Casi McLean takes us on an incredible journey through the underbelly of society. Showing us what happens when a fifteen-year-old gets kidnapped and caught in the web of human trafficking with no filters makes this a must-read. The characterizations are spot-on and the evil oozes from the pages. Characters so real and accurately portrayed, you'd think you were experiencing it for yourself. The plot moves at a quick pace with plenty of action to appease any thriller fan. The supernatural sub-plot really spoke to me and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend!

Wyatt. My heart goes out to him with all he has to deal with. His honesty when talking about what a soldier who comes back injured has to go through is raw, edgy and spot-on. His fierce love for his sisters as well as Harper is heart-wrenching. A hero every woman will swoon over.

You just can’t go wrong with a Casi McLean novel – this is my second read by Ms. McLean and it certainly won’t be the last.
The List: Alyssa’s Revenge by the talented Casi McLean is a new thriller that begins with a bang and never lets up until the last page. To my delight, the return of favorite and cherished characters from Reign of Fire, the first book in the series, made my day: Wyatt, Harper, and of course, a ghost bent on some serious revenge.
This story has everything: corruption, suspense, mystery, and romance wrapped in a tidy bundle that left this reader rapidly turning the pages. What’s different about the second installment of the series is the human trafficking aspect and prominent supernatural tone, which I found both intriguing and adventuresome.
Tie all the elements together, without flaw, and you have an award-worthy storyteller in Ms. McLean – five golden stars awarded for ingenuity, a fast paced thrill ride, and for keeping me enthralled enough to keep our scary, social realities at bay.

What a powerful sequel! From the very first paragraph, I was hooked. Why wouldn’t I be? I was instantly plunged into the horrific world of child trafficking, with heart breaking details of what it’s really like for those kidnapped children––in particular, two sisters––who have to deal with fear, hunger, loss of family, drugs inserted into their systems––only to end up as sex slaves to strange, wealthy men.
When one of the sisters, Hanna, manages to escape, she sets in motion an intricate plot to try and save not only her sister, Sarah, but also the other children in dire need of help.
But what also grabbed me besides the authentic lingo, fine, descriptive prose, and action packed scenes was the great cast of characters, with all their intricate layers. There’s Wyatt and Emily Rose, who are the siblings of Alyssa, murdered in the first book. Wyatt is a wounded warrior, permanently scarred both physically and psychologically from an IED explosion in Afghanistan.
Harper Drake is the director of NCIS, assigned to this case, along with Emily Rose and other team members. But she’s more than that. Apparently, after Wyatt mysteriously broke off his relationship with Harper years ago in Afghanistan, it has left her wanting.
Yet all of this is just the tip of the iceberg. Turns out that although Emily and Wyatt’s sister, Alyssa Rose, is dead, her ghost is most definitely alive and well. As the crack team plots out a way to get inside this vicious ring of pedophiles, I was curious to see how Ms McLean would work the paranormal into an otherwise gritty story. She did it beautifully, and as the squad zeroes in on the nasty culprits, Alyssa makes her own discoveries––and goes for big time revenge.
Bravo! Highly recommended.

The story opens on the horrific scene of a child abduction. Hannah was lured by a man she should never have trusted and eventually finds herself captured and used in a sex trade ring the spreads across the country.
After months of torture, she manages to escape-leaving her sister behind- and meets a kind stranger (Alyssa) who directs her to safety.
When war veteran Wyatt’s dog leads him to a distraught child hidden in the bushes along the bank of the Potomac, he carries her to his organization’s secret hideaway in order to get her the help she needs and soon learns of the girl’s connection to his deceased sister, Alyssa.
NCIS Director Harper Drake leads a secret faction known as the New Patriots whose goal it is to fight terrorism and corruption. When her ex-fiancé, Wyatt’s, ghost appears and guides her toward the child traffickers, the risks amp up to a new and dangerous level.
The author tackles several tough subjects; war injuries, physcological issues (PTSD), child trafficking, abuse, national safety, but what appealed the most for me was Harper and Wyatt’s journey. They’ve both been through a lot and it’s left scars that take love and trust to overcome.

