No one is safe.

In the shadows, Lilly’s enemies are closing in.
Toby is far from finished with his obsession to regain his control over her mind, body, soul and magic.

I'm not sure how much of a coherant thought I can form after finishing this in a ten hour straight reading session, but we will give it a go.

Two words. Soul destroying. This book literally ripped my heart out by the end. It is the most singularly heart breaking, ferociously dark and unforgiving piece of fantasy I've read in.. well, ever. Lawrie's unapologetic writing revels in pain and suffering, but also love and hope. The characters are so beautifully and painstakingly constructed, their emotions so tangible and real, it's impossible not to get sucked into their jaded world. And what a dark place it is. Every page has a new twist, a new punishment for the reader, a new form of heartbreak. But, like all truly good books, you can't help but go back for more.

In summary, I could realistically talk about how much I love these books all day and gush continually in all my fan girl glory, but simply, this series is phenomenal and deserves to be chart topping the fantasy genre. I will be nervously, slightly traumatised, awaiting the final installment.

P.S. The sky is absofuckinglutely pink 🥰

Unfortunately this book didn’t live up to the first. It was slow, repetitive and nothing happens except Lilly being tortured. I skipped from chapter 10 to chapter 33 and basically all I needed to know from the book happens there, they actually recap everything that happened in the chapters I skipped and then wrapped up the book. There is some satisfying revenge but sadly as a whole, it just didn’t work for me. I’m probably not going to read the third.

Wow.... a reading journey that takes your heart and squeezes it, that plays with your emotions, makes you gasp, scream and hope you never arrive at the end. I lost so many hours sleep as I flew through this amazing book - I was incapable of putting it down.

It's a dark, gritty and determined fantasy. The author keeps you suspended in anticipation as she takes the deeply damaged, yet amazingly strong, main character through trials, love and persecution.

The Last Witch is a read you will never forget. M. J. Lawrie is an author you will reach for again and again. Sublime.

Oh man. Where to begin. I thought the first book broke me, I was wrong. This was something else.
Beautiful torture is how I would describe this book. Grips your heart and squeezes till it hurts, then eases enough to lure you back, the crushes it.. but in such a way you’re craving more. I sobbed and cursed my through this book, more so than the first, and yet, I am craving more. I’ll be miserable when I reach the end of this series.

Unputdownable reading. M.J.Lawrie has done it again. A masterful achievement in storytelling. Every time you think the characters are going to get a break the author twists their journey into something even darker. I loved how flawed Lily was and yet how strong and determined at the same time. I am also a sucker for forbidden love and this romance ticked all the boxes.

As the name suggests, The Last Witch: Volume Two, is the second book in The Last Witch trilogy written by M. J. Lawrie. It follows on directly from Volume One, so this is not a stand-alone novel. Again we suffer with Lilly Hooper, as she struggles to hold on to Gabriel, the love of her life, to protect her friends, and to regain her lost magic so that she can prevent all-out war. Lilly's enemies are plentiful: Toby, Witch Hunters, and even humans are now killing witches. But the biggest threat to Lilly and her happiness could be from those closest to her.

It's a fast-paced read, with the narration making it easy to fall into the story and be swept along with Lilly and her group as they try to stay one step ahead of all who want to see her dead. Lilly is out after Bloodstones, which will give her ultimate magic, enabling her to complete a spell to drop the Veil and return magic to the world—the scenes of her searching for these Bloodstones are gripping and filled with action. The characters are fully fleshed out and almost all have interesting and complex backstories, which make them believable and easier to love or hate. And readers probably won't be on the fence about these characters: you'll either love them or hate them, and that's a credit to the author. There are plenty of plot twists throughout the book that it seems there's some new revelation every other chapter, and this serves to keep the tension high.

There is a pattern of capture-torture-escape running throughout the series, which unfortunately has a repetitive feel to it, and it's a wonder Lilly survives so much violence (especially before her ability to heal) ... it's also a wonder why she doesn't just slink off into the night to escape everyone and this entire situation and live out her days as a hermit on some remote Scottish island. But she loves Gabriel, he loves her, and their bond is unbreakable—she'll do anything for him, he for her, and they do so countless times in these pages. Obviously, being a second book in a series, there is no resolution, but the ending was tragic, heartbreaking and contains a final twist that leaves me wondering if there is any chance of a happy ending at the climax of Volume Three.

What detracts in this volume is poor formatting issues, which places some paragraphs tight to the left hand margin instead of indented as they should be. There are also editing problems: misspelled words, missing words, and so forth—if the online edition hasn’t been altered since my purchase in December 2019 then it could benefit from a new round of edits. Despite these problems The Last Witch: Volume Two is a solid four-star read based on character, plot, and storytelling ability. It should appeal to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced series about fantasy and magic.

