⤐ Overall.
By all means, this was an okay read. It wasn't terrible or super boring or maddeningly disgusting. It was okay, but nothing more. I didn't really feel the plot - not at any point through the read, which makes it really hard for me to come up with good things to say although I feel like I should. The plot feels opaque and lacks a certain grip for me to be swapped away by a romance story. I was missing the usual suspense and excitement I'd expect from love stories that start out like they do in Honeymoon Alone; with a brave heroine taking a leap of faith.
However, the writing style is magnificent, I consciously noted many stylistic elements that show, at least semantically, Nicole knows her trade. It made the reading enjoyable even if the stories wasn't that great.
⤐ What’s happening.
The only problem is: Lucy isn't known to take risks - she likes her life orderly and quiet. A fortune teller gives her the incentive to be more spontaneous about her life and Lucy thus takes off on a spontaneous honeymoon - the backup plan her sister and brother and law forgot to cancel.

This book is for you if… Actually, If somebody asked for a recommendation in the Romance section, this wouldn’t be the one I'd go for - ever. Not even if my options were limited to my NetGalley reads.

After meeting with a psychic at her sister’s wedding, Lucy decides she is tired of her predictable life and needs to let fate take the wheel. She spontaneously takes off to London on her sister’s unused, extra honeymoon, but it doesn’t quite turn out to be the carefree trip she was hoping for. As any good romantic comedy, it has some predictable moments, but also a few surprises mixed in. Lucy’s adventurous spirit and her quirky family made the characters relate-able. It was a light-hearted, easy read for travelers and homebodies alike.

Honeymoon Alone by Nicole Macaulay is the perfect escapist read for another monotonous day of sheltering in place. I devoured this one over the course of a few hours, so light and breezy was the author's conversational narrative. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a joyful, uplifting read.
Lucy Gray has never strayed far from her comfort zone, content in the bosom of her large and involved family. But when her sister books two honeymoons rather than one out of an abundance of preparedness, Lucy cannot resist the opportunity to take the new bride's place on the unused honeymoon to London. For Lucy, the journey represents more than a trip across the Atlantic. It is an awakening to the need to pursue a more fully actualized and fulfilling life.
This is a sweet, feel-good read that will have you rooting for Lucy every step of the way. 4.5 stars

An exceedingly fun, light, engaging read. Nicole Macaulay, the author, has an ease to their writing that hooks you from the very start. This book was very reminiscent of Mary H.K. Choi or Helen Hoang's writing. Refreshingly witty, and full of easy drama and laugh out loud moments, this book was the perfect fluff to distract from life's seemingly constant stressors.
I highly recommend this book if what you're looking for is a delightfully charming read.

Lucy Gray is a bit of a pushover and always the reliable one. She's never done anything spontaneous; so when a psychic at her sister's wedding told her to stop ignoring fate's signs, those signs seem to point her to London. Once in London, she goes on a bit of adventure with some love and trouble along the way.
Warning - this book will make you want to book a trip to Europe - specifically London and Paris. And that's not such a bad thing! It's well written with great character development and chemistry between the characters. It's a beautiful tale about stepping out of your comfort zone and finding your independence.

This was a cute book, it reminded me a lot of the book The Unhoneymooners. The characters were great and the story was wonderful but there were a few things missing for me. I wanted more build up between Lucy and Oliver, while you got the hint something was there I just wish there had been more. I also wish the ended had an epilogue into their lives after, I would have loved a catch-up. But I enjoyed the quirkiness and the banter but would have loved more steam, given the fact that our main character is supposed to be married I get why there wasn’t however. All in all I enjoyed this book, it was a great read and a cute romance.