A THRILLING RIDE THROUGH INTRIGUE, SOECIAL OPS AND THE PARANORMAL WORLD
When I started Ms. McLean's book The List I was unprepared to be swept so completely into the story she wove.
I was enthralled, as I followed Harper, Wyatt, and a hist of characters through the maze of child trafficking, espionage, secret associations, and a paranormal ghost who instrumental in helping save the day.
A story of love, danger, and hope that leaves one clinging to the edge of their seat long after they should be asleep.
When a book grabs and holds me the way this one did I will be following and reading more from this author

Casi McLean’s 2nd book in her Deep State Mysteries takes Harper Drake, NCIS Director and Wyatt Rose, Assistant Director, and former love interest, and puts them against human traffickers. Helping them is Alyssa, Wyatt’s deceased sister and ghost extraordinaire. McLean is able to grab your heart and keep it pumping triple time as Harper gets caught up in her undercover role, Wyatt realizes he may be too late to reclaim what he had with her and a ghost not fully in control of her powers. Strap on your seat belts, folks. You’re in for a wild ride!

Gripping read
I was gripped.from the start and enjoyed all the twist in the storyline. It's got excitement scandal and a touch of the paranormal. Cant wait to read more of this series I definitely recommend this book.

A story that involves child sex trafficking, drugs, international espionage, murder and mayhem. A story that involves an NCIS team that knows how to get the job done and doesn't take no for an answer. Add in some romance and strong friendships, paranormal, lots of action and drama - be prepared to go on an emotional ride - this one brought tears to my eyes. Highly suggest you read book 1 of this series. Casi McLean certainly knows how to spin a tale and has created some awesome characters.

He & Duke (German shepherd) loved walking at night on the trails in this area.
Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF). The New Patriots group were housed here.
Hannah (16) got scared of Wyatt & Duke & took off running.
They found her & then introduced her to NCIS Director Harper Drake (NCIS).
He assembled a New Patriots team that consists of: Brad Miller (forensic photographer), Stephanie Brewer (USMC tactical maneuvers), Parker Teale (hand-to-hand combat, sharpshooter), Victor Price (hand-to-hand combat, sharpshooter) Kara Rhodes (security system expert, hacker), Gunny Logan Steel (physical manipulation skills), Emily Rose (Alyssa’s twin sister, psychic powers, investigative reporter), Ash (investigator), & Detective Ashton “Ash” Frasier (Homicide) to take down the human trafficking (slavery) for sexual exploitation ring that Hannah was a prisoner off.
The NCIS Citation touched down at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
The COSCO’s (cargo carrier) shipping containers were unloaded before they all arrived.
1 container contained Fentanyl.
There is a warehouse off # 1753 Old Dean Forest Rd.
Sergeant Wyatt & Parker cut the TV ties & led the youths to the van.
They headed back in to rescue Harper & all hell broke loose.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written suspense book. It
was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great suspense movie, or better yet a mini TV series. An extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