This book punched me in the heart 💔

This was a breeze to read because I couldn’t bare to part with it for a minute, and when I did my brain was driven to a different world entirely consumed by this story and wondering what was going to happen next. And by the end of it I’m so heartbroken and spent !
Okay that’s a lie I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for the next instalment 😓
If you like, fantasy, family drama, witches being badass bitches, magic, romance, plot twist after plot twist, poetic writing and an awful lot of darkness no really the characters don’t get many days off...then this is such a good read for you and I recommend you give it a chance.
The dark humour and sarcasm from the characters is leaking of the pages and I fucking loved it !
Gabriel and Lilly’s romance really has been a rollacoaster ride, I wasn’t sold on them at first but it has become such a beautiful love story I will tell to my kids they are definitely right for eachover, and my heart grew three sizes when Gabriel made that adorable speech to lilly in the back of the car.
And boy that ending hurt like a bitch. Amara was an angel hell who wouldn’t break losing a friend like her.
So all around this book was a big improvement from the first with pacing and overall story telling.
Cannot wait to continue the trilogy. 🖤

Holy hell this was like the first book but on bloody steroids. I wasn't allowed a moment to catch a breath as this set about delivering curveballs and plot twists galore. It was like a runaway train and the shocks just kept on coming. This series is dark and unpredictable and now I have finished I just need a hot second to check my bearings and process before diving into the finale as I just know it's gonna be mental.

This starts right where we left off and it was action all the way. Lily and Gabriel are in love but currently have to answer to Grayson as he does what he does best acting like a complete POS. With the hold he has over Lily's magic and also their friends' safety Lily currently has no choice but to play ball well at least for the moment.

Bad Shit goes down, the situation then escalates and from there and from that point on it was absolutely manic. We have a beautiful and heartfelt romance, unexpected betrayal, which if I'm honest did gut me slightly as I just never saw it coming. Lily comes into her own and embraces her power and destiny. Then finally a heart-wrenching finale that shatters what's left of Lily's heart.

I'm ready now for the final straight, to see how this will all play out, especially after the revelations and the finale from this book. This is an imaginative but dark series but it's a definite trip and a great read.

What an absolute whirl wind!

I didn’t think that it could get better than the first one but volume 2 takes the story to places that are heartbreaking, soul destroying, triumphant and daring. Lilly’s story and trials are hard to swallow but creates a breath taking world that you can’t help but live in. The pages turn before you even realise what you’re doing because the need to know more outweighs the need for basic needs.

It seems simply impossible to truly speak the magnitude of this book without minor spoilers so be warned. **

Can I just say the characterisation of Hendrix in volume 2 is one of my personal favourites. He filled a void for me in this book that was left by Collins (whom my heart now BREAKS for just FYI) I was so onboard for this journey of redemption and humanity and I really enjoyed the relationship that developed between him and Lilly. It was exceptionally well crafted. The betrayal was also well crafted and truly broke my heart but it made sense in the context. I don’t have to like it or that the sudden realisation had me shouting at the pages but the whole story arc was breathtaking and I cannot wait to see it develop. **

The revelations in this book where delicious. A lot of which I saw coming but they were no less satisfying. The brutality in places in my opinion makes the book all that more real and the soul crushing events will stay with me in anticipation for the next instalment. My heart breaks for some and I hope that happiness in some form will reach them.

Praises again for such an enthralling read. Absofuckingloutely brilliant.

I don't even know how to review this book. It was the second book of one of the best series I've ever read. Completely out of my normal genre, but I read the The Verity series and liked the author's writing so much I decided to give The Last Witch a try. I'm so happy I did. I absolutely love the characters, I even love to hate a few of the bad guys. She really knows how to draw the reader in right from the beginning. You really need to read this series (and The Verity books also)!

WOW!

What a ride...

I'm yet again speechless and can't comprehend where such a talented author has been hiding.

I'm utterly addicted to this series.

It's so incredibly intricate, action packed and emotional. It truly is a precious jewel, and I CANNOT wait for the third installment.

I am absolutely and completely blown away.. this book is so emotional, you hate it but u can’t leave it down. You want to throw it, or ur phone, across the room, but you also want to devour the pages. The way the author created, in the first book, the characters is exquisite.. and in the second book the build up continues. How much a person can take before they break.. how cruel people truly are. What’s the difference between love and ownership.. this book has it all.. I can’t wait for the finale. Pick it up but be careful.. it’s not for everybody. Dark, painful, cruel you name it, it has it ..

Volume 2 is just as brilliant as volume 1 you won't be able to put it down. M.J.Lawrie's style grabs you and immerses you into the lives of the characters making you feel as if you're there alongside them. Obviously I have had no choice but to pre-order volume 3!!!!😂

Gripping and wickedly good

Second installment of an absolute page turner. So our Lilly faces even more trials and tribulations and will she ever get her happy ending and keep everyone she loves safe. If you are looking sweet just walk on because this story is an emotional rollercoaster.
At times you think why is there so many protagonists, they all want to use and hurt poor Lilly but you then you find comfort and balance from Gabriel and his crew.

