really great community around this series.

descriptionThis cover is OK. The composition is WAY off and don't even get me started on the author's name being the largest text on there. Cue graphic design 101 lecture.description

Sigh...It pains me to have to give this book a 3-star rating. I ADORED book one and two of this series and was SO looking forward to Gwen and her muffin man. Alas, this fell WAY short of my expectations.

First, this one felt a lot shorter than the others. Looking at the previous books they all seem to be around the same length, but like I said this one just felt underdeveloped to me. I felt NO connection between Gwen or Luke. Probably because so much of the book was them lost in their thoughts. Him constantly thinking about how he wants Gwen but can't have her. Shouldn't get involved with her. Doesn't deserve her...yadda, yadda, yadda. Her constantly thinking how she is frumpy. How she puts everyone else first. How she wants love. Obsessing over Luke. I cringed more than once at how she kept throwing herself at this guy. He straight up said he would never marry again and didn't want kids. I was puzzled why she even bothered to pursue him after that.

description

On top of that, we had a HUGE whopper of s secret that was dragged out WAY too long in my opinion and when it finally comes out it was a bit anti-climatic. Now there were also some sweets moments. I loved catching up with the couples from book one and two. I am curious about Luke's sister. I thought maybe there would be a Haley-Ben hookup, but I think maybe the author will go in another direction for her. I do hope we get to see Ben in his own book at some point. He intrigues me.

ARC requested through Netgalley, and kindly provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

I think this may be my favourite book in the Shadow Creek, Montana series. As always, I loved this story by one of my go-to authors, Victoria James. Over the past three books, I have gotten very attached to the Baileys and all of their friends and family. I settled right into this read with anticipation and a smile on my face.

“This is the year of the new Gwen where I go after what I want, and I get the guy I want. And I want you.”

We first met Gwen Bailey in Christmas with the Sheriff. Five years after losing one of her brothers and nephew in a terrible accident, Gwen has had it rough. When her other brother, Jack, took off for parts unknown, Gwen felt the need to take on the role of caretaker of her remaining family. In The Baby Bombshell, we got to see Gwen begin to take some tentative steps towards starting to live again and now, in The Doctor’s Redemption, we get her story.

“He’s been coming here every morning.”

Jack snapped his finger and pointed at TMM. “Oh. The Muffin Man.”

She was going to kill her brother.”

Luke Thomson, AKA “The Muffin Man” was amazing. After learning about the guilt he had been harbouring for years, I just wanted to wrap him in my arms and give him comfort. His story was so heartbreaking. Despite vowing to stay away from Gwen, a woman he didn’t feel he deserved, Luke couldn’t seem to stay away from her.

I loved the connection that formed between Luke and Gwen. He saw right through all of her insecurities and into the great person that everyone else could see. Both were able to help the other with healing and putting the past behind them.

I felt so anxious for Luke throughout the book and the longer he held on to his secrets, the worse my anxiety got. I silently chanted for Gwen to be able to see her way past the perceived “betrayal of trust” and see Luke for the wonderful man he was so that he could forgive himself. I wasn’t disappointed.

Such a wonderful story!! (And hopefully not the last we see of the Baileys and their loved ones)

Gwen Bailey is feeling pretty good about herself for a change now that her family has emerged from the grief and despair brought about by the death of her brother and nephew five years ago. Her parents leaned heavily on her for support and now that her other brother has returned to town, it's her turn to focus on her own happiness. And at the center of that focus is The Muffin Man, or TMM as he's "confectionately" known as he comes into her chocolate shop every morning for his coffee and muffin. What she doesn't know is he's Dr. Luke Thomson and he's keeping a secret that could potentially devastate her.

What's not to like about Gwen? She's a great friend, sister and daughter with the sunniest of dispositions. Her one failing, however, is her own self perception but she's working on that, too. Luke has the same attraction towards her as she has for him but knows he can never begin a relationship because of that monster of a secret. Despite these issues, they both plod forward inelegantly but it all works. I loved how their relationship developed and it was a nice change of pace to see the guy have all the angst.