The List: Alyssa’s Revenge by USA Today bestselling author, Casi McClean, is the second book in the Deep State Mysteries series. Set in the Washington DC area with far reaching elements that end up in Morocco, this fast paced novel, like book one in the series, is also part political thriller, part steamy romance, and part paranormal.
Let me say this right at the start – I loved this book! Talk about edge of your seat suspense…I couldn’t put it down.
We get to become reacquainted with several characters who were featured in book 1, including the fiery protagonist, Emily Rose, dynamic detective Ashton Frasier, Emily's murdered twin sister Alyssa, who appears as a spirit, her amazing war veteran brother, Wyatt, and the brave Pets for Vets dog, Duke. In this second book in the series, we also get to delve deeper into veteran Harper Drake’s mind and heart, and her relationship with Wyatt. I really enjoyed this strong woman’s character.
As I mentioned in my review of book 1, although it wasn’t the primary theme in this story, I absolutely love the elements of the wounded warrior and the dog who has become an integral part of the series. He’s a keeper.
A deep sense of patriotism rings through the pages. Our war veterans, their siblings, and the spirit of Alyssa become integral in saving the lives of many children who are in terrible peril in The List.
From page one—where the young girl Hanna escapes from her horrendous kidnapper’s lair, leaving a frightened sister behind, but sadly unable to free her—your heart will pound out of your chest with suspense. The horror of the bad guys is tenable and will shoot shivers down your spine. And what he wants to do to these innocent children will make you sick.
But our heroes become quickly involved, thanks to Alyssa’s spirit, and now the children have a chance!
Please keep writing this series, Ms. McClean. Kudos!!

This is an emotional rollercoaster ride to healing and love.This story will keep you in the edge of your seat .Wyatt came back from Afghanistan wound so bad it ended his military career.He lost his legs when a bomb went off .He pushes Harper the woman he loves away because he felt like less a man.She didn't need to be stuck with him and all his issues .Harper is the director of NCIS and the head of the New Patriots .When Wyatt is walking to try an clear his demons his dog runs to him but something is bothering his dog so he follows an discovers a young girl that has bruises an is scared half to death.She's been a victim of a sex trafficking ring the man that has her and other children was Damien .She asks for help.There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.I voluntarily decided to review this advanced reader copy because it's a great adult suspense filled paranormal romance story and I wanted other avid readers to know it's so worth reading.

An unusual theme, as crime fighting is taken to another and secretive height.
Drug trafficking, child trafficking, paedophiles and blackmail of a high ranking politician by a Secretary of state. Plenty of action - need more ? - three of the elite group are siblings. Well two are members, the third Alyssa ,is a ghost, having been murdered by the Association, a group of the baddest people on earth.
A child escapes the trafficking rings storage area, having been unconsciously helped by Alyssa .
She takes a canoe and paddles to an island park, which happens to be cover for the NCIS patriots group. A select group targeted with bringìng the Association down, led by the director of NCIS, Harper.
The young girl, Hanna gives the info on the child abuse. This later ties into a watch being held on Aquastar, as suspicions activities have pointed to fentanyl smuggling.
Harper and eleven children to be rescued from locked cages - divine intervention was needed. It came in the form of Alyssa, and she saved them, to be returned home to their parents.
A good story, with sub stories which complemented the main themes and free characters to you.
Well worth reading of you like something with a quirk.

A veteran from Afghanistan left him with a sense of patriotism and joined the New Patriots. Is it posable for Alyssa to have sent Hanna to him, how and why is the mystery?
Happer, NCIS director and a secret member of the New Patriots team, is in charge of Wyatt, his friend, and lover. She's aware that he struggles with the death of his sister, nightmares from Afghanistan, and its consequences of the accident he had there. I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.
This is the second book in the Deep State Mysteries series. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger ending.
I liked the first book in this series, but for me, this one fell short. I know I am in the minority on this. The story involves sex trafficking [there are no graphic scenes]. The topic, in and of itself, did not bother me. However, I felt that I was being lectured to or in some way had to be convinced over and over again through character comments and narrative that sex traffickers are bad and this is horrible. The other issue I had was Alyssa. I got, in the first book, that she haunted/communicated with her twin sister because of their tight bond. But now, Alyssa is free-wheeling it around the world finding crimes - the sex traffickers -, helping the victims, and then reporting it all to her sister to come in to save the day. For me, it didn't quite make sense.
The narrator, Kristin James, is the same narrator for both books. She was fine. Several times there were repeats of phrases/sentences which were not caught in quality control.

