This book has a wonderful selection of practices for parents (and regular individuals) to use in their daily lives. As a mindfulness practitioner, many of the ideas are not new, however, it provides some helpful reminders and methods to introduce mindfulness into our lives without requiring a formal practice. The book is also short and concise, perfect for a busy parent who may feel they don't have a lot of time to dedicate to reading through a giant tome. I also enjoyed the thoughtful suggestions on how to modify and share some of these exercises with children. The rituals she has recommended are unique and have made me consider other potential rituals that I can integrate into my life, for the better.
I genuinely appreciate Nicole's honest advice and being vulnerable enough to share some of her own struggles and trials. It makes it easier to relate to and she injects just the right amount of humor. I think that this would be an invaluable guide to anyone who wants to incorporate more mindfulness into their and their families lives.
This book was gifted to me by a dear friend and I love it! It’s not the kind of book you read all the way through in one sitting. There are different themes and exercises that make it easy to pickup for a few minutes here and there.
I received a review copy of this book. It was a good reminder how to use mindfulness in my day to day life. I didn't really learn anything new other than some ways to teach kids some basic mindfulness with family games and routines. A quick read.
Parenting is tough, no question there. And no matter how hard you work at it, you won't be mindful every minute. You won't feel grateful everyday. Nicole Libin, author of Mindful Parenting in a Chaotic World, understands, and reminds us that that's totally okay.
I think each new parent should get a handful of books to help me - owner's manuals, if you will. This book would be on my suggested reading list.
This is a short book - 100 pages - that even the busiest parent can manage to squeeze in. The practice ideas are easy to fit into everyday life. Libin also offers suggestions of when to use each one. I also love that each practice includes tips for sharing it with the children in your life. She is excellent at bringing the exercise to a child's level - whether a preschooler or teen or somewhere in between.
"Mindful" has become a trendy word in the past few years but what does it mean? I've been inconsistently trying to practice mindfulness and never considered how it relates to parenting. This short book helped clarify some misconceptions I had. It encourages you to be present with your child while they're at their best and worst. I'm not sold on the tips to get your children involved but they will follow by your example.
Thanks to Callisto's Publisher Club for gifting this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and annotating it. It’s helped me better understand and redirect my parenting. It’s coupled well with my parenting therapy and helped me understand myself and my children better. I’m grateful for this book!
