Christmas with Eve Lloyd. What could possibly go wrong? Eve Lloyd has closed the Seabreeze Inn for the holidays. She is all set to entertain her friends and hold her first Christmas party at the now empty inn. She has even written a note to Make this the best Christmas ever! Embracing the spirit of Christmas, she is singing Christmas carols and decking the halls… But then, her aunt Mira receives bad news. Determined to cheer her up, Eve goes in search of the tiny marshmallows her aunt loves. This is nothing but a slight detour… Or so she thinks. Her first Christmas at her inn, in her idyllic little island town is about to be derailed when a body is found floating face down, practically on her doorstep.
With Eve closing her Inn for the holidays, she makes a run into town to buy marshmallows. The store is out of many things and Eve learns the bridge connecting the island to the mainland has collapsed. Later when she goes back to the Inn, she's surprised to see the inn is packed with people stranded by the bridge being down. Two sets of rival carolers who had almost came to a brawl in the streets of town earlier in the day are now unwanted guests at the Inn along with a young couple expecting a child's arrival any day now. Just because it's Eve's inn, no one is surprised when one of the carolers body is found on the beach the next morning.
Eve closed her Inn for the holidays, all she wanted was a wonderful Christmas with her family and friends. Until the only bridge collapsed and people were stranded on the island, and of course had no place to stay, but Eves Inn! Along with unwanted guests, there is a murder and Eve is beside herself! Good storyline. Fun characters, a nice Christmas story ❤️❤️
Loved reading this Christmas cosy from Sonia as I've enjoyed all of the cosy mysteries she's written. If you like cozy mysteries do yourself a favour and check out the rest of her books.
A good read but be warned you might have read this before (think it might have been in a collection). Therefore it slightly spoiled it for me as I knew from the start who, how and why. Christmas! She can't keep her happiness to herself. The Inn is closed and all is on track for a fabulous time (if her aunt can get out of her funk). However disaster strikes. The bridge collapses, guests at her Inn start multiplying, food is becoming scarce on the Island and now there's been a death. Is it an accident? The more she and Jack look into it the more it starts looking like murder and not just a one off. It appears that a serial killer is on the Island. Can they find out who? Will Christmas be ruined because of the guests? Will her aunt get back her Christmas cheer?
Eve is an innkeeper on an island where her aunt lives. She is planning on closing the inn for Christmas. Unfortunately, the bridge to the mainland has collapsed stranding travelers to the island as there is no other way off the island. Eve reopens her inn with two different caroling groups who have definite ideas on how caroling should be done. She also has a young married couple expecting their first child any day. A member of one of the caroling groups is killed. Who did it and why?
I enjoyed this short read. I liked Eve. She and her crew investigate until the police can arrive. Her boyfriend, Jack, heads the investigation. I liked how he did not warn her not to interfer in his investigation. He is glad for the information she has gathered. I liked how they all worked together.
I liked the ending although I felt it was anti-climatic as we did not see the arrest. I was surprised by the who and why.
I look forward to reading the earlier books in this series. It seems like a good series.
Eve closed the inn for the Christmas holidays but things didn't turn out as expected. After the bridge to the mainland collapsed people are stranded and need somewhere to go - so Eve opens her inn (under duress and protest :-) only to have two feuding carol singer groups under her roof and a young couple who is expecting a baby. After one singer is found murdered things get from bad to worse. The end is quite surprising.
Set at Christmas in Maine on an island, the only connection to the main and is severed by re collapse of a bridge. This the story begins with turf wars between caroling groups, an inn that the innkeeper wants to have empty for a quiet Christmas, and a murder. I figured out the culprit early on but the story was pretty good getting to the reveal. So, also well that ends well.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. The central character, Eve, was the catalyst for the plot development, and I enjoyed the little sub plots concerning Eve and Jack, and Myra and David. Murder of a caroller at Christmas, at the Inn got my investigative juices going. Having said that, I failed to identify the murderers and, certainly, missed the links to cold cases. It’s easy to say “Of course” once the writer reveals the culprits. A quick and satisfying read.
.. Eve didn't really have much involvement other than having to open the Inn.. feel a little deflated.. even David's lies to Mira don't really go anywhere..
Let's hope the next one picks up the pace a little and actually involves Eve, Jill and Mira doing some detective work!!
Enjoyable book. I really loved the heroine and will certainly look out for more in the series. But I like my cosy crimes to also be a puzzle which I can try to solve before the ending of the book and that certainly wasn't the case with this story. I felt the villain was obvious and the reason for the crime was unsatisfactory.
A good story surprise ending. As an inn keeper I thought her behavior a little odd; but it works for the storyline. I have not read previous in series.
Enjoyed reading this mystery. Who did it was very intriguing to say the least since a person from two groups of singers could have done it. I did guess the murderer but I was almost at the end of the story when it all came together. Keep up the great writing.