Beautifully written, engrossing, horrific, cruel, hopeful and vengeful.

So why read it, it's a hell of a ride and pure entertainment.
Looking forward to book three.
Highly recommend this.

Gratuitous overwhelming violence. Abuse: physical, psychological, sexual. All described.

There is a point where it is too much. The FMC is abused by every person who she has ever come in contact with, and we get to read about it, over and over and over.
This is a review for the whole series since I don’t think this series is worth my time to review each book separately.
The abuse and depravity I as the reader was exposed to was overwhelming. I now know many ways to torture a person, break them, ruin them. This series was too dark.
I enjoy darkness in books because everyone deals with darkness, but in order to keep the series interesting and intriguing there has to be some light. Some redemption. There is none in this series until the last chapter of the last book. Then miraculously they all have this happy ever after. That is garbage.

TW: sexual assault, rape (mention and description), violence, gore

This book was freaking insane and I enjoyed it thoroughly because of that. This book was one of the most quick paced sequels I have ever read and I gotta say I’m here for it. But I must say the amount of torture that Lilly goes through is literally unbearable. One thing I do wish this book had however were trigger warnings. The amount of accounts that we get about Lilly being sexually assaulted or that one time when ⚠️SPOILER⚠️ Grayson attempted to rape Lilly was truly traumatising. But if you don’t mind having to read those kinds of things I do believe that this book is genuinely quite good and if you are looking for something a little dark to read go check this book out...🤓

I’m starting to think this series is not for me lol. I just don’t love the pattern of torture-some big event/kidnapping-then a big rescue again and again and again. I don’t mind dark aspects of a storyline but it doesn’t feel tasteful in this series. I almost feel like it’s put in there just because the author can.

A Coven Of Witches, And A Vampire Walk Into A Big Mess

*** Possibly some spoilers…Just a warning ***

At the beginning of “The Last Witch - Vol: 2

Greyson has Lilly right where he wants her..

Trying to decode Rebecca Hoopers Journal with the help of the young, bumbling, but brilliant, Irish, Connor, while still having complete control over her powers with the help of the bloodstone pendant, and her branded, binding mark on her arm.

He is also holding her and Gabriel’s besties, Amara and Connor hostage as leverage.

So, For him, Grayson, it’s onward, and upwards trying to make Lilly’s final realms manifest, so they can complete the spell to lift “The Veil”

Meanwhile the search for Greyson and Gabriel’s psychotic brother, the white haired, lavender eyed, Tobias ( Toby ) continues…

As Connor is able to decipher more, and more of the journal, other issues seem to arise.
Including that fact that they will need Rebecca’s wedding ring, and Lilly mothers ( lost ) necklace.

After a massive battle between Theo’s camp, of descendants, and Graysons loyal Nomads the beautiful “The Orchards” estate, Grayson and the Nomads witches safe haven, is raised to the ground.

Leaving the gang with no other option than to flee, especially as the battle, which forced Lilly to reveal her powers, attracted the attention of the media, and, in turn, The Hunters” ( witch hunters )

Now they are in a race to find the missing pieces of jewellery, to perform the first part of the spell, while trying to evade The Hunters, and the vigilante members if the public.

However, this is not their only problem…
Toby and his crazy girlfriend Ava, along with Theo and his followers, are also still in hot pursuit.

So, while all this is going on, how are two witches, Gabriel, and Lilly, going to stay together, let alone fall deeper in love, while Gabriel’s psychotic coven leader brother Grayson, and baby brother Toby BOTH. want his Acane witch girlfriend.

Well let just say…
It all goes yo hell in a hand basket.

Is it bad if me that I am completely on team Grayson?

I’m just getting a bit sick of Lilly and Gabriel gushing over each other all the time.
THEN.
Just when it looks like they’re in serious trouble, someone finds a spell, learns new information, or past on information, and THEN!

TA DAH!

They get out of Do Do,..and are hugging, and kissing while all their friends stand around going “ Awww, aren’t they just the CUTEST!”

Look. I’m loving these books but, that doesn’t mean that some of the writing isn’t just a little bit silly.
Case in point -

“I’m so lost in my misery, I didn’t realise he’d taken off my clothes until he led me into the shower”

How miserable do you have to be to have your clothes removed AND NOT KNOW!!!🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t think I like Lilly in this book.
The more elements she acquires, the more unstable, she becomes.

Plus, she is determined to have things HER way.

She is petulant, and, as Grayson stated, as she destroyed their home ( the beautiful The Orchards ) doing things out if malice.

