With this stunningly photographed greenery-guide, anyone can master the art of making your living room thrive. When done correctly, curating any decent houseplant can be just as effective as hanging a beautiful work of art. After all, our green companions are known to be beneficial for mental health, for general health (being oxygenators) as well as being a key element of any well-balanced interior fit out. Lauren and Sophia run the wildly successful nursery and interior design store Leaf Supply, in Sydney, Australia. They wrote a beautifully designed book, by the same name, in 2018. Now, with Indoor Jungle, they explain (in laypersons’ terms) how to best transform your house into a veritable greenhouse. In this sequel-of-sorts, Lauren and Sophia cast their plant-loving net far wider than simply fabulous Australian interiors, featuring jungle-y architecture from around the world! For each spread of beautifully verdant interiors, the duo breaks down how the foliage within is surviving (and thriving). Ablaze with jaw dropping photography, Indoor Jungle will deserve its own prominent place in your new, improved and jungle-ified living room.
A visually stunning book that unfortunately only has basic information that most novice plant owners would already know. I hoped it would contain more in depth/practical plant knowledge due to the size of the book.
The whole second half of the book (like 150 pages worth) is interviews with people who have indoor gardens, and it starts to get a bit repetitive after a while.
If you are just looking for a beautifully presented book with basic info and plant styling inspiration then this could be the book for you.
As an avid lover/ caregiver of many houseplants, I used this more as an art book or interior design look book rather than a how to guide. I found the design of many of the interiors quite lovely (although I was side eyeing some of those stringy vining plants). It’s always fun to identify a plant that you own (or reeeeaally want).
Despite having read Plantopedia by the same authors and feeling rather indifferent to it, I checked out Indoor Jungle after seeing many recommendations for it. Unsurprisingly I had about the same reaction. The first part of the book contains very basic plant information, and it would be good for beginners. For me, the last part of the book was more interesting with people like Jamie Song showing off their plant-filled spaces. The photography is beautiful.
I'm a total plant novice with a devastatingly black thumb, and this book was such a great way to immerse myself into the very overwhelming world of plant care. It is so fun to read and flip through and is very inspirational.
