Thanks to Senku, the whole team is back in business again! Some illustrations were like the strokes of a paintbrush which was pretty cool and very different from the artwork I had seen so far in the series! I don't understand why a fragment of stone is still attached to Yo's eye upon revival. The page on Ginro's "Sleazy Ultimate Moves" was funny. Can't wait for the showdown between the Kingdom of Science vs. the Petrification Kingdom!

DANG I WAS CRYING WHEN I SAW IBARA STABBED GINRO AND MID-TEARS I REALIZED THERE'S THE PETRIFICATION DEVICE AND WAS LIKE HELL NO, NO ONE'S DYING ON ME TODAY. ACTUALLY, NO ONE EVER AGAIN!! THEY CAN ALL DROP DEAD AND BE REVIVED SECONDS LATER HAHAHAHA NOW THIS IS FUN
BY THE WAY I LOVE JUST HOW ALL THE SCIENCE KINGDOM MEMBERS GET ALONG. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH 😭💖 but lol, wary about Moz tho... let's see how that will turn out.
This was a pretty good book, as we have the squad infiltrate the harem we learn a few things here and there and we also get some new discoveries and its compelling but the main is the fight that happens between Ginro and Ibara and then Kohaku and Moz and them turning to stone and then again Moz finding their cave but turns out he joins them in their plan to take the weapon from Kirisame and defeat Ibara and as their interests are aligned, tensions rise but so do hope, things are getting good. Now the firearms are here too and its upto Yo to use it carefully! Things are advancing at an epic pace and its wonderful to see! Plus the art was good here and the dialogue was simple to follow and the big war is coming and the secret revelation too!
This was better than the previous volume. It is full of action and we learn more about the island, the head, and its inhabitants. The people who were petrified are being revived finally after some time. I also love the mythological reference in this volume and in general. Perseus is the Greek hero who slew the monster Medusa. In Dr. Stone, Perseus is the name of the ship of the Kingdom and Medusa is the name of the petrification device because it turns people into stone. So, it is kind of fated that Perseus (Senku and others) would beat Medusa (The Petrification Kingdom).
It's crazy to think already 3 years have passed in the manga. Though it makes sense since they need lots more time to create things from scratch. And it also matches up with the real life running time of the manga,

Volume 14 of Dr. Stone picks up right after the group acquires platinum, allowing Senku and his team to finally begin the revival of their allies and continue building the Kingdom of Science. The momentum is strong at first, with progress coming steadily until a shocking twist disrupts their plans. Ginro accidentally discovers that the Master is fully petrified, leading to a critical moment where he is stabbed by Ibara. To save him, Kohaku makes the bold decision to have both of them petrified, banking on future revival to heal Ginro’s wounds.
This event triggers a series developments, including Amaryllis rushing to warn Senku unfortunately, with Moz trailing behind her. What could have been a disastrous reveal is cleverly turned around when Gen steps in, using his signature psychological tricks to manipulate Moz into temporarily siding with them. The stakes rise as the group begins plotting to take down Ibara and seize the petrification device.
As Moz grows more confident in his position, Senku, ever the tactician, begins laying the groundwork for a counterattack including the construction of a gun. This volume serves as a major setup for what’s to come.
Overall, Volume 14 is a high-stakes prelude to what promises to be an explosive showdown. While it’s clearly a transitional volume, the character moments, plot twists, and clever setups keep it engaging throughout. I’m genuinely excited to see how Senku and the Kingdom of Science turn the tide from and beats the islanders,

Yeah this was another fun read. Really liked the Ryusui bits, especially Suika making him another hat before he was revived was really sweet (I know she did the same for Ukyo, but he isn’t as fun as Ryusui). Also the gun looks really cool (just the design of the thing with the location of the chambers? I think it’s called) also that one panel with Yo holding it looks kind of badass, and the bit surrounding giving him the gun and him fucking up into success by accidentally killing the snake was hilarious.

Kohaku purposely petrified herself with Ginro to save him. Amaryllis accidentally leads Moz to Senku and the others. Moz wants to kill Ibara, but Senku and the others need to be careful as he will try to kill them as well.