I was looking forward to this story and it lived up to my expectations. I adored Gwen and Luke clearly earned his redemption. The strong theme of family, conventional and otherwise, added wonderful foundations and layers to an already good story. There are equal amounts of heartbreaking and heartwarming moments, especially near the end. Here's hoping we haven't seen the last of Shadow Creek.

4 Heartfelt Stars

I really enjoyed The Doctor's Redemption by Victoria James.

The storyline was well written, the plot held my interest all throughout the book and the characters touched my heart with their story.
I was so into Gwen and Luke's story I stayed up late into the night as I couldn't put it down. I needed to see how were these two going to get to their much deserved happily ever after.

This is the third story in the series which focusses on the Bailey family, their friends and family. In this story the hero is initially nicknamed ‘The Muffin Man’ - he’s the hunk who comes into Gwen’s Chocolaterie shop every morning and always has a muffin but rarely has any conversation with her or the other members of staff. He’s a brooding, tired looking, mystery who intrigues her. However, she’s also feeling dissatisfied with herself and her life. She’s always wearing frumpy, ill fitting, baggy clothes and in serious need of a fashion make over! She’s also been a pillar of strength for her family during the series of tragedies which have impacted on them during the last few years and now feels she can start to make time for herself and her life - preferably involving the Muffin Man. He’s actually Doctor Luke Thomson and he’s come to Shadow Creek to make amends for something in the past which is making him vow not to make any move on Gwen without her knowing about his past enabling her to decide whether to still be involved with him or not.

This is a story of people seeking forgiveness from others but reluctant to forgive themselves. It is an emotive story, dealing with many aspects of grief, including empowering yourself and others to move on to live despite past tragedies. It is a roller coaster ride where you’re not quite sure how everything can be resolved to enable the romance to succeed. There are great secondary characters in the story, too, and it was fantastic to catch up with some of them again. I’m enjoying this series and hope there will be additional books to come - I want to know what has happened to Luke’s sister and read more about Ben, too! Another winner from Victoria James, IMHO, I have no hesitation in recommending this and other books in this series to anyone who enjoys escaping into a very moving romantic read!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.

I've loved Victoria James' Shadow Creek series, so to be taken back so soon after the last visit was a treat.

"...from her first encounter with her Muffin Man, she’d known he was special."

At the end of The Baby Bombshell, we were given a fair hint on Gwen Bailey's potential love interest and, already knowing that Victoria can write a very fine doctor, I was excited to discover Gwen's mystery customer, The Muffin Man, was Dr. Luke Thompson.

"She made him feel like there was hope. She made him believe in redemption."

Once again Victoria brings her reader a lovely story with heart, humour, characters who feel like family and a journey to lose yourself in. The link between Gwen and Luke was one I didn't see coming and, as always, they were wonderful together despite potential heartache simmering away in the background.

However, as much as I enjoyed The Doctor's Redemption, I can't help but feel that this couple were sold a bit short: in comparison to the previous books, it was on the shorter side and whilst there's no denying it held feeling, it just wasn't with the same emotional impact. Nevertheless, I still loved Luke and Gwen, Victoria once again has created a couple you would love to have in your life and I'm looking forward to seeing if Luke's sister, Haley will be the next to find love.

A feel-good story that made me smile!

I was pulled in immediately by this one. Luke just happened to find himself attracted to Gwen. Super! But, Gwen also happens to be a member of the family he wants to make amends to. But Luke had zero idea about that until one fine day. Needless to say, this created some tension and I couldn't wait to see what happened at Luke's "big reveal."

This book treated me to some laugh-out-loud moments. Gwen is a pistol, and I loved the things she would say!

Thanks to Gwen, I was also treated to some inspirational "girl power" moments related to body image pursuing your own happiness. Never hurts to have those topics reinforced!

I met the whole cast of characters from the series so far (I think), and I am VERY interested in doubling back and reading their stories too.

All in all, in spite of the somber premise, this book was beautifully written and left me with a smile!

Loved, loved, loved!! Victoria James once again wrote a story that pulls all my emotional strings and grabs me by the heart.