When you live your whole life (so far) in a sheltered fashion, there might come a time when you do something crazy...like take your sister's discarded honeymoon and break free from the parental chains. Ok, maybe you do some of this on a whim thanks to the advice of a psychic at your sister's wedding, but something has to spur you into action!
I applauded Lucy for her decision to escape her home when a hotel in London calls to confirm her sister's reservation. A reservation that wasn't going to be used because her OCD sister booked two honeymoon options. Two! But what better time to put that passport to use than a Christmas getaway. Her friend Mary encourages her to go and even contacts a classmate of theirs to meet her at the airport and be a point of contact. It works out to both of their advantages since the hotel is for honeymooners only (and there is no Mr. with Lucy) and Cary's roommates turn out to be his worst nightmare.
I applaud Lucy's gumption to take herself on a tour of London and see the usual touristy sites plus so much more. She has been held back thanks to an overbearing mother and older brother. In fact, when she manages to "lose" her phone and disconnects from those ties is when she really blossoms. We are able to peek into the frantic thoughts of her family through blog entries. Apparently, the whole family can blog to let others know what is happening. I suppose that is easier than making a bunch of phone calls.
Lucy manages to keep Oliver, the nosy concierge, at bay regarding her "husband" and why she is doing so much on her own. But is he more than nosy? Could he be smitten with Lucy? Or is there something more "sinister" at play? The only way to find out is to read the book.
This book had me laughing at many turns and I had a hard time putting the book down. I wanted to know what secret Oliver was hiding, who the Honeymooners were, and would Lucy's family learn to take a step back and let her live her life. There are a few heart-stopping moments near the end but nothing too scary. The story is also about finding your own path and looking out for yourself because your family may not know what is best for you despite their best intentions.
As a child of the 80s, I had to share this line with you...I didn't mark more for some reason, I think I was enjoying the book too much.
"I'm an 80s themed mess. My hair is crimped. Crimped. I look like a bottle of grape soda in my purple, polka-dotted dress complete with shoulder pads."
We give this book 5 paws up.

I liked this book, probably because I've always wondered what it would be like to travel to another country by myself. I thought it was mostly creative and a fun read. The characters were interesting and I enjoyed the opportunity to armchair travel!

Sometimes all you need is a cute story. Honeymoon Alone is exactly that.
But I must say, I am quite surprised by how it turned out. I was expecting just a subtle romance story, and I got so much more than that. This book has so much more to it than meets the eye. Of course, we can't talk about those things without spoilers, so that is all I have to say about that.
One thing I noticed right away is how invested I was with the story. I had only read a few chapters and I already was rooting for our main character, Lucy. She truly steps out of her comfort zone and takes a chance, and that is something to be admired.
There are many plot points in this book, which makes it pretty easy to read quickly. I read this book in less than a day. The romance was super cute, especially since there was no insta-love... woohoo! A+ in my book.
Overall, there is a lot to enjoy in this novel. It is one of those stories that just makes you feel good after reading.

This book was such a delight to read. Very light and fun chick-lit. I loved the descriptions of Lucy's trip to London, the dialogues were great and I found myself laughing several times. Highly recommend to fans of the genre.

Lucy Gray comes from a big family and does exactly what she should do- all the time. She plans her sister Marian’s wedding- even when she had a wedding planner. And made two reservations of all the wedding plans so Marian could make last minute decisions. So when Marian forgets to cancel honeymoon #2 in London, Lucy decides its a sign for a change.
What Lucy doesn’t anticipate is the hunk that meets her at the airport or the hunk at the hotel. Or that the hotel is specifically reserved for couples only....

This book was such a light and fun read that made me smile lots of time and was so easy to get into that I didn't even think about the rating. I don't know for sure that it would be one of my favourites, but I definitely ended up loving it way more than I thought I would when I started reading it.
At first, I wasn't that into it. It seemed kinda weird how from one sentence to the next a good chunk of time had gone by without any precision, you had to guess it from the context. I also wasn't really engrossed by the story, I don't know why because I don't think it was too much description, but maybe too much context? Not sure about that.
What matters, though, is how that feeling soon faded to leave me just so hooked up to that book that I read it all in one go and am now hungry because I skipped dinner. I really loved Lucy, and seeing her life and adventure through her very optimistic eyes was just amazing. I feel the itch to travel now, and I've always worried about doing that alone but she made me realize that there are a lot of good that can come out of it too, and that maybe I should just stop waiting and take a chance myself to visit the countries I've always wanted to see but have been too afraid to go to on my own. This book is a romance, yes, but kinda a slow-burn one and one that is not the center of the book. It's more about self-discovery than anything else and that made it all the best to read.

Lucy’s journey takes the reader through the streets of London and Paris and even lands her in hot water with the police. An adorable and lighthearted adventure about independence and self-discovery.

Predictable Lucy is just that... predictable. But when the date she brought to her sister’s wedding publicly ends up with someone else there, Lucy finds herself in the psychic's tent as a means of escaping. The psychic tells her to stop avoiding the signs of fate, and wedding psychics are absolutely reliable, right? Wrong. Lucy decides that while she's ignoring fate, she'll also ignore the psychic. Watering plants at her sister's house one day, Lucy discovers that her sister, who booked two honeymoons because she couldn't decide which one she wanted to go on, never cancelled the second option to London. Is this the sign the psychic was talking about? Lucy decides that it is, and so begins her whirlwind adventure in London, her honeymoon alone. This was absolutely adorable & absolutely fun! The writing was incredibly real & I laughed out loud at multiple parts. This book is everything you want in a romcom. Thank you to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my review copy.

