Official English: I Seriously Can’t Believe You… (via Renta!)
This was really cute and wholesome! Easily one of my favorite reads this year and one I could re-read over and over again.
The story follows Kon and Iida using dual perspectives. One day, Kon and his friends become curious as to why Iida doesn’t date anyone after so many confessions, and if he’s possibly gay. Kon, losing a bet, goes to falsely confess to Iida but Iida’s genuine reaction leaves Kon feeling guilty and enamored. From there on, they start spending time together to try and discover what Iida’s preferences are, while their relationship and feelings begin to grow.
This was really cute. I’m not sure if there is any other manga that has made two characters watching and bonding over porn wholesome and comfortable. I guess it wasn’t explicit or detailed which helped, and they don’t discuss it in great detail. It’s like part of their journey as the manga focuses on their interactions as well as their emotions before and after watching the videos. I also found it cute when the manga highlighted their awkwardness and blushing. This is unfortunately a short, single volume but the romantic growth is fair and the misunderstandings are handled well with communication. The characters are in school still so they do fumble but hey, it’s more relatable that way!
Kon is a very expressive character. He’s straightforward and upfront but still managed to hide one lie from Iida. It was the start of their interaction and very hurtful but throughout the manga, it’s clear how Kon’s feelings develop and how guilty he feels. On the other hand, Iida is the popular schoolmate who hides his sexuality. It’s clear he has feelings for Kon at the start and I loved how he entertained Kon’s ideas without any judgment. Iida isn’t very expressive but when he blushes it’s very impactful. Additionally, I loved Kon’s friends and Iida’s fangirls because they were both supportive in their own ways. There is literally no negativity in this manga which makes it a nice, fluffy read.
The artwork is very cute overall. The character designs are cute and each is unique so it’s easy to tell them apart. The emotions are primarily expressed facially or through inner thought bubbles while also using iconographic backgrounds sparingly. That said, most of the backgrounds are blank which is honestly fine because the story is quite engaging so we’re not missing out on anything.
In terms of word placement, I think it was done well but there are sometimes a lot of words per page. The manga uses a lot of sound effects, making it more engaging. It also depicts the characters inner thoughts in italics alongside speech bubbles when necessary for story flow. Honestly it’s not annoying, but a much needed clarification to help understand each character.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this manga and I have read it four times now. I’ll probably read it again. There’s just something so innocent yet cute about these characters, the situation and their feelings. There is no drama or negativity; it’s all fluff. That said, I heard there is a chapter 6 which unfortunately isn’t available in English so I hope we do receive it one day. I would definitely recommend giving this a chance if you’re looking for a more fluffy and cute school BL story.

Eh… Realmente no entiendo las amistades masculinas.
Parece que al autor(a) le gusta jugar con los límites de lo que implica una amistad masculina, pero creo que existe un límite para la confusión propia de la adolescencia sobre lo que un amigo significa y cuanto se puede hacer dentro de una amistad. Supongo que algunas personas son más abiertas en cuanto sus experiencias y no son tímidos a la hora de hablar de temas íntimos, pero ver productos audiovisuales juntos… ¿no es como demasiado? Es que simplemente no puedo imaginarlo, porque yo no sería capaz, la incomodidad sería todo en lo que podría pensar. Pero seguro que haya afuera hay amistades donde esto no es un obstáculo y pueden hacerlo sin tener segundos pensamientos, pero no creo que sea la regala.
Entonces, cuando los protagonistas comenzaron a pasar más tiempo juntos y las cosas empezaron a cambiar en el ambiente, yo me ponía a pensar, ¿realmente no ven lo que está sucediendo? ¿Por qué paran aceptarlo como parte de la normalidad? Es obvio que se gustan, dejen de buscar excusas.
Por suerte no sucedió como en otras entregas del autor(a) en donde la ingenuidad es llevada a extremos absurdos y los protagonistas entendieron prontamente la situación y hablaron de ello. ¡Como se debe hacer siempre! No sean tímidos y solo hablen, es mejor enfrentarlo y saber que dudarse con la duda.
Por suerte, hubo final feliz y el drama es prácticamente inexistente. Es por eso que me gusta leer historias de un solo tomo, se acaban rápido entregando una historia completa. Perfecto como un aparecido literario entre platillos completos (novelas largas o complejas).

Kon asks out Iida on a whim after betting his friends that Iida is gay, but what he doesn't expect is to become interested in the popular boy who all the girls love. It's cute, if not super deep, and I did appreciate the conflict that Iida has to deal with in terms of his coming out.

Té moments força surrealistes, però m'encanta veure com gràcies a l'altre són capaços d'entendre i acceptar la seva sexualitat ♥
