Whittaker Jones could have funded the Interior Department’s conservation budget with his own pinup calendar.

The last thing this sexy forest ranger wanted was to go on a search and rescue mission for a stubborn college co-ed throwing a temper tantrum. He’s got a hot date manning his front porch like a grumpy old man in his rocker with a carton of take-out for dinner.

Amelia Rae Faust hates the outdoors, man buns, and lying, crush stealing roommates.

A hike in the woods turned into an existential vision quest for the girl without a plan. She wasn’t supposed to get lost, or have a one night stand with the surly forest ranger. His body heat is far too tempting and a night of survival becomes something more.

Book three in the Love By Design series of stand alone contemporary romantic comedies.

So I am trying to catch up to my reviews and it has been hard, I read a lot but forget to review or sometimes I just dont have time to review or am somewhere where I am reading but dont have the capability to review, so as I mentioned I am catching up so please forgive me and forgive my ramblings or that I dont write much and that is a couple reasons for that. first I dont like writing long reviews- I figured the author already gave us a story you dont need one from me, second I dont like giving spoilers, and third I prefer my time reading. ok back to story it was funny. We have a student who is lost in the woods and is luckily saved by a hottie Park Ranger things get nice and heated between them but it will only be for the night, or will it? They have some differences between them, one being age and another being their lives but can they overcome it? I think so..Enjoy!

4 Stars!

M.C. Cerny is back with the third standalone romcom in this fantastic series and y'all, that cover and that blurb... it's what initially drew me in but what's within the pages was unputdownable and unforgettable and this book is definitely being added to my reread list.

Heartburn was a really good romance... age gap that had my heart beating soooo fast (I'm a sucker for these!!) and a forest ranger that had me with all the swoony eyes. A fast read packed with laughs, heart, steam, and relatable characters.

Lia and Whit... I liked both of them but Whit **sigh**. These two lit up my kindle from the first moments they stepped onto the page with their fun, sexy, flirty, sweet, laugh out loud journey. Undeniable chemistry. Fun banter. Steamy heat. A few complications along the way. Lia and Whit told a lighter, easier romance that will leave you just feeling.... good.

Hands down THE BEST in this series to date and I was lucky enough to be able to read books one, two and three back to back. If you like your books easier with loads of laughs, heat, swoony moments, and a small town feel then the Love By Design series is a must read.

I definitely recommend this book.

Book three and it's kinda picking up for me in the liking department as far as this series is concerned. This time we have a park ranger who is funny and all-around great guy and has fallen for a young woman who is still figuring out what her deal is. As you can imagine they hit a few bumps on the way but they manage to get around them in order to finally see that they are meant to be.

This story had a few eye-roll moments due to age difference but It was still an enjoyable read. I'm hoping next one will (finally) make me fall in love completely with these characters. Another (light) 4* read.

Good romance
Very good romance, well written with an original beginning, because Amélia, a student, gets lost in the woods following a disappointment as well friendly as sentimental. She is saved by Whit who is a Ranger in the park where she got lost and they spend the night together for one night stand only. But quickly, both understand that even if they did not look for each other, they may have found the one they missed.
The points of disagreement appear especially on their age and status difference: he is 28 years old and works, has friends who are like him, and she has 20, is a student, living the experiences of students who are not compatible with his life.

Steamy story set in the Love By Design world that gives us our favorite park ranger and his story with a co-ed at the local university. This story proves that age is just a number, but chemistry and respect is everything! Fun read!

I hate leaving bad reviews, but this is not a well written book. The storyline had a lot of promise, but the execution was not well done. An editor needs to take a long look at this book, as it is full of grammatical errors. There are tons of run on sentences, missing commas, incomplete sentences, spelling errors, verb tense changes mid paragraph and story, etc. This makes it very difficult to follow the book. I am happy to overlook the occasional typo, but when the sentence structures are so poorly done that I have to re-read a sentence several times in order to figure out where the missing commas go, or what the verb was supposed to be in order to figure out what the sentence is trying to say- that’s bad.

The flow is also incredibly choppy- like flitting from cut to cut, but nothing connecting the dots in between. After Whit and Lia part ways the first time, he meets with his friends, they give him advice, and then the next scene is weeks later, it seems, but there is zero attention given to the passing time. These cuts in time happen all over the book. I don’t need a play by play of every moment of every day, but a loose timeline helps the reader make sense of the events. Changing from past to present to past tense doesn’t help the flow either.