Engaging and entertaining with a lovable main character, Lucy, Honeymoon Alone is a romantic comedy with heart. When a psychic at her sister’s wedding advises 26-year-old Lucy to look for the signs, Lucy opens herself up to see what the universe has to offer and takes a leap of faith. First step—using her sister’s backup honeymoon reservation in London (that her sister had neglected to cancel). Trying on her sister’s persona proved to be an ill-fit of lies and miscommunications. But Lucy bravely embraces the journey, proud of the first-time ever stamp in her passport and filled with the wonder of discovering the rest of the world, while discovering herself. Lovely settings in London and Paris, complete with a mysterious rough and tumble mystery man, a handsome hunk from her past, and an international crime spree, make this a fun read. Lucy and her charming smile-filled optimism lead to a very satisfying happily-every-after--à la a Jill Mansell story!

A fun, giggle-out-loud, cheesy, whirlwind adventure and romance all packed into one adorably-covered book. What more could you ask for?
Honeymoon Alone follows Lucy, a play-it-safe third grade teacher who never does anything outside of her comfort zone. When a psychic at her sisters wedding tells her that’s she’s just waiting for her life to begin (and that it’s going to happen soon), Lucy takes it as a sign when her sisters backup honeymoon to London wasn’t cancelled (oops). Lucy decides to “start her life”, and spontaneously hops on a plane to London for vacation. Enter a couple handsome men, some crazy fun adventures, and quite a few little white lies (She IS posing as her sister on her honeymoon, after all).
This was such a cute book. Is it cheesy? Oh yes. Could I see the romance happening from a mile away? Duh. But that’s the point and I love this book for it. This book epitomizes modern rom coms, and I was mentally casting who would play the characters in the movie that should be made from this (Amy Adams for Lucy!!!). Perfect when paired with more Ben and Jerry’s ice cream (Phish food this time), comfy pjs, and an ABBA dance party. 4 ⭐️

This quirky & lighthearted rom-com was the perfect quick read I didn’t know I needed! While at her sister’s 80’s themed wedding, 26 year old Lucy Gray is told by a psychic that her life will start when she starts following fate’s signs. With that seed planted, an opportunity comes up & Lucy spontaneously goes to London over Christmas break. Once she decides to fully embrace London Lucy, adventure & hijinks ensue! There are plenty of eye rolling & laugh out loud moments during Lucy’s journey of self-discovery & love. I appreciated Lucy wholeheartedly experiencing & enjoying her once in a lifetime trip. Makes me nostalgic for my trips to London & Paris! Thank you NetGalley & Nicole Macaulay for the opportunity!

This was a light and fun read, and the author really made the main character come alive. Although I did get a bit fed up with her absolute naiveté and general cluelessness, her overall sweetness of character made up for it. I loved the way the family relationships were brought into the story as well. The build-up to the crime caper she got involved in, and its denouement, were very foreseeable, but this did not detract from my enjoyment in the least. I look forward to reading more from this author.

What a delightful romantic comedy. Lucy’s fake date dumps her at her sister’s wedding, so she decides to go to London on her sister’s second honeymoon that her sister neglected to cancel. This book offers romance, mystery and some hilarious characters to boot. This was a wonderful laugh out loud adventure, and I recommend it to all romantic comedy lovers. What I loved most about this book is that I couldn’t put it down! It wasn’t predictable in the way that many books are- I was genuinely interested to see what Lucy was planning to do next.
The writing in this book is not only witty but also very descriptive and I was able to really find myself understanding/feeling like I knew Lucy Gray.

I flew through this one, it was light and full of fluff. I really like its plot even though it was predictable. I loved Cary and Lucy's friendship. Oliver's character had more potential though, I just didn't get enough of him.

To describe this book easily, I'd definitely call it "chick-lit." It was easy paced, funny, still cheesy, kinda predictable and all the things you'd expect in a Hallmark movie ....with a few twists at the end that leave you with a not so hallmarky feeling after all.

Lucy Grey is a 26-year-old that has never had a spontaneous moment in her life. She is a third-year teacher with a safe routine and is a consistent planner. While attending her sister's wedding, a psychic tells her to seize life. So when her sister rejects her backup honeymoon destination, Lucy seizes the opportunity. In London, Lucy finally lives life instead of being a bystander. Pushing aside her comfort zone, she becomes a new person and finally discovers herself.
Straight away, I loved Lucy's character because she is so relatable and realistic. Her traits and quirky habits bring her to life, and you find yourself appreciating everyday things through her eyes. Her character has good development because she grew as a person through her mistakes and spontaneity.
The idea of embracing life and really experiencing it is something everyone should do, and this book shows that great things can happen if you take a chance. The notion that you have to search for what you want and grasp it is an idea that we can apply to our lives. The way the author has layered this into the book makes the story so fun because it's something that we naturally want to do.
I thought the plot was fun, and the pace of the book flowed well. The humor implemented in the book kept the story lighthearted, and the subplots added just the right amount of drama.

