Aryn Greyson needs a fake mate, and fast. The alpha college sophomore has told his pack leader he found his omega, and now Braedan wants to welcome the new Greyson into the family.
Trae “Stray” Vagorien, omega fourth-year student, has no pack, no money, and supposedly no morals. He’s definitely got no need for a stupid, arrogant alpha in his life. When Aryn Greyson offers him a thousand dollars for posing as his mate for a night, including family dinner and sharing a double room in a 5-star hotel, Trae finds his views on alphaholes confirmed—and accepts. Nothing is going to happen in that king-size bed. That’s the deal. Aryn is determined to behave honorably, and Trae has enough pride and attitude to make sure that he will.
But what if their hormones and hearts have other ideas?

Can a relationship that started with an insult and a lie ever turn into something real?

STRAY is a 35k non-shifter omegaverse gay romance and the first installment of the FENNYS DEN COLLEGE SERIES. It contains a sweet alpha who needs to grow up, a snarky omega with a fear of thunderstorms, hurt/comfort, a night of knotting, lots of fluff and heartbreak, and a solid happy ending. This story has potential, but the narrative leaves a lot to be desired: way too much telling (entire conversations are summarized), too many internal monologues at the expense of conversation, zero relationship development, no world building (women don't exist as full beings in this omegaverse), abrupt ending.

I am not a fan of the first-person, present-tense POV, and while the knotting scene was hot, this book is weirdly barebones. Do these "weres" even shift?

I'm curious despite myself, but I hope the second book is better rounded than the first.

One of my favorites -enemies to lovers- hurt/comfort, Alpha’s, omega’s, mates, this was an awesome story!

All, yes ALL the feelings, the best. I cried, my dear heart, it cramped, it shattered, it stuttered.

Awesome story!! Absolutely a must-read!

Trae is a beautiful stunning omega, without family, without a pack. Deeply insulted by the offer from alpha were Aryn has to be his fake mate so Aryn will get the access ticked to a hunting game, and Aryn will pay him a thousand dollars. They have to share a room but Aryn promises him he will sleep on the ground.
Trae hates Aryn, even though his scent is delicious.
Aryn has respect for Trae, this beautiful omega, his scent is making him delirious.
When Trae accepts his offer, he understands too late what this looks like, how insulting it looks.
How can he ever makes up to Trae. His feelings for this beautiful omega is overwhelming!

Oh my freaking goodness this was a TOP story. I loved everything about it.
All those feelings, the hurt/comfort, the undeniable call from a mate. All the feelings.
My heart did funny things. It has an overwhelming mating scene!
Awesomely written story, with the focus on the important things of a story. Very lovable characters, the development was great. The whole story stunning!
One of my favorites alpha omega stories of 2019!

Rounding up to 3 stars.

I adore the Fake Boyfriend trope and the precis made this one sound interesting. And it was, but I never quite connected with the characters or the romance. It felt like too much crammed into one novella; lots of subjects touched on that I would have loved to be explored deeper (slut-shaming, societal expectations, consent, etc.), and the world-building was a little lack-luster.

Quite a few editing issues, mainly with word usage and sentence construction. Too many references to conversation and interactions without the actual dialogue as well. Also, since this is my first book by this author, I can't tell if it was a stylistic choice to have the characters act and sound so young...but if not, then this needs even more polishing.

That said, I might give the second one a go because it's the older brother's book.

This book is amazing, I fall in love with Aryn and Trae. Both are absolutely well-developed and lovable. Their story is so cute and incredibly hot, when they come together. ;) I've read so many Omegaverse books during the last years and this is definitely one of the sweetest and most romantic stories I've ever read.
I love the humor and had to laugh many times, the way these both finally become closer is so funny and adorable.
Trae is like I need my Omegas - bratty, self-sufficient, vulnerable and brave. And Aryn is his perfect Alpha, a kind-hearted, protective, lovingly Gentleman.
I really like the narrative style and the writing.
Can't wait to get Braedan's and Sindry's story.