Conversation is really stilted- again, it reads choppy and it feels like there is information missing in the story that would help the reader understand the conversation better. Conversations and thoughts allude to past events, but those past events are not, or are barely, addressed, so it’s all just confusing. A lot of the conversation is just rambling and doesn’t even add to the story.

The characters are super immature. Lia is a brat and incredibly childish in her behavior. Maybe this is done to accentuate the age difference (which is pointed out every few pages, we get it), but honestly it is a huge turn off and Whit doesn’t seem bothered by her immaturity (at least until about 70% of the way through the book) because the sex is good. In fact, they really don’t seem to have much in common at all besides sex. There are all these philosophy references, but the characters don’t actually engage in any meaningful deep conversations. Most of the conversations are just arguments disguised as foreplay. Constant immature arguing isn’t a turn on.

And the lollipop scene? Can I just say eewwww!

Super steamy story where the man falls hard for the girl
Amelia Rae Faust aka Lia is mad as He!! b/c she just found her boyfriend-to-be lip-locked with her roommate on a camping trip where she had other plans. She’s stomping through the woods calling him everything she can think until she realizes she’s lost AND just felt a twinge in her leg during one of her more aggressive stomps. Then the cheaters’ voices are heard and she hides. When they leave, she sets out to go back but now she knows she’s really and truly lost. It begins to rain and she’s so not ready for this.
Whittaker Jones, one fine-looking ranger man gets an emergency to go find some crazy college kid lost in the woods and just as he’s heading home after a twelve-hour shift. He finds Lia and their meet-cute is not all that cute, but things heat up like the fire they make in an abandoned cabin until daylight. What was supposed to be a one-night-stand may be more…Can they overcome Lia’s insecurities and Whit’s jealousy and over-protectiveness?
Oh. My. I LOVED this book. Although Whit is 28yo to Lia’s 20yo, they feel ages apart sometimes. He’s doing his career thing and she’s in college. Can they make it work? This is another standalone story in the “Love By Design” series and it comes highly recommended for readers who like their men buff, their women strong (albeit unsure) and lots of naughty. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout.

I really enjoyed this story. It started out a little shaky for me, but I really enjoyed Amelia (Lia) and Wittaker (Witt) figuring out that they were probably meant for more. Lia is in college and goes camping with some "friends" but gets upset and goes for a walk without knowing where she is going. Witt is a park ranger and he has to go and find Lia when she doesn't find her way back to camp. You would think they wouldn't work, but they do and actually complement each other. There were lots of feels with this book, including a lot of laughs.

I did get frustrated with the age difference being brought up by all of the characters constantly (they are 8 years apart) when it's not that big of a difference. The wake up call was a little harder than I expected, but it worked to resolve the angst (or at least, most of it!). I liked that they were together in the end, but I'm not sure I can say they got a happy ever after since I felt like the story ended abruptly. I would have liked an epilogue further down the road than just when Lia returned from her trip.

This was an enjoyable romance with plenty of steam and I liked both Lia and Witt (Witt a little more!). I would love to see stories about the supporting characters in the book. This was my first book by this author and I'm looking forward to reading more. Definitely recommend giving this one a read!

M.C. Cerny keeps delivering in her “Love by Design” book series. This time we meet Lia, a 20 year old college student and Whit a 28 year old forest ranger. Whit rescues Lia after she gets lost in the forest. From there on the sparks begin to fly. There’s only one problem - the age difference. Lia is still trying to find her way and is enjoying her newly found independence and falling into the usual college experiences. She feels like an outsider when they are with Whit’s friends. Whit is afraid that she will tire of him and return to her friends without him. Several times he is sounding like her father instead of lover when she engages into college behaviors. Adding into the age difference are the quips from his friends about the age difference, and his jealousy.

This series has been one that you want to keep following. Each one is different from the other, but the main characters are all friends. However, it is not a necessity to read them in sequence to enjoy just one, but you will want to get them all!

Age doesn’t always matter

This story was easy to read, and I’ll definitely be looking for more books written by this author! In fact, I now feel compelled to read the first two of this series!