‘That girl is dark and dangerous,’ - Grayson

He doesn’t know the half of it, wait till the end!

So many parts of this book I could predict.

Like the curing of Gabriel’s little issue
AND
The result of the resolving of THAT issue with Lily.

I knew it, KNEW IT!

And, don’t get me started with the happy little Nomads camp.
I get it, it was a reprieve from all the madness, but it was also very cringe.

( I felt for Grayson in this part, and HATED Gabriel underhand move )

Lilly, sitting around making daisy chains with the kids, spouting her wisdom for female empowerment 🙄

We never got a break from Gabriel gushing over Lilly for like, FIVE MINUTES!!,

It get to be a little much with everyone fawning over her.

Shall we just call Gabriel “Saint” Gabriel because that the picture being painted of him by this stage.

OOOKKAYY!!!

I just put it out there..
like the dark.
I’m one of those people who loves a good bad guy ( Whoo Hoo! Grayson, and Toby ) and I can’t STAND them being humiliated and losing their power and control.
That’s why I hated what went down in the Nomads camp, with that smarts** Gabriel
And if I have to read this one more time

‘I love you, future wife.’ ‘I love you more, future husband.’ ‘Impossible,’

I. Will. Barf.

Gabriel and Lilly, plus their whole little gang of goody, goody’s are REALLY getting in my nerves..

SO,

I kinda feel a little awful when one of their group met their demise…
Just a little.

Please Please, don’t give us and unrealistic HEA to this series?
I want a GOT shocker, lead get bumped off kinda ending.

“The Last Witch: Volume II” by M.J. Lawrie picks up three months after Lilly has been branded by Grayson and her magic has been bound to his control. Gabriel and Lilly are walking on eggshells around Grayson and are being forced to hide their relationship from the Coven. Nevertheless, I really enjoy their quips and humor with each other. And despite the fact that Lilly is on the edge of breaking from her trauma, they still find light in one another, saying things like:
“You are completely and utterly bonkers, Lilly Hooper. You have more baggage than Gatwick airport. (BUT) I love every single nutty, cuckoo, bat-shit-bonkers part of you. You’re not on your own, and I swear to you, I will die before I let any harm come to you.”

Lilly continues to be tormented by Grayson, Theo, and the Hunters as she tries to break the spell that has trapped magic in the world. In the process, she had to dig further into her mind and discover some shocking events that really changed everything.

I won’t spoil the ending, but I really thought things were finally going to be okay; they were falling into place, everyone was happy-ish, and then BOOM. NOPE. Scratch that! No one is happy, and everything is not alright.
“‘You want a monster?’ I snarl. ‘I’ll show you a monster! Better yet, I’ll show you a witch!’”

Thanks a lot for that! On to book 3!

Arc review- Audible

Wow 👏 my heart was on the floor for most of this book, how much can one person go through 💔. Amy Putt the narrator was fabulous at getting each individual character to stand out and each different character was easily distinguished from the other. Amy made you believe in each emotion the character was having.

The story follows Lilly on her epic adventure of becoming the arcane witch. Lilly is put through some terrible tasks to help her become who she's meant to be (or who certain people want her to be). Some want her for her powers, some want her to help her kind others just want her gone 😔. The narrator brought the story to life in a way that had you screaming at one moment and crying at the next. I listened to this book in 2 days and was shocked that it was over 😳 I was so into the story I lost track of time.

The story is dark and twisted but has a splash of swoon moments with the romance interest. My heart will forever be Gabriel's, he was my first book love ❤️.
The story flowed so well and the chapters were separated nicely which helped break the story up and they were not too long.

The author did an amazing job at making you feel a part of the story 👏 🙌 ❤️ my emotions were everywhere throughout this book. I am certainly a spice lover in books, and although this story does not contain spice I felt like it did a fantastic job without it and I enjoyed the story very much.

I Ab-so-lutely love it!!!. 😀 😍

The Last Witch: Volume II follows the events of The Last Witch: Volume One. It is a dark fantasy with romantic elements. There are many trigger warnings with many depictions of cruelty. It is told in first person fmc pov. I felt this book was equal part character and plot driven, and do note it is emotionally turbulent.

I enjoyed this sequel a lot more than the first. The characters felt a lot more consistent in this one and the writing and sequence of events didn't give me whiplash like the first one did. I think the character development was very well flushed in this one; we saw the mc and other characters spiral into madness as well as reconstruct themselves.

Minus 1 point for the use of this line: "I let out a breath I hadn’t realised I was holding and nod."

As with the first volume, I still noticed quite a few typo and grammatical errors in this. I can appreciate how hard authors work to put their material out there, but for me personally and I feel I speak for many other people it does get in the way of my enjoyment of a book if I am constantly noticing these errors (i.e. desert vs dessert type of errors). I am saying this while also accounting for the UK spelling being used vs US spelling.
