A revenge-driven killer is taking out city council members one-by-one… Can Philadelphia Homicide Detective Kyle Simmons catch the killer in time despite the lack of public support for catching a killer wiping out politicians? Can Simmons get the help he needs from other police officers despite the recent police force layoffs and being despised by some because he was hand-picked by the mayor to solve the case?

*** This is a 63K length novel. It follows "Before The Clock Strikes" but can be read out of order. ***

I finished it, but it took me 2 weeks. Book 1 in this series was pretty good. I liked the mystery. This one bored me to absolute tears. Anything about politicians or politics makes me want to throw shit. We have enough of that bullshit in real life that reading about fictional shitty politicians is just to much. I know this is a "me" problem and that's why I still want to read the rest of the series.

I love crime novels and I always feel so excited when I discover authors such talented as E.G.Michaels and new books as well written as ‘The Countdown’.
The story is told by two points of view: the villain’s and the main hero’s one. The villain is ‘The Sandman’ and he is the one the book begins with. Detective Kyle Simmons is the main lead, a guy every female reader will fall for.
I loved author’s E.G.Michaels writing style. It flows smoothly, the descriptions of people and places are vivid, and it makes you turn the pages in anxiety to find what’s next. I liked the way the author blends politics, corruption and mystery. It’s a deadly game of cat and mouse and an entire city council is on target.
I absolutely adored the moment ‘The Sandman’ and Detective Simmons crossed paths in a coffee bistro in the middle of the book. I’m not giving away what happens next but I do recommend this book to anyone who likes good crime stories. This a read that you won’t put down.

Good story, good realistic dialogue

It's rare that a writer can create dialogue that sounds conversational and natural between characters, and not have it sound like a stilted, contrived exposition to progress a storyline. Kudos! Would recommend.

Good read!

Decent story, good characters, nice flow to the story. Didn’t figure out exactly how the finish would play out but knew who would be in the final “scene”. I read for entertainment and this book delivered.

A well written police thriller guaranteed to please

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Countdown and highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading great police procedurals. It is a high octane thrill ride with great characters and tons of edge of your seat action

Fast and entertaining, however it was a tired plot line with a lack of surprises. Much like TV or the movies our lead character is a skilled detective with little regard for the politics and rules.

Fantastic Book.

This is the second book I've read from this author and what an amazing story line. Very interesting and most believable. E. G. Michael's has a way of putting you right there in the action. There is nothing here that's over the top story, just fast paced story line that could show up on tv any day
I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys police/ mystery stories. Great job.
Thank you for a great book and now I'm off to read the third book in this series. Looking forward to reading addition books by E. G. Michael's.

Review of "The Countdown"

Another good fast read. Cop procedures are pretty authentic but I didn't enjoy how our hero let his hot latina girlfriend push him around.