Amelia and Whit’s story keeps you intrigued, as two very likable and relatable characters. Lia is 20 year-old college student who goes on a camping trip with some friends from the football team. On this trip, her roommate/so-called friend, hooks up with the football star she came to be with. Her feelings are obviously hurt, and she runs off into the woods to get away from the situation, and subsequently gets lost. The ranger station is alerted when she doesn’t return. Enter Whit… he’s a 28 year-old park ranger, that happens to find and rescue Lia.

Despite the age gap, there’s plenty of undeniable chemistry between the two of them. Lia is finding herself and her independence, which lends itself to some serious fun and flirtation. While it’s sweet, it’s also sexy and steamy. But will they get their HEA?

M.C. Cerny will keep you entertained and has a way to keep you engaged with each characters.
Amelia is 20 year old student of New Paltz University who’s undecided what she wants to major in. She goes out on a camping trip With friends and her roommate Dinah, planning to sleep with her crush football player Ryder. Dinah ends up hooking up with Ryder and Amelia runs off into the forest & off the path where she get lost and now its dark and raining. Her so called friend end up calling for help.
Whit is a forest ranger and he’s 28. He just wanted his shift to be over and go seat on his porch with a beer and dinner. When he had to go save Amelia and saw her he felt something that he hasn’t felt in a long time. They both feel the chemistry between them but Whit is jealous of the university boys that Amelia see, and he knows she was to hook up with Ryder at the camp! The age difference and his friends jokes, her life decisions are things for them to think about! You’ll love the witty back & forth that the characters have. The love & hate & jokes the group have will make you laugh!

I was super excited to get to read Whit and Lia’s story because I thought the idea of him rescuing her and an age gap was super cute. Whit is a forest ranger and is sent out to find a missing college student that wondered off. He is a super alpha, hot, stubborn man but his attraction to Lia is undeniable and he refuses to let this go. Lia is a college student only 8 years younger than Whit, she is smart, talented, stubborn, and tired of being under the microscope of her mother, so she is all about her independence. I loved that Whit knew exactly what he wanted but at times would struggle with the age difference from time to time, although I didn’t find it to be a big deal because Lia was an old soul and wise for her age. Lia did struggle with the young adult issues we all suffered from and that is what do we want to do with our lives and finding ourselves. After a scare with Whit, Lia finally realizes she doesn’t want to give up what they have, and I adored how supportive Whit was of Lia and helping her follow her dreams. I can’t wait for more of the gang.

I like Whit. I think I’ve always liked Whit. There’s just something special about his brand of ‘strong silent type’. It works for me. I liked Lia too. I’m twice her age and I still feel like I haven’t made any more headway deciding what to do with my life than she has. I can totally sympathise with her. They have the kind of meet-cute that romance novels are made of. Case in point. But there’s a whole lot of fuss and bother over the eight year difference in their ages. Too much for what the difference really deserves. And calling quotation marks “commas” has the grammarian in me throwing a temper tantrum. There’s actually several little spelling and grammar things like that which made me twitch, but since it’s light years better than the first two books in the series, I was able to overlook most of them. Whit and Lia were able to bring me past the jaw clenching frustration the first two couples left me with. Now I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Chase.

Hunting His Woodland Pixie

I liked this story most of the time. I'd hit the occasional part that would draw me in and keep me engaged for a bit, but it didn't bother me at all that it took several months to read.

It had a promising beginning as Ranger Whittaker "Whit" Jones went on the hunt for a very lost Amelia "Lia" Rae Faust. Even though I had mixed feelings on her level of brattiness, I really liked things between them while they took shelter from a storm. My interest started to fizzle once they left the little bubble they were in.

Whit was everything a man should be…rough and gentle, honest and funny… and yet I wasn’t able to fully appreciate that.
-- Amelia Rae Faust

The age gap that they took turns having issues with grew old really fast. They also weren't always honest with each other about things that they should have been. That didn't sit well with me.

That said, there was some great, witty banter that I really liked.

Heartburn is going to leave you with a huge smile on your face and a happy sigh. I have loved getting to know this tight group of friends and knew I'd want Whit and Lia's story!