The Bailey's continue to show us what a family should look like and what a little love and kindness can bring to our lives. After a tragic loss of two members of the family they have each had to work through their grief and learn to live and love again. Gwen Bailey was the one trying to take care of everyone. Now that everyone seems to be doing well it's time for Gwen to go after her dreams. One is her chocolate shop - check. The other - get the attention of the regular early morning customer. Dr. Luke Thompson aka TMM or The Muffin Man, comes to the chocolate shop every morning working up the nerve to introduce himself to Gwen. His original goal was to offer an apology but after getting to know Gwen what he wants is so much more but how could he ever ask her for that?

This is one for the must read list. I highly recommend it.

The Doctor’s Redemption, the third book in Victoria James’ Shadow Creek, Montana Series is the story of Gwen Bailey and her mystery man known as The Muffin Man aka Luke Thomson. This is a standalone read, however, readers of the series will be happy to see past couples.

Five years ago, the Bailey family lost a son and grandson in a tragic car accident. The resulting fallout forced a daughter-in-law/friend and twin son/brother to leave as well. During this time, Gwen Bailey had to pick up the pieces and try to keep what was left of her family together and take care of whatever it was her parents needed. Now that the family is back together, happy, and thriving it's time to focus on her.

Luke Thomson is a man carrying around a lot of pain and guilt. He’s in Shadow Creek to make amends for what he thinks he has done wrong. What he didn’t expect to happen was to have feelings for Gwen. Luke is about to find out that true love, forgiveness, and friendship finds you when you least expect it.

Victoria James is one of my favorite authors and an auto buy for me. I’ve read all of her books so I know what she’s capable of. Sadly, The Doctor’s Redemption wasn’t her best work. That’s not to say that the story wasn’t enjoyable or that I didn't like it. It was enjoyable and I did like it, but it wasn't what I expected from a Victoria James story. Victoria is known for her ability to write heart-wrenching scenes, which draws readers in and leaves them reaching for a box of tissue. That was missing from this story.

The main characters of Gwen and Luke are very likeable. However, I had issues with them. To me, Gwen came across as being too needy. She refused to allow Luke to turn her down when she wanted to spend time with him. There was a reason why he kept making excuses to not be with her. I wasn't fond of the fact that Luke took things too far without coming clean with Gwen about his secret. The secondary characters were all great and helped to pull the story together. They were able to show what was truly important in life and love.

While The Doctor’s Redemption wasn't a huge hit for me, I loved that it eludes to the possibility of a fourth book, which I would definitely love to read.

I knew this one was going to beautifully emotional. I had the tissues handy especially for the last part of the book. Gwen is ready to live life again for herself and she has her sights on Luke. I love the nickname she gave him, the Muffin Man or TMM. My heart just goes out to Luke. He has so much guilt inside him and keeps pushing Gwen away because knows he can't have her, but that doesn't stop him from yearning for her. As Gwen works her magic on Luke, Luke braces himself for inevitable outcome. That is where those tissues come in handy because it's heartbreaking, but therapeutic as well. I really enjoyed this third book in the series. Gwen and Luke had chemistry and tome they fit well together. It was nice to also see the charters from previous books enjoying their HEAs.

The first 3 books were nice, but slightly uninspiring. They were shorter than I expected and a bit disappointing. Each book contained “fade to black” scenes and were very “clean, almost religious” reads. I am going to stop at 3 even though there are several more books in this series.

This is a fun romance in the Shadow Creek, Montana, series that I just loved. Five years ago, Luke was driving in an accident that killed five people. He returns to Shadow Creek to try to find a way to apologize and make amends to the people he hurt. Somewhere, along the way he began stopping in Gwen and Lily's chocolate shop after work each morning. He sees Gwen every morning without having any idea who she is. Thus begins a perfect setup for an ill fated romance.

The Doctor's Redemption made me smile, even as the characters dealt with difficult things, their inherent goodness came through. I loved how they found a way to overcome their pasts and find a way to their futures. This is a feel good romance.