God, this volume was stupid fun to read. I'm just going to cover a few of my favorite bits.
Ryusui being so excited to be the first one petrified and revived for a second time is gold. Also, the interaction with him and Senku about the plan ("Am I wrong?" Cue kite plan. / "You're wrong!" Cue absolutely bonkers DRONE plan.) lives in my brain. Yeah, Ryusui, I never could've guessed that plan either.
The battle of wits between Gen and Moz was fantastic. I honestly just love seeing Gen work his tricks - I could just read a whole book about that. I am incredibly biased on this part because Gen is my favorite.
The whole sequence at the end where they revive Yo just to give him a gun had me losing my mind. "Who can we revive to use this firearm? Right! The crooked cop! Perfect!"

Platinum has been acquired and revival fluid is being made once again. But enemies still lurk on all sides as Moz's suspicions about Kohaku rise, not to mention, Kirisame has the petrification weapon. To make matters worse, all our petrified allies have been dumped into the ocean, making revival a challenge. The stakes keep rising and the suspense does too.
Side note, there's a One Piece reference in here for any fans.

Dr stone at this point lacks conflict, character development, and stakes.
Most of the book involves senku easily solving problems using science while the rest of the characters do little but praise him or carry out perfunctory tasks that he assigns. The science is never difficult. Senku never gets stuck.
No character ever challenges Senku’s approach to suggest an alternative plan, no power struggles, no love triangles — there is no character conflict. We learn nothing about character backstory, nothing to illuminate their fears or dreams, they face no difficult moral choices.
Things pick up toward the end when Senku and the rest are facing off against external human threats — the tribesmen of petrification island. This is a more straightforward shonen battle scenario. But even here, stakes are low. Because they have infinite revival fluid, no one is really ever in much danger.
Complications are trivial, the enemies are invariably dumb, the outcome never in doubt, yet every step is belabored by exposition.
If you compare this to a medical drama, such as House, which is also centered around science, the difference is clear. The science problem is difficult. Doctors disagree on what to do. The stakes are high — life and death. We learn all about the backstory of the patient. House has to make a tough moral call.
Shonen by their nature are optimistic stories of friendship and hard work. Yet top shonen like One Piece, Naruto, or Demon Slayer never lack for high-stakes conflict and have rich character development throughout.
Dr. Stone is floundering and foundering like an overturned barrel of fish on a sinking ship.
Despite our spies being found out, rather than die, they choose to get STONE'D, with full faith that their comrades will save them later. So the race continues to revive their people, develop the plan to steal the Medusa weapon, and forge an uneasy alliance with this tribe's most cunning AND deadly warrior. Interestingly, we learn some of the Mentalist's tricks along with all the chemistry & technology hacks cuz hacking people's actions is ALSO a science. Also, the one invention that all men dread has been made, but only because there is such a wide gulf of power between their ominous ally and everyone else in the Kingdom of Science...AND THEN THEY DECIDE TO GIVE IT TO THE MOST UNTRUSTWORTHY CLOD IN THEIR RANKS JUST BECAUSE IN THE BEFORE TIMES HE WAS A DIRTY COP WHO LIKED TO LITERALLY SHOOT FIRST & ASK QUESTIONS LATER! ... But don't worry(?) they can reign him in with pretty girl? ... This series is great for learning AND laughs!
For once, this volume was more action-packed than the previous one. The IQ display by the "five wise generals" was cool, Gen, especially as I like reverse psychology. Unfortunately, the plot still follows the predictable (Ibara the bad guy? Well, of course), and moreover, Kohaku's plan may be the prelude to a new Deus Ex Machina: nobody will die once the heroes get the Medusa.
Next comes the showdown: the Perseus vs the Medusa. You gotta love Inagaki's references!

Woo I'm finally read a part of the story that isn't part of the anime (just yet as only Season 3 part 1 has been released as I write this review). It's making me really eager to watch the rest when it comes out. Also I seriously want to read more volumes as it's most certainly something to "get excited" about.