Whit is so freaking sweet. Did not expect that at all! He literally falls head over heels for the quirky and insecure Lia. Whit shows his sweet side as well as his insecure side. Lia is sweet and sassy. I loved her old soul. She may be 20, but her soul is much older. She goes toe to toe with Whit and I loved their verbal foreplay!

I feel this book so hard! I met the love of my life when I was 21 and he was 32. So I could relate with Lia a lot. We had the same ups and downs they did, but came out better for it. Whit and Lia will knock you off your feet! They just ooze love. As much as I loved this story, I did feel that it was a bit rushed towards the end. I wish we had a bit more of Whit and Lia in their new transition. Overall, it was a solid read with solid characters and I hate that it ended!

Heartburn is the third book in the Love By Design series by M.C. Cerny. The novel is a fun romance between Amelia (Lia) Faust, a college student disgusted with roommates who steal the guy your crushing on and the outdoors, and Whit Jones, a forest ranger. They meet when Lia becomes lost in the forest due to her preoccupation on her roommate and the guy she wanted to date. Whit is sent out on a search and rescue mission to find her. Lia is found by Whit and they spend a steamy night sharing body heat and more. Whit and Lia are strongly attracted to each other and end up going to Vegas for a bachelor/bachelorette party which also includes a planned trip to meet Whit’s parents. There is an eight year difference in the couple’s age which is a worrying factor in their relationship. I strongly suggest reading this wonderful rom-com novel.

Lia goes camping with her college friends. When she finds the guy she likes kissing her roommate, she takes off. Walks away, without her jacket or backpack. When the weather turns nasty, her friends beg the ranger to look for her. Whit finds her - finally - but they're both soaked, the rain isn't letting up, and the temp is dropping. They spend a passion-fueled night in an abandoned cabin. When she leaves the next day with her friends, he's feeling dejected. He's not used to that - he's a player, and doesn't do relationships. But he can't stop thinking about her. This is a great book, and it has it all - steamy moments, a little drama, a bit of action, a hot park ranger, and a sassy coed. These two have laugh out loud banter, and unbelievable chemistry. The books in the series have all been good, but this one is my favorite.

Whit Jones works as a ranger with the Park Service and feels like a grumpy old man at 28. Just wants to go home but ends up looking for a lost college student. He is instantly attracted to Amelia (Lia) who got lost after she was upset that her roommate hooked up with her crush. Lia feels like she doesn't fit in and is having trouble picking a major and feels pressured by her parents to get her life in order. Lia acts on her attraction to Whit and asks for one night fling with him. After their night together Whit is surprised at how strongly he wants to have a relationship with her. He is protective of her . He is afraid that her roommates influence is going to get her in trouble. Whit friends tease him about the age difference, Lia is 20. Whit invites her to Vegas for a bachelor-bachelorette party but wants to meet her parents first. She start to spread her wings when she discovers her love of photography.

Lighter Young Adult Read
I thought this was a hot and fast romance, easy to read, mostly feel good.
Whit being 28 and Lia only 20, the age difference seems huge, especially when friends start their razzing. Lia wants her space to find herself and Whit is overly jealous, thinking she will move back to her younger crowd. Neither one is that secure in themselves, or that this will last forever until fate steps in, obliterating all the small stuff that shouldn't matter.
Story intent was good, characters started out very likable with snark and intelligence being a turn on for both of them lol.
Moving on not so sure there was as much love as there was lust throughout. I didn't feel the soul mate bond like I wanted and the jealous trait of Whit did not endear him to me, while Lia did, at times, act immature. The ending was HOT.

Amelia and Whit’s story keeps you intrigued. Amelia a college student goes on a camping trip with some friends from the football team. She brings her roommate who hooks up the the football star she came to be with. Hurt she runs off into the woods to get away and gets lost. They college kids then go to the ranger station when Amelia (Lia) doesn’t return.

Park ranger Whit Jones goes off looking for her. He finds her and it has been raining and she is soaked and lost and cold. Ranger Jones starts helping back to his Jeep when his flashlight goes out. She is shivering and he knows of an abandoned cabin. He takes her there. In efforts to stay warm with the fire will they hook up?

Can they find love or just lust? Does Lia choose the ranger or the frat boys? You will have to read to find out!