Fans of the genre will love this book. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Doctor Luke Thomson has come to Shadow Creek for a reason and that's to confront the past and apologize to those whose lives he believed he turned upside down. He knows getting close to Gwen Bailey is reckless, especially because of the secret he's keeping, but there's no denying their chemistry. However, when Gwen learns the truth about his past, will she be able to forgive him for what he did, or will their chance at happy ever after be ripped away?

Ms. James is an author whose books I could read one after the other and never grow tired of her stories, because she writes incredible characters with back stories that more often than not tug at my heart-strings; and stories with fast-paced plots that hook me from the very beginning and leave me with the biggest smile at the end, because of what the hero and heroine have to overcome to be together, and certainly, this story was no different. The way this book started with the prologue sets the fast-pace of this story, and had me reading quickly, determined to discover what the hero is going to do. He has so much guilt that he needs to absolve himself of, if he's to be completely happy, and the only way that's going to happen is to confront his past.

As for the dialogue, it was well-written, spell-binding and had me hooked, as it illustrates the power of love and forgiveness and the beauty of redemption and hope. When Gwen learns what Luke has been keeping from her, will she be able to forgive him when he had ample opportunity to explain his reasons for being in Shadow Creek? Moreover, the dialogue was a wonderful combination of intense due to the main characters back stories and teasing due to this couple's growing relationship. Their banter definitely ups the sexual tension, as Luke does his best to resist Gwen. However, Gwen doesn't make things easy for the hero to resist her. She knows what she wants, and after suppressing her needs and desires for the last five years to take care of her family after tragedy struck, she's determined to get everything she wants -- love and happiness. The question is -- is Luke the right guy for her?

Both the main characters were enthralling, and I loved every moment the hero and heroine interacted. Sometimes, it was fun and amusing and at others, it was deep and had me wanting to cry, because of their in-more-ways-than-one connection. Luke knows he's risking his relationship with Gwen by not revealing his secret, and it made me empathize with him. When would he realize that what happened years ago wasn't his fault? Will the secondary characters be able to help him overcome his guilt? Furthermore, Luke is strong and brave for the reason he's in Shadow Creek, and I could understand his need to face the past.

While Gwen, she's been through a lot with having lost two people she loved and then feeling like she had to be responsible for her family when things got tough, so it's understandable why she finally wants to do something for herself. As her family is finally starting to heal from their loss and finding their second chance at happiness, so isn't it time she did the same? Also, I liked how kind and caring she is and the effort she goes to in getting to know Luke. Will he accept her invitations? Then there's the nickname the heroine had for the hero, and I liked that he felt comfortable with her calling him it, because it certainly fit with his order whenever he came into Gwen's shop.

Overall, Ms. James has delivered an incredible read in this book where the chemistry was intense and the ending left me completely content, despite the fact that I cried when Luke explained his reason for being in Shadow Creek and was met with various reactions from Gwen and her family. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, because readers discover how far Luke and Gwen have come in their relationship. Does Luke finally believe that love at first sight exists? I would highly recommend The Doctor's Redemption by Victoria James, if you enjoy a story with fun banter, wonderful characters in both the main and secondary, and a plot where the characters have some tough obstacles to overcome to be together. I would also recommend this book and the other stories of this series, if you enjoy books by authors Melanie Shawn, Noelle Adams, Jennifer Shirk or Samantha Chase.

Prologue (five years prior) -

Luke, a doctor, has dedicated his life to saving others, and yet, has been unable to do so for those closest to him. A fact he continues to carry the guilt for. Unfortunately, he's adding more as he believes he's responsible for four deaths resulting in destroying two families. One day, after he's worked toward becoming the man he can and wants to be, he will atone for his self-imposed sins and ask for forgiveness.