There are five main characters: Emily Rose, an investigate reporter; Ashton Frasier, a detective and Emily’s love interest; Wyatt Rose, Emily’s brother, a severely injured veteran of Afghanistan; Harper Drake, the director of a shadowy group known as the New Patriots, who is also Wyatt’s boss and former lover, and Alyssa, Wyatt and Emily’s murdered sister, who is now a ghost.
Early in the book, Hanna, a young girl who was kidnapped by a child sex trafficking ring, manages to escape, with Alyssa’s help. Allyssa guides Hannah to a canoe, where she glides down a river and into the New Patriot’s secret den. From there, the good guys are on the case.
I liked this book a lot. The protagonists are well-rounded, with plenty of problems and obstacles to overcome. The bad guys are really bad, perhaps stereotypically so. There is romance, action and a conspiracy to influence the government of the United States at the highest level. It all moved briskly along to a very satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended.

Immediately after finishing the first book in Casi McLean’s Deep State Mysteries series, I dove into book two, ‘The List – Alyssa’s Revenge’. As with its predecessor, this one grabbed me from the first paragraph and did not let go until I had finished the book. Literally – the first two books in the series read and thoroughly enjoyed in less than 48 hours!
Again, the romantic suspense thriller vehicle served the author well as she tackled another horrific aspect of the erosion of the American Dream. This time the story centered on human trafficking, especially of young children. The tale reads like something pulled from the headlines on the nightly news summaries, yet blends in perfectly with the overall arc started in the ‘Reign of Fire’. The twins are back, as are the other major characters, all extremely credible and three-dimensional, and together they form the only solid anchor for the reader as the morality of people in positions of public trust is put under the microscope and found to be wanting.
Another superb and original tale from author McLean, and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to see where she takes this highly-original premise. Brilliant!

Revenge is So Sweet
First of all, if you haven't read Reign of Fire, Deep State Mysteries 1, read that first. But have tissues handy. That book was good but there were sad parts.
Secondly, I just love it when the good guys cause all kinds of mayhem and grief for the bad guys! This book made me mad because it deals with jerks exploiting, terrorizing and abusing kids. There isn't a deep enough pit in Hell for the low lifes who make a profit or even just get their kicks that way.
Thirdly, (semi-spoiler alert) the good guys win, Allyssa-a vengeful ghost, makes the bad guys wish they had never crossed her. Alyssa's siblings get some closure and healing and happiness. And to top it off, the book is set at the most wonderful time of the year.
I loved this book in case you couldn't tell. Excellent work Ms. McLean! Keep it up. Now, when can I expect my next all-day readathon? I haven't put this book down for a day and a half. Best page-turner I've read in a while. Can't wait for the next one. Merry Christmas

Wow, this second book in the Deep State Mystery series is not only timely but feels like it could be a front page of current events. Ms. McClean has touched a nerve in today's world where there is so much deception and abhorrent criminal activity. While members of the deep state are involved in sex and child trafficking, it is up to Harper and a selected group of patriots to stop these horrific crimes that has touched her team. Wyatt, her former lover who has left her life abruptly due to a war injury-a bad war injury-has joined her team with his own set of unique skills needed to round out her squad. Wyatt is dealing with pain, loss and a sense of failure from all sides but his deep patriotic connection to Harper's team and to Harper, makes him an asset. Love story, war story, sex/child trafficking story, this fast-paced novel will keep you up at night until you turn the last page.
This is the second book I've read in the Deep State Mystery series and I can't wait to read the rest!

The List is the second in the Deep State Mystery series, with a flair of the supernatural mixed with a bit of suspense; will have the readers coming back for more. An engaging story with hard-hitting suspense and astonishing evens; grabs the readers from page one. The readers will be moved by the storyline; which is filled with political intrigue, crime, ghost, and romance; hits this one out of the park.
Be prepared to go on an emotional ride, that totally sucks the reader in and has the pages turning in this amazing book where; intrigue and suspense, romance and strong friendships are pulled together in a well written story by an amazing author. Ms. Casi McLean has a great writing talent for spinning a tale and creating awesome characters with undeniable chemistry, that work well together. It is suggested to read Reign of Fire, book 1 of the Deep State Mysteries series, first; but it is not necessary.
I really loved and enjoyed this book; I was not able to put the book down all day, the best page-turner. I appreciate it, when the good guys cause chaos and misery for the bad guys! I cannot wait for the next one. I now have, another new author to be proud of reading. Thank you, Ms. McLean for sharing this excellent work with us; deserving of a 5-star rating. Well Done!!