Highly recommended! If you love Omegaverse, then you’re right here and have to meet Aryn and Trae.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

Stray is the first book in Crystel Greene’s Fennys Den College series. The author brings a few new ideas to the popular omegaverse, which I appreciated. This story very much has a new adult feel, something I don’t see often in omegaverse (maybe because they typically have the focus on mating and families that isn’t as common in new adult/college stories). In this world, college is the age many find their mates and it is common for mated pairs to live together while at school. So Aryn is being pressured to find his mate, despite being only a second year student. I think Greene does a nice job making Aryn and Trae feel like college students and, like I said, it is an interesting approach for omegaverse.

No magical butt babies - that's a plus. No shifter but knotting - that's odd. Fake boyfriend trope in an omega universe - that's still a dark place.

It's not an easy rating for me. On the one side I loved the guys and they are perfect for a fake boyfriend scheme, awkward meets snarky, both insecure for their own reasons and both attracted to each other but playing it cool. It's a pleasantly humorous and sweet layer over a world which is anything but. I still don't get the allure an omega universe seems to have for romance readers. Oh, I can enjoy it if it's on the dark side, if it shows the struggle to overcome such a oppressive ideology but usually it's the other way around i.e. pulling the rebellious omega back into a life protected and dominated by an alpha. There are a few authors who suppress the world building and make the heat phase into an explosive mixture of possessive passion but Crystel Greene choose the other path. She's showing what's wrong, takes even a step into a broader world building but then she stops that effort and focuses on mating and HEA. So the world becomes a vague idea populated by asexual women, male only omegas, family packs of non-shifter were and parallel a complete human society.

Pity, I would have enjoyed this story as a nice pastime outside of an omega universe. Strangely I nevertheless might give the next part a chance ... seems hope really springs eternal

Received ARC from GRR for an honest review.

I thought this was such a sweet book. Aryn has been slightly obsessed with Trae since beginning college at Fenny. Well Trae tries his hardest to stay away from Aryn. In Aryn’s second year he comes up with a fake mate scheme and enlists the help of Trae. Of course they figure out that they both have been pining for each other and it is our bliss. Then there is slight misunderstanding. But I’m the end they have their HEA. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet omegaverse read.

😍

Where to start?
The ending is always a good place
I'm smiling as I leave this review while also wishing for more yet knowing I'll get my answers as the series progress

I liked the backdrop the author created here.
Not only does Trae have the everyday hurdles of being an omega he also has to face the hardships and negative connotations that comes from being an orphan, pack less - A stray.
Aryn isn't your typical alphahole - and we do get a brief introduction to a real alphahole who I am sure we will be seeing more of in future episodes - Aryn just wants to make his Alpha proud but he is not looking for a mate or at least not consciously. He wants to be captain of the hunt team, his alpha wants him to settle down.
Not an easy balancing act for either of them

This was a sweet romance that left me with all the warm fuzees
Laughter, Family, Hope, Hurt, Comfort, Love -
I do have a few questions about the college - Fennys Den
About a possible evil plot (something Trae said)
What their future is - I am hoping book two gives us a continuation as well as a new couple
Definitely going forward as I am thoroughly invested in how this plays out when they get back to campus (this ends on a happy for now but my hope is that being the first in the series the author will continue their story in the series)
and I really really want to know 😎

3.5 stars. I actually ended up liking this one a lot more than I thought I would. The MC (Aryn) didn’t seem very likable in the opening chapter, but he grew on me as time went on. This book seems like one thing on the surface, but as you truly get to know the characters, it turns into so much more. A fake relationship NA love story, it develops naturally and has some truly steamy knotty scenes.

Sweet and perfect

This shortish book is the perfect length for a whirlwind romance with a happily ever after ending. Such warmth and a bit of realness in how these characters interact. Loved it from beginning to end.