Present time -

Do you love The Muffin Man? Why yes, Gwen thinks she just might. Of course, in her case she's referring to a customer that has visited her chocolate shop every day for the past few months, and though they don't talk beyond the basics of ordering and the routine good-bye wave, it's, sadly, been the most attention from a non-related man in a while, but she wished she could engage him in conversation. Gwen decides to host a speed dating night at the shop she owns with her best friend and sister-in-law, Lily (see book two, The Baby Bombshell, for her and Jack's story.), knowing she needs to either do something to see if the feeling is mutual or move on. She knows how precious life is, how temporary it can be, after losing her brother, Michael, and young nephew, Matthew.

Luke couldn't help noticing the gorgeous woman at the chocolate shop, but when he discovers who she is, he gets nervous. He knew the day would come when he'd cross paths with another member of the Bailey family, having already met Lily when he treated her for injuries. He's also disappointed, knowing he and Gwen can never be. She's off-limits because of who each of them are, and his part in her family's pain would destroy her. Yes, he wasn't officially at fault per the report, but it doesn't stop him from carrying the burden of responsibility.

When Luke and Gwen finally talk, she asks him out and Luke, albeit with the best of intentions, tries to make excuses, but inevitably hurts her feelings instead. Unable to let her believe he doesn't want her, he verbally woos her and then proceeds to kiss her. It's explosive and yet not enough at the same time. Unfortunately, due to the storm, her brother and brother-in-law decide to check on her, interrupting the hottest moment of her life.

Luke informs her nothing can come of it because he's not looking for a shared future again after losing his wife, nor is he staying in Shadow Creek as his time there is up in six months. After having their own version of speed dating and getting to know one another, Gwen is hurt when Luke seemingly walks away without any hesitation. But the best laid plans and all that...

"None of this had been planned, but he couldn’t walk away from her and he knew, standing there, that that would be his downfall." - Luke

Will Luke take a chance and explore what he and Gwen could have together? Will Gwen decide to stop waiting for Luke to choose and do it for him? Can Luke have Gwen and redemption? Or will he lose Gwen once she discovers his part in the tragedy her family suffered? Will Gwen realize they aren't the only ones experiencing that emotion and pain?  Or will she believe Luke used her, that it had all been planned to appease his guilt, and not because he truly cared? Can Luke make her see he loves her? Can Gwen understand his side? Can she ever trust him again? Is there a HEA for Luke and Gwen? Can they both let go of the past and embrace the future?

One-click now and follow along as two people begin living again and discover a love that heals all wounds. Please keep in mind this is book three in the series, though I feel this can be read as a standalone, references to previous books are made and those characters due make appearances. For those curious about safety information, Luke hasn't been with anyone since the loss of his wife, Lisa, five years ago. I'm happy to see, based upon the epilogue, that Haley, Luke's younger sister, will get her story told as well. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Victoria James sure knows how to tell a story so that all my emotions are involved and I am invested in the outcome of the story. I adore this series, and how all the stories are twined together, how that one tragic day changed the lives of so many people, yet these stories tell how hope, love, and new life can be born from a tragedy.

Gwen Bailey had been there for her family when everything fell apart. She had neglected herself while taking care of others and finally felt it was time for her to get a life, as well. Now it was her turn to be happy, loved, to have a meaningful relationship. She felt sorry for herself, unattractive, and was uncomfortable in her body. Yet her attraction to The Muffin Man gave her inspiration to do something about it, to change things, to pamper and focus on herself. She was ready for a relationship, looking actively for one, and shamelessly pursuit The Muffin Man, whose name she didn't even know. I didn't know if I should have been cheering her on for her boldness to go after what she wanted or appalled of her brazen attempts to get his attention.

Doctor Luke Thomson, also known as The Muffin Man, carried a heavy guilt and pain from the past. A remorse that brought him to Shadow Creek in the first place. He is a good man, with deep emotions, good intentions, caring and kind. He also has no desire to be in a relationship, to get married, or have a family again and he is not afraid to vocalize this to Gwen.

Yet there is this sweet, adorable connection between them. The pull is unavoidable, the attraction is burning hot. The draw they have to each other is stronger than the reasons they should stay apart. Until the secret Luke is holding in, hiding behind of, finally comes to light, a little too late, and has explosive consequences.