Be prepared to go on an emotional ride, that totally sucks the reader in and has the pages turning in this amazing book where; intrigue and suspense, romance and strong friendships are pulled together in a well written story by an amazing author. Ms. Casi McLean has a great writing talent for spinning a tale and creating awesome characters with undeniable chemistry, that work well together. It is suggested to read Reign of Fire, book 1 of the Deep State Mysteries series, first; but it is not necessary.
I really loved and enjoyed this book; I was not able to put the book down all day, the best page-turner. I appreciate it, when the good guys cause chaos and misery for the bad guys! I cannot wait for the next one. I now have, another new author to be proud of reading. Thank you, Ms. McLean for sharing this excellent work with us; deserving of a 5-star rating. Well Done!!

The opening sequence will grab your attention! This is one action-packed book. I couldn't put it down.
Hannah escapes from a sex trafficking ring and wants to save her sister. Wyatt and Harper go after the ring but get there too late. When they get a hot tip about the Deep State, will they abandon the girls to focus on their primary mission? As things heat up between Wyatt and Harper, can Wyatt overcome his demons to let her in?
Allyssa, Wyatt's ghostly sister, is the center of the action. I love the fact that we get to see more of Allyssa in this book. She has new powers and knows how to use them. I still have questions about her and hope to learn more about her in future books. I would really like to know what it is like on the other side and why she gets to interact with the living world.
You do not have to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one. It is a fantastic read. I recommend it to adult paranormal thriller fans.

The List is an all round great read. It manages to hit all the best themes and genres - political thriller, ghost story, romance, wounded warrior, human trafficking, - and it does it so well that it doesn't feel crowded or gratuitous.
This story has great characters, a tight and carefully plotted story line that rarely gives you a chance to catch your breath, all the suspense you can handle and a feel good ending that begs a movie presentation just so the audience can cheer in the aisles.
I started the book without realizing it was volume 2 of a series (yes, I know. I should have read the blurb) but fortunately it didn't matter. The plot and characters are mostly self-contained, although you can bet I'll be picking up the first book so I can get the back stories, just as soon as my heart rate gets back to normal from the thrill ride this one offered.
If you're looking for a book that's a little bit of everything and a great story to boot, this should be your next read.

This book is so gripping and totally impossible to put down, I read deep into the night and was captivated throughout. I really like Casi McLean’s writing style because it is easy to read no matter how dark and dangerous the storyline gets. I love how she doesn’t shy away from difficult topics and ideas and this book is no exception.
The plot is intriguing, engaging and never predictable, just when you think you know what will happen next something twists and everything changes again. I really engaged with the characters in this book. I love Harper’s strength and empathy. I like her courage in the face of danger and also in those everyday moments too. Wyatt is a fantastic character and his journey is really moving. It also shows how much self-belief matters. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster throughout but it was an amazing read. I thoroughly recommend it as a must read.

I love this story and I'm so glad this is part of a series. I'm just not done with these wonderful characters. Every member of this secret government team has their own special skills. My favorite is Alyssa, a ghost! She's awesome! There are potential love connections but, as life will have it, there are complications. The guarded heart of a wounded warrior is so close to my own love. That's another thing I love about this book. It's written so well that it appeals to both male and female readers. This story flows so seamlessly that it's an easy one session read. I didn't want to take a break. There are so many personal stories that need to be told about the members of this team. Thankfully, Casi McLean is letting these wonderful characters share their lives with us.