Whit stole my heart. I really enjoyed this book. It kept me intrigued and up later than I should have stayed up. He didn’t really think he wanted a series relationship until he met Lia. Lia is a college student who has horrible luck with men she gets lost in the woods. He saves her and sparks fly.
She prefaced their night together as a one night thing so the next morning they are both awkward. He can’t stop thinking about her and finds her. I appreciated the fact that he didn’t let her walk away and was honest enough to admit to her that he wanted to get to know her better.
I have enjoyed this entire series and can’t wait for Tailwind. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

Opposites that fit together

Heartburn is about Whittaker(Whit) and Amelia (Lia). They are opposites in a lot of ways and this causes more than a few issues in their relationship. But they do fit together in a lot of ways also, not the least with some sizzling chemistry. They have to sort through their feelings, expectations and wants in order to determine if they really should be together or not.
This story had a number of funny moments along with romance and hot steamy chemistry. I thought parts of this story were good while others were a bit much, like the harping on the age difference between Whit and Lia, him twenty-eight and she twenty. For the most part this was a good story-line with interesting characters.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

This is the third installment in the Love by Design series and focuses on Whit and Amelia's relationship. Whit is a park ranger and meets Amelia while rescuing her in the forest after she gets lost. The only thing that I didn't like about this story was how much of the story was spent dealing with the difference in ages between Whit and Lia. This seemed to be Whit's main problem throughout the entire book. They do have some depth-filled moments, but a lot of their time is spent either having sex or arguing over her "youthful" exploits and acquaintances. The characters in the first two books definitely pop-up quite a bit, so I would recommend reading the books in order, but they can also stand alone for the most part.

Amelia "Lia" is college girl, who gets in a snit gets lost in the woods and Whittaker Jones "Whit" goes on a search and rescue and finds sparks that flame to life. I like Whit much more than I like Lia in the beginning of this story. I like the chemistry. I like their interaction. I do not like so much how quickly she "gets over" and moves on from her crush on Ryder. I do not think the age gap should have been such a big deal. I like that Whit seems to know what he wants and I like that Lia learns and grows. I like the parts of the secondary characters that we get to see. I do not like the seemingly shallowness in Whit when we first meet him, in regard to his attitude about his love life. Overall a good story.

What a sensational romantic comedy, filled with witty banter, humor, laughter, insecurities, passion, friendship, and love. Witt is a park ranger who's as mature as any 28 year old would be. Enter Lia a somewhat naive 20 year old who is trying to discover who she is and they have a disaster waiting to happen. Or do they? Witt and Lia must learn to communicate without fighting and trust each other in order to overcome overprotectiveness, naivety, jealousy, and insecurities. Heartburn is a hilarious and emotional must read that readers won't want to put down and characters readers will fall in love with. I absolutely enjoyed reading this book and I can't wait for Tailwind to be released.

Amelia and Whit met when she got lost during a camping trip with friends. They had instant chemistry which led to them having sex, calling it a one night stand. But Whit could not get her out of his mind. But is it wise to pursue something more with someone years younger than him? Amelia challenged him in ways he never expected and they easily fell in more than just friendship and quickly he was wanting more than what she was ready for. Then he got caught in a forest fire and Amelia realized that she would not be able to stand losing him. This is a story about two people learning how to open yourself to the possibility of loving someone and letting yourself trust enough to take the next step.

I don’t always read romance, but I’m glad I read this book. The dialogue was spot on! Sometimes nippy and biting, I enjoyed the banter between Whit and Lia more than anything else. The characters were witty and didn’t always agree or get along, and the conflict is what kept the story moving.

The story was told from both points of view, which made it fun. Even as I learned the motives and thoughts of each of them, I was entertained. They were both strong and sometimes sarcastic. I liked the back and forth format, and it kept up the momentum while feeling perfectly paced.

If you’re bored with typical romance and want to read a book that has steamy scenes and hilarious dialogue, I would highly recommend Heartburn!

Lia is a college student who has been trying to attract the attention of the star quarterback with the help of her roommate only to find out her roommate has decided that she wants him for herself. All she wanted was to get away and now finds herself stranded in the woods.

Whit is the forest ranger who has been tasked with finding Lia which is the last thing he wanted to do this evening. However now that he is rescued her he is not sure he wants to give her up.

Fun and flirty there was no denying the chemistry between them but I really enjoyed watching them trying to maneuver the rest of their relationship.