Stray is the first book in The Fenny Den College by author Crystel Greene. I loved this story. It is a cute fast-paced story that really made me smile as I read it. I love a good lighthearted story with true love thrown in. Really appeals to the romantic at heart in me.
Aryn he needs a fake mate and fast. He is already obsessing about a beautiful omega who is aloof and carefree. But he really wants to be a part of a sports team this year. His brother who is Alpha of his pack says he cannot, he is a sophomore in college and his freshman year was less than spectacular. He needs to pull his grades up, find a mate, and be settled down. So, he lies to his brother and says he already found his Omega. Well, now he has to ask the man who he keeps watching if he would be his fake Omega for the weekend.
Aryn is clumsily shy. He really screws up the asking part. But I felt for the guy. He is cute and sweet.
Trae has a chip on his shoulder about Alphas. He is a fourth-year college student and doesn’t want an Alpha telling him what to do. He is homeless and struggled for everything he has. He doesn’t want some spoilt rich kid messing with his life.
Trae has been through a lot and that has caused him to be called in some ways. I liked the more he got to know Aryn the more he sees who Aryn really is verse who he thought he was.
These guys come full circle. Both have a ton of growing up in this story. I loved watching it all unfold. I think this is a great start to the series and I cannot wait to see where it takes us in the next book.

I read this when I needed a quick fix of M/M, Alpha-Omega naughtiness. So basically I just chose Stray because it's short. I love M/M shifter stories, but the non-shifter variety with just the Alpha-Omega dynamics works just as well. And boy, did Stray work well!

Despite the compact story format, the characters weren’t only darn endearing and catching my interest, but they were also surprisingly well developed. Not only did I immediately like both Aryn and Trae, but Greene made me want to learn more. Both about them and the Fennys Den College world. There shouldn’t be any room for world-building in a 157-page read, and yet Greene managed it. That’s bloody impressive.

Now, it’s a really simple story line, and there’s no room for side stories. But the supporting characters still feels three-dimensional and there’s a hint about an underlying plot about murdered Were families. And it all just melded together to this yummy read that left me wanting more. Way more.

In summary, this is a great read if you need an M/M, Alpha-Omega quickie. I’m really impressed by Greene’s writing. She managed a perfectly balanced short story. Romance, sexual tension, character depth and a fresh new angle on a Were universe.

If she’d ever decide to write full-length novels with a bit more flesh on them bones, I bet they’d be 5-stars.

Aryn is an alpha in college and Trae is an omega.
They've both noticed and skirted around each other but never acted upon their attraction.
Trae is packless and seems content to let everyone believe the worst rumors about him are true when in reality he's just hiding his vulnerability behind a snarky facade as self-defense.
Aryn is almost your typical macho alpha, but most people don't see the awkward, kind, thoughtful person he is when he's not posturing for others.
He's desperate to get into a team sport and comes up with a harebrained scheme to present Trae as his mate in order to procure permission to be on the the team from his brother and alpha Braden.
As they get to know each other after a formal dinner with Aryn's family, they realize they have a lot in common and that the preconceived notions about each other were completely off base.
Trae has a difficult night which results in an extremely passionate encounter between between them.
The next morning, after a potentially devastating misunderstanding, Aryn realizes that he wants to be with Trae, he has to make him understand the validity of his intentions because Trae's walls have been strategically fortified for so long, it's hard for him to accept that Aryn truly wants him.
The book ends with a HEA but there was some allusion to their past that seems unresolved and could be open to interpretation as a basis for a continuation of the series.
This was a new to me author and I'll definitely be looking forward to more.

Love! Alpha/omega, Jock nerd/ cool outcast

I love omegaverse books. This one is perfect for me. Aryn is a super jock Alpha who needs to compete on the hunter team this season. But his pack Alpha says no way, not unless he picks up his grades or finds his mate. Since he already made team Captain he needs to figure it out fast. His crush, Omega Trae, has a scandalous reputation so maybe he wouldn't mind posing as his prospective mate.

Trae is a packless omega. Basically thought of as one step up from prostitute. So when Alpha Aryn asks him to pose as his mate for money, he is pissed and insulted. But Aryn is also hot, and he could put the Alpha in his place just for fun so he accepts.

