Christmas with the Captain

Rate this book
He’s a lonely captain. She’s wary of love. Can a Christmas miracle bring them together?

Welcome to The Cove

With heavy iron gates, two security stations, and a groundskeeper's cottage, The Cove has everything a billionaire could ask for in a home. Dubbed Billionaire Bachelor Cove because of the resident's single status and income portfolios, The Cove is the perfect place to hide away from the world. But, as the residents soon find out, they can't hide from love.

Christmas with the Captain

Emmett Rockwell is the founder of Omni Tech. At age thirty-one he’s acquired the ultimate American dream of unlimited wealth and time. There’s just one problem—he doesn’t have anyone to share it with. The women he’s dated have all had dollar signs in their eyes, and Emmett is tired of playing that game. He’s ready to become a confirmed bachelor when he meets Grace, the caterer hired for the upcoming Christmas party on his yacht. Grace is a breath of fresh air, treating him like a regular person, and Emmett isn’t about to ruin that by confessing his true identity. He tells her a half-truth: that he is captain of the yacht.

Grace Palmer never knew how satisfying it would be to start her own catering company. With her sister as her business partner, she spends all day doing what she loves—cooking and baking up new recipes to her heart’s content. Coming off of a bad relationship, Grace isn’t looking for romance, but when Emmett walks through her door, her heart has other ideas. Convinced he’s a playboy captain, she pushes him away, but his charm and persistence break through her defenses.

As the night of the Christmas party draws closer, Emmett plans to tell Grace the truth about who he is, but a vengeful ex-girlfriend beats him to it. Will Grace run when she realizes Emmett hasn’t been upfront about his identity, or will love be enough to turn the tide and cross the ocean between their hearts?

3,5⭐ Overall cute story, but I had a problem with how rapidly their feelings developed - after 3 dates and you can't live without this person? Not my type of relationship. But otherwise it was a nice fluff of s romance.

Cozy Christmas Romance

Emmett is a sweet guy who's lonely. Because of his money, he's having a hard time finding a good woman who'll be real with him.

Grace connects with him, not knowing who he is, and Emmett is delighted so he keeps his identity secret while seeing where things go - problem is she's recovering from a guy who manipulated her abusively, and now she suffers from trust issues as well as fragile self esteem.

Normally in stories of this trope, I tend to get annoyed with the hero for keeping it secret longer than is reasonable. I did a bit with this one, but the more I think about it, Grace was already insecure and mistrusting of Emmett's interest as a captain, and clearly very intimidated by her billionaire client. I think Emmett would probably have lost her if he hadn't established a solid relationship with her first.

As it is, everything works out for a very happy happily-ever-after

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses

Sweet

This is such a sweet Christmas love story. Grace is a busy caterer getting ready to cater the biggest party of her career when the party's captain walks through her shop doors to taste test the food. Although Emmett Rockwell is a billionaire,he longs to be treated like just a regular guy. When he goes to taste the food for his upcoming Christmas yacht party, he seizes the opportunity to be a regular guy for once. Things start to get a little out of hand when his "regular guy" charade starts to turn into real feelings for the talented and kind Grace.
This is a great Christmas story about love, forgiveness, generosity, and honesty. I thought the message of helping others was awesome too.

Quick sweet read

A millionaire bored with his life and tired of people who see him as a checkbook meets someone who doesn't know he is wealthy. He doesn't want to tell her who he really is because it might change how she treats him. Will it end up being the biggest mistake unas ever made? I enjoyed finding out.

Narc effects

A lot of stories these days show the effects narc's have on their victims way after that relationship has ended. This story does that too, as well as showing how important it is for people to be valued for themselves! An enjoyable read.

This book was good. Not great. This one for me was a little preachy with not much story added in. I felt myself saying, “yes yes I get that it’s good to be charitable and serve others blah”! Still a good clean book. I just needed more of a story I guess.