I’m delighted to say that this was an easy read, the story was warm and light (it gave you all of those wintery feels like a walk through Winter Wonderland) in addition to it being poignantly funny and sweet thanks to Macaulay’s writing style and likable characters.

This book is an equivalent to warm hot cocoa and fluffy wool blankets. The story is well written and it puts a smile on your face. I liked the twist with how things went with Cary and Lucy, it’s not your classic “pretend to be in love than actually fall in love” trope. However at some parts of the story I did feel some transitions or events were rushed.
I loved the characters, they were really great and you can tell that even though they fall in the “Hallmark” catalogue of characters, each had a distinct personality and I really got invested on how their endings were going to be. I think Macaulay does a great job of making you care about them and laugh with them and celebrate with them. I loved the banter between Lucy and Oliver. Throughout, the book had a lively sense of humour and Lucy reminded me so much of Emilia Clark. I literally cannot picture anyone else. I could see this book being made into a major film that could potentially be a “winter romance” classic.
Yeah it’s cheesy, utterly romantic, and a chick flick through and through but I just can’t get enough!
Do I recommend? Yes if you’re into all things sweet and sugar.

A very cute read, the story is light and fun. I enjoyed the banter between Lucy and Oliver. However, I think the story didn't reach its full potential. I would have loved to see more build up between them. I did start to see the spark between them, but I think it needed a little bit more of development. Also, maybe some more steam. While it was cute, it lacked the passion one would expect from a kind of enemies to lovers or maybe forbidden love (given that she's supposed to be married) story.
Also, Lucy's family annoyed the crap out of me. What is with all that overprotective shit? They treated her like a little child when she's a grown adult and that infuriated me. Cary's attitude was also really not nice to Lucy, even if she sees it that way. He was rude and an asshole at times, and his personal issues don't justify that.
Finally, the ending was just kind of off. I saw it coming for a while, but I think the book didn't need that kind of plot line, or maybe I just was expecting something different, something that wouldn't seem straight of a Sunday afternoon comedy movie.

Me ha faltado más desarrollo en su relación. Sí que he visto el comienzo de una chispa entre ellos, pero me han faltado escenas, me ha faltado sensación de romance y me ha faltado la pasión que esperaba de una situación que tiene toques de enemies to lovers o de amor prohibido (ya que ella finge estar casada con otro para quedarse en un hotel que es solo para parejas en su luna de miel).
Por otro lado, la familia de Lucy me ha desquiciado. Son sobreprotectores hasta rozar lo ridículo, y la tratan como a una niña pequeña, cuando es una adulta hecha y derecha. Normal que la pobre quisiera escaparse y tener una aventura, con semejante familia controladora.
En lo que respecta a Cary, su marido de pega... Aparte de que por el nombre me lo imaginaba todo el rato como Cary Elwes, se comporta en varias ocasiones como una capullo egoísta, no como un amigo de verdad, diga lo que diga Lucy, y sus problemas personales no justifican eso.
En cuanto al giro final en la trama, bueno... Me lo veía venir desde hacía un rato, pero me ha sobrado totalmente. Hubiera preferido que la historia se centrara en un buen romance y que no diera ese giro de comedia dudosa de domingo por la tarde.
Algo que sí me ha gustado bastante ha sido la ambientación. Leer sobre Lucy haciendo turismo e investigando Londres por su cuenta me ha recordado mucho a mi propio Erasmus en Londres y me he puesto algo nostálgica.

Predictably, there is confusion and chaos. I had picked up this book hoping it would be a light read, after the non-fiction book I had just finished reading and I was quite pleased with the choice. This romance book had several LOL moments, as when Lucy checks into the hotel. I also loved the idea of a blog for the family.
It’s hard to tell what book this year is set in, but I liked the lead character’s fondness for the ‘80s. It was such a great decade.
I liked Lucy. She has a pleasant, fun style that makes me think she’d be a hoot to hang out with. London, through her eyes, isn’t bad either. I liked her way with words and her sense of humour, and the fact that she is independent and doesn’t need a man by her side, either in London or in Paris. The vacation helps her discover herself.
This was a good, fun romance with just the right touch of mystery. I enjoyed this one.