Trae is a super sexy omega who has walls of defense around him. Hes been treated like crap from Alphas for a long time. His cool attitude has kept him from showing his hurt. But when Aryn and he share the hotel room that night, they both change.

I love omega heats, knotting, Alpha/omega dynamics. Aryn is a sweet, adorkable Alpha. Trae is a misunderstood and mistreated omega.

I loved the story, the pacing, the characters. It is a non shifter in the way that the are were-wolves but they don't shift in the book. I needed to clarify that for myself as the students take a "were Alpha" class. So it is a shifter book, they just don't shift in it. That's my understanding anyhow. I am intrigued in the backstory of the murders. I want to read Braeden's story and more. ! So glad I got to read this book.

Stray is Book 1 in The Denny’s Den College Series. A non-shifter PNR
I went into this book/ series completely blind and wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I love PNR books and this one seemed different & intriguing.
I was pleasantly surprised by this cleverly written short read but I was completely drawn in and mesmerised.
Trae has some strong reservations and opinions on all alpha’s and for the most part is completely warranted. He’s been treated very badly and can understand the way he thinks. Does Aryn deserve to be treated with the same contempt, no not really.
Aryn isn’t typically shallow & heartless and doesn’t like nor agree with the way Trae gets treated. But the proposal & lie that follows in this story…… oh dear! 🤦‍♀️ He has a lot of pressure in some aspects of his life, like get top grades, be the best & find a mate. The pressure comes from his alpha who also happens to be his brother.
I found myself paying close attention and really being drawn into this world.
The chemistry & heat between these two is tangible although they would never admit that as they try to avoid each other.
This is a great, unique, sassy, complex emotions, slightly steamy/ slow burn read.
I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.

This is a fast paced, page turner. It starts off like a high school drama, but get more mature and emotional as it goes. Trae is a packless were who's parents were killed when he was a baby. After being in foster care for a while, he takes off to live in his own. Years go by and he eventually ends up at a college with a house just for packless weres. Aryn was sent to the same college, but he was sent mainly to find a mate. At the start Aryn's second year, his pack leader brother bans him from sports, but when he's challenged for top spot in the hunting club, he tells his brother that he's found his mate. Braeden relents and agrees to give permission for Aryn to be in the club, after he meets the mate. During the previous school year Aryn watched Trae, and Trae avoided, but watched, Aryn, so Aryn offers Trae $1000 to pretend to be his mate and meet his brother. Trae accepts, but only because he'll be able to mentally play with Aryn. Neither expected to see the other completely differently, nor did Trae expect to like Braeden. Secrets are revealed, things get heated and it turns into a night neither of them will ever forget.

This is a delightful, quick read and first in a new series. For it's length, it is surprisingly well-developed, with adequate world-building and character development. After telling his pack leader he has found his omega (hint: he hasn't), Aryn needs to find one fast. He makes a rather insulting offer to Trae, a poor, bullied, pack-less omega, to pose as his mate for a night in exchange for $1,000. Trae may be poor, but he is proud and figures he will put Aryn in his place. The two seem like opposites, but over the course of the evening, they find out they have much in common.. Could this be the start of something more?

I loved the MCs. Neither is quite what he appears, and both have self-concept issues that they hide, one with a jock facade, the other with snark and a devil-may-care attitude. It was delightful and endearing to see them come together. There was a bit of knotty, sexy fun, too, some misunderstanding, and a HEA end. I am looking forward to more in this series.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

This book starts with a fairly common trope, the fake relationship, but builds into more. These two characters definitely do NOT start out their arrangement in a good way. Aryn doesn’t really mean any harm but he obviously doesn’t stop to think about how his words and actions would come across to someone who certainly does not have the same level of privilege that he does. Trae has finally found himself a place at the college after being packless and he doesn’t really care what others think or say about him. Or at least he acts like he doesn’t. Silently, he hates his status and the way that Aryn uses him doesn’t sit very well. These two have a lot to work through but it doesn’t have it’s happy ending. Aryn grows a lot in this story as he comes to realize that you can’t believe everything you hear and that you have to stop to consider how your thoughts and actions can affect others. A nice story. I did read an ARC of this one.

