Oh my goodness! This maga is soooo cute and dramatic! I love it! If I remember correctly, it is the first mana in general that I ever read! I still love it! So many unexpected twists and turns....!
Kamichama Karin is by no means a perfect manga, but I've always loved it. True to Koge-Donbo style, at first glance, this is over the top cute which may or may not put people off. Her works are usually a strange mixture between over the top cute, ridiculous humour sprinkled with darker elements that don't surface until later down the line - Kamichama Karin is no exception.
There are elements of magical girl, characters can take on a god form which are loosely based on greek gods. It's very much up in the air as to why they can turn into gods or what their exact goals are, but it's utterly hilarious. I love the characters, their arguments, their silly antics. It's not until quite late in the game that we actually receive some answers. And I'll be honest here, I was so disappointed when I read the ending years ago. So many new elements are sprung at the very last minute, almost turning this into more of a sci-fi work, and it feels like we barely scratch the surface before it concludes.
Despite the lack of proper closure, I've always considered this a favourite manga, which just goes to show how much I enjoyed the characters and humour. Not long after my first read, I found out that there is a sequel - hurrah! Although I picked up those volumes years ago, I never got around to reading them, but I am hopeful that we will find out more about what actually caused the events of Kamichama Karin.
This was a charming little magical girl series, with interesting twists at the end that explained a LOT (but not all) of the mysteries surrounding the characters. The only real downside was the lack of good online scans, so some of the exposition made little to no sense, but the general vibes were still fun and adorable. (Still don't get what's the DEAL with Kirio.... the guy needs to take a chill pill.... or several.)
Also, it took till the last two volumes for me to finally be onboard with the main "ship" lol, but that's early 2000's shoujo romance in a nutshell. Nonsensical bickering, with some genuinely sweet bonding towards the end.
Definitely my kind of fluff. Read the manga alongside the anime, and both were charming and a lot of fun!
Some of the plot twists in this volume were insane!! My mind is just blown in so many ways. I hope I can find the sequel series on Amazon or something so I can continue.
After finishing the series, I made the decision not to write a review for all of the books and instead simply write a review on Volume 7 that would cover my thoughts on the series as a whole. I. Loved. It. This was my third manga series, and I loved it just as much as anything else I've read. The art, for one, was spectacular. Sometimes mangakas don't pay attention much to their characters outfits, which is something that bothers me, being the fashion guru that I am. But in this book the outfits were so adorable and just made the characters. Also, every character was so unique and lovable in their own way, even the bad guys. The plot was fabulous, with new discoveries waiting behind every page. It also had some romance, which is something I look forward to in a manga series, since most of the characters I love myself. I will definitely look into reading the next series, Kamichama Karin-Chu, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's into mahou shoujo manga or just any type of cutesy, humorous, light manga.
All's well that ends well. Or so I think. I really did enjoy the finale and would have given this volume 5 stars if only it hadn't seemed so rushed. I understand that things are explained in the sequel Kamichama Karin Chu but I still think too much information was given in too little a space.
I only ever managed to read the first volume of the sequel series which was also a very long time ago so I can't really remember if this issue was dealt with in that one or the volumes following it.
However, I would have to say that the plot was very creative and as always, it was as humourous and beautiful as all the previous volumes. Overall I did really enjoy the first arc of Kamichama Karin and I have high hope for my re-read of the sequels first volume and then the rest.
Mini-goddess Karin) is a Japanese manga originally written by Koge-Donbo about a seventh grade girl named Karin who finds out that she can transform into a goddess.
Kamichama Karin is so awesome! The drawings are adorable and the storyline is intricate and intriguing. I would recommend it to all anime and manga lovers!
