DNF at 18% // As someone who is also experiencing quarter life crisis, I don't think reading a fictional story about it will help me at all.

Finding Happy is a story about the journey of Ma. Happy Asuncion to self-discovery and self-love. The story is that simple but it gets so 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 because it presents the struggles of being a young adult—heartaches, existential crisis and trying to make things work no matter how out of control life gets.

I could relate with Happy in her struggles with her career because, just like her, there came a point in my life that I asked myself, "𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘢 𝘱𝘢 𝘣𝘢 𝘢𝘬𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘸𝘢 𝘬𝘰?" (Am I still happy with what I'm doing?). The answer was no so I ventured out to look for better opporrunities. Also, I admire Happy on how dedicated she is. She tries the best that she can and puts her heart on whatever she decides on. So I was glad that Happy was able to pursue her passion at the end.

I appreciate how this book was filled with so much hope. Every chapter starts with a quote about life or love that relates to the chapter. One of my faves is: "When you love yourself enough, you wouldn't need anybody else." This reminded me how important self-love is and that I shouldn't need anyone else to complete me.

At this point, I have already mentioned the things I like about the book so the cons are next. First of all, the story is very predictable which is a downfall of slice of life themed stories since they have a linear format. Second, the writing style needs more polishing and editing. I have spotted a lot of grammatical errors and it wasn't fun having it distract me from reading. And lastly, I think the plot twist fell short on trying to evoke an emotional response from me. Yes, I was shocked but I think the author could have utilized it better to further make the readers feel the full impact of the sadness and tragedy of it.

Overall, Finding Happy is a story that was only able to slightly touch my heart. It had potential but the execution wasn't enough. Yet atleast it was able to remind the importance of finding what makes one happy.