Sweet and engaging characters that grow and warm your heart as the story develops.  This Alpha/Omega story is based in a werewolf college with our MC's in an Alpha/Omega dynamic type relationship.  The culture has certain stereotypes and dynamics that Tand and Aryn develop as characters and look deeper into each other.  The secondary characters are really well done and the world-building is good.

Tand and Aryn connect and try to work through misunderstandings, poor choices and finding your mate all in a very short period of time.  This story-line with these characters and the writing done so well, created an engaging and delightful story.

This is book one of the Fennys Den College series and i enjoyed it so much i went on to read another of this series that is already released.

I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review

This is really a 3.5 stars. I took half a star because of the narration. I think the intent was to have first person POV in alternating chapters. The author came pretty close. In fact, the best scene -cue the proposal- is a successful example that ratchets up the drama and I swear to all that is holy, I was smiling ear to ear and doing a happy dance.

I really, really liked this take on the hot boy from the wrong side of the tracks mating the popular jock. It reminds me of Pretty in Pink. And I luv me some Duckie. Seriously fun read.

I see the Xmas short is available so I’m off to read it, too.

Were-world

Alpha/omega conflict at a werewolf college. Protagonists Aryn and Trae fill their characters out slowly, squabbling all the way. The college environment itself doesn't get the same detailed attention, but this is a series and something has to be kept back to entice readers to return. Great heat near the end, and no sappy epilogue.

As I am a gatherer of books, I collect books and ebooks from a variety of sources: Goodreads wins, BookBub, BookFunnel, emails from authors and publishers, Smashwords, and others. I do lose track of their sources. But, as a reader, I feel I should give an honest, unencumbered review for all I read.

The author does a wonderful job of creating the world for these characters to inhabit and in making all the characters interesting even in ths short read. I liked the fact that often in such stories it is the alpha who is the snarky one that we initially feel a reason to dislike, but here is it our omega who has such a deep prejudice about alphas. It was wonderful watching Trae's walls come down as Aryn shatters all his preconceptions. There are hints of things going on in the world that should become quite interesting over the course of this series and I look forward to more from this author who is new to me.

Holy moly, this was steamy! Sweet and romantic. This was the beginning of the Fennys Den College series. Aryn lied and told his pack leader that he’d found his omega. He needs to find one fast. Trae has no pack and no money; he agrees for a price. They end up sharing a bed. I loved the hurt/comfort aspect in this story! I loved Aryn and Trae!! This was a quick read for me, but the story had a lot of depth. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

Let me start with the mating scene between the two males, an alpha and an omega, that will move any reader with red blood running through their veins into heat. The novella ends a bit too soon after that climactic scene for my taste, (and thus the four out of five stars). But the author pulls off with veracity the fake-romance scheme. And the characters are so believable in their hurt, in their roles, and in their animal scents, that the reader will be panting for more from these two musk-driven enemies turned lovers.

Sweet Alpha/Omega Romance

Aryn and Trae had a surprisingly sweet opposites attract romance. Loner and feisty, Trae didn't realize how quickly he could fall in love even while fighting against it. Quiet alpha Aryn had admired Trae from afar and when an opportunity arose he stumbled on it and worked hard to convince Trae that what started as a fake relationship could turn into forever. This was a short and sweet romance set in an alpha/omega universe with off-page mpreg conversations.

STRAY is an exceptionally well written romance (I do love a really close 1st person narration). What you need to know going in is that the synopsis basically gives away 80% of the story - I initially thought the synopsis only covers the set up but it actually gives you the whole picture. That means the book is fairly slow paced, although I didn't mind too much. Trae and Aryn are amazing characters. Will read the sequel immediately.

Stray by Crystel Greene is the first book in the Fanny Den College series.  This omegaverse MM romance has sweetness, snark, insecurities, misunderstandings, and a pretend relationship that starts to feel all too real.  Aryn and Trae are fun characters and I enjoyed getting to know them and see them figure their way through this adventure of finding each other, finding love.  My heart ❤  was happy reading this.