There's a lot of gentle, delicious lustfulness in the story that had me smiling and sighing. Luke and Gwen are a great match, they are perfect for each other. They support each other, they share interests and are not afraid to voice an opposite opinion. I wasn't sure at the beginning if Gwen was actually attracted to Luke, or just to the feeling of falling in love, but those feelings are put to test and have to survive the fire.

Love, angst, joy and regrets are all mixed in and churning in the hearts and minds of the protagonists as they are working towards healing, a better, happier tomorrow. Atonement and forgiveness take time, time to mend and accept the past mistakes and casualties, but falling in love can change everything and it can happen in the blink of an eye.
A sweet, appealing, and alluring tale, a part three to the poignant and touching series that has won my heart over completely.

Off-limits romance between two strangers with an instant attraction but emotional intertwined past

The Doctor's Redemption is a slightly off-limits romance between two strangers with an instant attraction but emotional intertwined past. This is the third book in this series and while it can be read as a standalone it does help to know the two previous books to fully understand the surprising curveball and impact of the storyline in this one. However, like I say, it’s not compulsory as some details are covered within this book.

Told from dual perspective, Gwen and Luke (aka The Muffin Man) have an intriguing connection that neither can deny but a massive secret threatens to put a spanner in them finding happiness. Gwen is a young woman who, with a little help from her friends, is determined to embrace her life, including finding happiness and love with the sexy stranger that she can’t get out of her head. Luke is a sweet but troubled character who is in need of redemption after a tragic past but Gwen proves troublesome in his original plan as she worms her way into his heart.

The Doctor’s Redemption has a heavy emotional undertone but what I really liked is how when mixed with an insta-attraction and love, their relationship is steadily built up in a fitting way for the plot. For fans of the series, the curveball in this plot is definitely one you don’t see coming but added that something extra to make it an interesting read to watch how things played out. While heartache and tension are simmering along close to the surface throughout, be assured this can be read as a standalone with a HEA. The only niggle I had was that, while I was thrown by the plot in a good way, I felt torn because I liked where things were leading but it just felt like I wanted a little more after the reveal because it felt like not much happened after that; I still enjoyed the book but kept thinking more would come.

Victoria James is one of my go-to authors when I’m looking for something sweet but with enough spice and a good storyline to escape into for a few hours and this definitely ticks all those boxes! Definitely recommend.

This book is book three of the Shadow Creek, Montana series and while it could stand alone, one should REALLY read the first two books of the series for maximum impact. You should also read them because they are fabulous. All sex happens off-screen, and there is very minimal cursing and no f-bombs, so if you avoid books with those things in them you do not have to worry with this one.

I am fairly new to Ms. James' books but now that I have read a couple, I want to go back and consume everything she has ever written. After reading The Baby Bombshell, I was very anxiously awaiting this book and I am so glad to say that it not only didn't disappoint, it exceeded my expectations. I very stupidly started reading this one at 11:30pm, figuring to read for a half hour and get to sleep by midnight. Yeah, that didn't happen. At 1:30am I finally *forced* myself close my Kindle and go to bed, even though it killed me to stop reading. I was pretty sure that I knew who The Muffin Man was when I read Baby Bombshell, so I was excited to read this book and find out that I was right, but I'll be honest and admit that I did not even begin to consider what TMM's background story would be. That revelation dragged me into this book to the point where I finished it in 3 hours because I just couldn't stop reading until I got to the end of the story.

The Muffin Man/TTM (whose real name is Luke) and Gwen were perfect together. They had a mutual attraction to each other from the start, but while Gwen started to put herself out there to try and gain his attention, Luke kept his attraction to her firmly under wraps. Despite his outer cool shell, Luke's unexpected and uncharitable inner thoughts about Gwen's dear friend Ben made me snort-laugh and just reaffirmed his feelings for her. The crux of this story was the undeniable attraction and affection between Gwen and Luke. I couldn't get enough of the two of them together, and I found myself just wanting to hug them both. Gwen has lower self esteem (I LOVED the speech she got in the dressing room, oh my gosh) but she didn't stop trying and she was the kind of character that I love and could totally see myself being friends with.