Honeymoon Alone was a fun blend of travel, self-discover, and romance all in one novel! The story follows Lucy, who finds herself at a crossroads in life. She's tired of doing what's expected of her and wants to do something spontaneous. Hence, the trip to the London. Readers are taken on a journey through the city's sights and sounds as we experience everything through Lucy's eyes. Through her adventure she grows, learns about herself, and even has the possibility to find a bit of romance.
What made this novel such an entertaining read was the sense of adventure and the romantic comedy elements. Lucy, more often than not, finds herself in some tricky situations. Someway or somehow, she is determined to muddle through them the best she can. She pushes herself to get out of her comfort zone and live in the moment. I appreciated the attention to detail and through reading this book I felt as if I took a trip to London myself! If you're looking for a fun, light-hearted romance, this is a novel for you!

After the psychic at her sister’s wedding tells Lucy that she needs to wake up and see the signs in front of her and live her life, she starts to look for said signs. While watering her sister’s plants the biggest sign falls into her lap. The hotel in London that was supposed to be the back up honeymoon calls to confirm her sisters booking. Thinking why the hell not, Lucy decideds to go in her place, after all who could it hurt, her sister was on a cruise with her new husband and its not like she was not going to pay for it herself.

Once in London Lucy runs into her school friend, Cary who is there for acting classes. Things start to get interesting when Lucy realises the hotel where her sister had booked was actually a honeymooners only place. Deciding to see for how long she could fly under the radar without anyone noticing she was minus one husband, things soon begin to go south when Oliver the very nosey concierge keeps asking Lucy about her husband. Cary seeing an opportunity to improve his acting skills, offers to pretend to be her husband to get Oliver of her back and so that he can get out of the dodgy hostel. Still unable to shake Oliver, Lucy decides to just roll with it, after all he did make a good free tour guide.

I loved Lucy, it took a lot for her to step out of her comfort zone and do something for herself. More over I loved that this booked showed that as a woman, she could still have just as much fun on her own. In saying that I did love how pesky Oliver was, popping up everywhere. All in all I enjoyed that Honeymoon Alone centered around Lucy and Oliver and Cary were just supporting characters. Even with the overbearing nature of her family I loved how their relationship grow.

This book was such a light and fun read that made me smile lots of time and I am telling you right now, I will be picking it up again someday when I am feeling down. This wasn't a great book, it had flaws and everything but this was definitely what I would call a cute read.

I linked with the character of Lucy, cause I am that girl who wishes to travel the world see the northern lights, shout in Alps mountains, swing in Bali and that too alone. But I am always scared that might not be able to do these things, so seeing her life and adventure through her very optimistic eyes was just amazing. I feel the itch to travel now, pack my bags and just go.

I loved Oliver's character, I thought he was hiding something but for the life of me, I couldn't have guessed what was he hiding. Additionally, I didn't much like Cory's character which also evidently had a complete u-turn around the end of the book. I liked how Lucy's family is caring and bordering on the over-protective. (Just like my Indian Family, imagine me telling them I having a trip all over the world by myself, they probably will have a heart attack.)

This is a book about a young teacher named Lucy. Unlucky in love, having a date go wrong at her sister's wedding, Lucy decides to pay a visit to the wedding's psychic, in hope for some direction. The psychic tells Lucy she needs to trust in fate, and that fate will lead to love. Unexpectedly, Lucy finds herself able to travel to London for Christmas break, on a honeymoon that she is taking alone. Upon arriving, she ends up in a web of lies, along the way meeting interesting people, discovering the city and discovering herself.
I absolutely loved this book. It had me from the first couple of pages, it was hard to put down. The characters were awesome. I related to Lucy in so many ways, from being a teacher, to having an overprotective family and being nervous to take chances. She was so relatable, sweet, funny and just fun to read. I loved her take on everything, her inner monologue and her realism. The other characters were developed enough, I loved each side story. The descriptions of the setting were magical. The story unfolded in a way that left me surprised! But I enjoyed every minute, and I loved how everything came together at the end. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to find out what happens after the ending, I just wanted to know more! I can't wait to read more from this author!

I absolutely loved this book. It had me from the first couple of pages, it was hard to put down. The characters were awesome. I related to Lucy in so many ways, from being a teacher, to having an overprotective family and being nervous to take chances. She was so relatable, sweet, funny and just fun to read. I loved her take on everything, her inner monologue and her realism. The other characters were developed enough, I loved each side story. The descriptions of the setting were magical. The story unfolded in a way that left me surprised! But I enjoyed every minute, and I loved how everything came together at the end.