This book made me tear up more than once. Luke trying to cope with his past was gut-wrenching, but it was also incredible and made me like him more than I already did. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a story that is incredibly well-written and surprisingly emotional but that isn't too heavy and has a beautiful, well-deserved happily ever after. Five stars.

Gwen Bailey is the sister of Jack (Book 2) and the only daughter in the Bailey family. She put her life on hold to care for her parents after their family was shattered by a tragic car accident 5 years ago, resulting in the loss of her brother and nephew. But now she's ready to start living once again. She's running the Chocolaterie with her sister-in-law Lily and has a crush on the 'muffin man' that comes in nearly every morning and has a coffee and muffin.

Luke is the doctor we met at the rural hospital in Book 2. He's the 'muffin man' that Gwen has been crushing on, even though he does all he can to stay hands off and away from her for a lot of the book. Luke has a secret that he knows will hurt Gwen and the Bailey family, but it's not until the end of this book that the secret is revealed (although it's predictable for us readers).

Man, those last couple of chapters...have some Kleenex handy. I had a steady stream of tears even though I knew the story from Book 1 and even knew Luke's story early on in this book. But it was still rough hearing it all over again and reading the emotions everyone went through.

I liked Luke for the most part. I didn't agree with him keeping the secret for as long as he did, even once he became romantically involved with Gwen. But he truly was a good guy, a kind and compassionate doctor, and it didn't hurt that he was hot. His caring for her when she had the flu, swoon. I liked Gwen. She had to be strong for her family for so long and was still strong, so I appreciated her showing that vulnerable side. But she was incredibly stubborn, especially in the end there. I get why she was hurt, but her attitude towards Luke broke my heart. At least they make up relatively quickly and get their HEA. The ending was cute and made me happy for the whole Bailey family.

This series has been one of quick reads/listens. With shorter books, it's hard to feel that connection sometimes, but I think this author does a pretty good job at invoking your emotions for the characters, even if the romance is a bit lacking at times.

The Doctor's Redemption is a sweet story about Gwen and Luke. Gwen is a strong heroine, who is used to caring for people. Luke is secretive, but so sexy.

This book made me anxious and hopeful. I really felt like we were watching Gwen grow and evolve as her life was going through changes. Luke needed her just as much as she needed him. The characters were well rounded and adjusted. The pacing felt a bit off, but it didn't distract me from the story very much. It's a wonderful addition to the Shadow Creek series, and recommended to the contemporary romance reader.

Finally, Gwen gets her HEA! Such a twisted tale in this family. Love the small town atmosphere and all the love despite the tragedy. This is the third book of the series but stands well on it's own. Fans of the series will enjoy catching up with the previous couples.

I like how the author gives us such a tangled web around this one tragic incident. I think all the players have yet to come to the table. Gwen and Luke are perfect for each other. Over everything, the author rings loud and true that love can heal and make us whole. Sometimes the characters do bone head things but in the end, the heart knows what it needs.

Love the whole series and this book rounds it out nicely.

Oh goodness! I loved the heavy emotion, the redemption, the finally feeling alive, the deep connection, and the family dynamic of this book. Gwen was such a strong beautiful woman with a heart equally the same. And Luke, I wanted to embrace him, was so broken and downtrodden. My heart felt for both characters. The way their story was written was beautiful and moving. It was so hard to put it down when I needed to sleep or get ready for the day. Such a wonderful addition to the series and my favorite one so far.

This is the third book in the Shadow Creek, Montana series. It tells the story of Luke aka TMM and Gwen. Dr. Luke Thomson came to town to apologize to the Bailey family. He had no intentions of getting close to Gwen, but fate had other plans. Will Gwen be able to forgive him when his secret is revealed or will he leave town a broken man? Grab your copy and get ready to hope for your very own muffin man.

This was a cute read. Broody doc falling for the sweet, but feisty baker, a sweet romance, and a bit of hilarity had me smiling more than I realized! James has created a very heartwarming family with the Baileys and I’m curious to see who’s next in line:)
